Companion Behavior Options

I'm sure a lot of you really enjoy going after a world boss with your trusty ranged companion only to have them pull aggro and roll backwards farther and farther until the boss resets. Yeah, I love that too... not really.

Would be nice to see some options where you can set them to roll through or roll toward their controlling player.
Being able to set follow distance, etc.

Why not just slot a taunt so the boss focuses on you? I don't see why you would expect a ranged companion to fare well when it draws a world bosses attention.

If I take a companion to fight a world boss I have them set up as a tank, no issue with them resetting the boss during the fight that way.

Because I don't have room for a taunt on my bar.

If you give your ranged companion an ice staff, they will block and interrupt when under attack but won't dodge-roll.

I've given Isobel an Ice Staff but no ability with a taunt. (I do intend to try her as tank at some point.) Ranged and not running away with the boss.

To be fair, they all do that. My favourite is Mirri going "I'm still here, thanks for...." as she dies from delivering her quip from inside a raging inferno. That grind to level 20 was quite the challenge. Seems to happen more at range for me for some reason - they do that side-step thing but step directly into aoes leading to rapid face plants.

The taunt that has been suggested is probably the better solution. Dodge rolling away is a good design since programming the AI to pull information from the server about the defined area of a boss then determining the best direction for the companion to roll is probably a little to much.

Anyone else having trouble with their companions putting their weapons away in the middle of battle? Yesterday Isobel and I were doing a volcanic vent and she started just walking around casually. She even said her line about getting some celebratory sweets. She only started fighting again when I attacked a big boss.

Yes, I've seen this as an ongoing problem since well before High Isles. Seems fairly random though.

This happened only when the companion was ranged. I switched Bastian to a tank a while back and the biggest issue I have with him now is his rather premature use of his ultimate, in all circumstances, ie as a skeever dies at my feet while I'm farming.

I've seen Bastian block, interrupt, and roll dodge. We've done plenty of dungeons together and he's handled it all (cept for the ultimate bit) very well :)

This one finds equipping Isobel with sword and shield and full heavy armour (with reduce damage or bolster health) to be quite effective as tank. She uses provoke for taunt, and the final skill, on guard, is good for blocking and shielding. Combine this with her Templar healing skills, she is quite unkillable.

Re companions standing around lollygagging: they are just taking a break :D

this might make certain dungeons where you have to stand on pressure plates doable for solo players!

I would like to see a restriction put on companions (maybe something that could be toggled) where they remain within 12 meters of your character at all times. If they roll outside of 12 meters they would return to within 12 meters almost immediately.
Needing to slot a specific weapon on a companion so they do not reset the final bosses in Crypt of Hearts isn't a very good solution. Doesn't take much for that fight to reset. One boss chases your companion just outside the arch and you are starting over.
Also a pain when trying to gather mobs but the companion runs/dodges across the room with several of what you were trying to stack. Twelve meters wouldn't be near as bad as half way across the zone.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

I have noticed at vents if you are attacking the slow moving atros that go to the smaller vents, you have to HEAVY attack to get your pets/companions to attack them.

Maybe companions could be programmed to dodge roll back only twice then dodge roll to the side after. Or back, then side, then back, then side. The boss reset issue is really frustrating, though I don't have that problem as much with companions in all heavy.

They really should set it so they don't roll in the same direction twice. I would prefer if they went in a square so they don't also pull stuff out of my Ults.

Companions should only be able to draw aggro if they have a taunt skill slotted, otherwise they should never draw aggro. This is currently one of the biggest issues with companions. In practically every meaningful battle, they die in two seconds because of this(excluding tank spec companions).

Should have been fixed right after they were released.

Mirri, roll, roll if you can,
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It would be amusing to have two companions at once, so they can shout “advice” to each other :D
