You can reasonably expect one gold mat per 200 refined pieces of material, a little better now with the CP passives. OP was at 1 per 189 and 184 respectively for Jewelry and Blacksmith, so about what you can expect for any of the main crafting mats.

This is how I always guestimate that I got a good yield from mats, 1 gold per 200, but it fluctuates, sometimes I get no gold from the 200, sometimes I get 3

1 mat has a 0.5-0.6% chance of becoming a gold quality mat some day.

it takes 10 mats to refine.
10* a range of 0.5%-0.6% = 5-6% chance per refine for gold mat.
which is somewhere around a around a 1/20-1/16 chance per refine to get a gold mat or 1 in 20 to 1 in 16.

    1 in 180 per mat
    or
    1 in 18 per refine ,
    or
5.5% chance per refine probably a good middle-ground.

5.625% per refine (of 10). 5% base, 1.125x multiplier from Meticulous Disassembly if you're at 3/3 in your deconstruction passives for that skill line.

Is it wrong that my first thought on seeing those numbers (as a guy who spent his time almost exclusively harvesting for 6+ hours a day over 3 of the days) was "How many bots did that take"?

I pulled close to 15000 platinum dust on a full crafter build (Plentiful Harvest maxed, Master Gatherer maxed ((so I was efficient too)) and using every survey I had) and I would say that was an impressive number. This just seems...outlandish is the word I guess?

I dunno, maybe this is normal and I'm just cynical.

EDIT: Is it possible those numbers are conflated with the High Isle event as well? I was getting ridiculous High Isle pulls, but the normal double pulls from the Explorer's Celebration were nowhere near as eye popping. I was pulling upwards of 40 dust per node during High Isle on a regular node. (Surveys aren't doubled by anything other than Plentiful). I could see hitting 50K that way, but not in 6 days on a standard double where you would be getting 6 to 8 per node base with doubling around 20 or so.

But if those are your numbers, more power to ya I guess.

Was that on a speedy build? Maybe the OP had a speedy build, a good route, and they did say they farmed throughout the 6 days. Having said that, kudos to both for those numbers, I farmed a grand total of 30 minutes during the event, so I only got a couple hundred of each mat

Yeah, I was on a close to speed cap NB so full stealth to avoid encounters with major and minor expedition and the steed stone in 7 piece medium divines with swift rings. I don't mess around on my crafter lol. One day I'll change them to Orc to hit the cap all the way, but I'm fine at my 160% or so.

Warden or sorc with clannfear are better farmers than nightblade in my estimation. Add a dash of vampirism in with some sneak CP and maybe a sneak set and a companion and you're zooming, your pet/companion takes aggro while you farm everything. If you happen to get hit, just sprint to the next node and aggro will reset quickly.

I can't stress enough how good pets are for node farming.

I hate pets for farming. I just run up on the node, take it and stealth away if I pull aggro. It takes less time for me to pull the node than it does for the mob to react in the first place. Why fight when I don't have to, even for a second? I ignore the speed loss to sneak with my build, so why would I wait?

You don't have to fight, that's the thing. A mob or group of mobs running toward you will instead aggro the pet or companion, this allows you to get nodes that they are directly ontop of without needing to kill them, which is especially useful for nodes on elite mobs or nodes around world bosses.

I will say, however, that for normal mobs it's sometimes quicker and worthwhile just to clear it with a semi-dps build if you do get hit, depending on how many nodes you'll get out of it.

That's fair, I tend to avoid those nodes on my regular runs. If I need to grab them for whatever reason I just pull out Isobel and let her tank the mob while I do my thing. I just like Nightblades more for their stealth I suppose.

I will say a pet sorc is fun in BG's though.

Yeah, if you only do 200 at a time, it will feel very hit and miss. Not a big enough sample size. I refine mats once I hit 10k, and I am almost always a bit north of 55 or so, which makes sense based on Tmbrink's math, which I am certain is acurate.

I use cp bonuses (30), ring of the wild hunt (45), 1 swift ring (7), 1 swift necklace (7) on nb with concealed weapon (15). It's fast as ****.com

Have you actually done the math? Out of combat, you are almost certainly over the cap with that setup assuming vamp and ignoring sneak penalty. Not sure what else you might have going on there in addition, but you are at 204. Sprinting out of combat, you are way over.

Nothing wrong with building a little over cap, you wont always be in combat and you wont always be sneaking, but something to think about.

Concealed is now a permanent slotted buff. You don't have to sneak and no it is not a vamp build.

That’s a lot of gold I bet. Congrats!!
