This way to the great egress

PT Barnum had signs up that pointed This way to the Great Egress at his circuses that duped many people into believing there was an attraction there but it was in fact the exit. Upon exiting you had to pay to enter again into the circus.

This event isn't that but the marketing used makes much ado about nothing special.

For example the requirement to have companions enabled to receive companion items. This is always the case. There's also in the advert reports of a guaranteed chance for legendary jewels for companions but again if companions are active, isn't this always the case? Is there anything about the event itself that increases the drop rate? We aren't told that.
And if if the drop rate for high end companion gear was increased, how can i tell? If the chance before the event was double or increased by 100%, that could mean i now have a .010% instead of a .005% chance. That would be doubled or 100% increase but still effectively little to none. SO the advert for the event just restates what is already known to be true for using companions? Pretty much. Having played the event some and having gotten my fill of apirants from the companion quests (greatly needing some anti-aspirant) I see the drops for my companions are about the same or no better at least than before the event and i feel duped into thinking that there might be something more offered in the way of companion gear than is typically available. I can not see that to be the case. There's nothing in my drops for companion gear that seem any different than before and indeed the CP system seems like it might have the solution to getting better companion drops but nothing about the event seems to.

Don't get me wrong, i like the loot boxes and i have most of the steadfast purple armor and weapon style pages for crafting and i like the increased resources. The occasional golden style pages are dropping much less often that the last event but also there's only the one set being offered also. I don't have much use for the golden style pages anyway.. They don't help with writ vouchers and they don't seem to effect my stickerbook for reconstruction so their utility is limited to "oh look how fancy my imaginary character is".

I spent a lot of effort to ensure all 9 toons had both companions for the event. While i didn't fall for the great egress trick, i'm still duped into doing all that effort for essentially no measurable increased drops benefit during the event for companion gear as far as i can tell.

I was going to to write this off as a crackpot rant, but I gave it a second read and yes, your points are valid and based in fact.

Why try to clever it up by heavily interweaving it with a 'smart' niche historical anology? It's highly unlikely the shot callers in this game will ever hear the most clear and succinct feedback like this, but you are also making sure the tl;dr crown are also going to ignore your relatively valid feedback....

A couple of facts that people seem to miss about the event: you are required to have one of.the High Isle companions active to receive drops of companion gear, not Bastian or Miiri, so that requirement is something unusual and needed to be spelled out.

Second, the legendary companion jewels, these only come from the special loot we'll receive if the 100% mark is reached on the Pathfinder acheivement "telethon meter." The steadfast loot boxes, purple or gold, have the same 0% chance to yield legendary companion gear as everything else.

I’m just guessing so I may be wrong, and I’m at work so I can’t look and my memory may be wrong too, but doesn’t it have to be a High Isle companion for it to work? This is different than just having any companion out to have a chance of getting companion gear normally. And maybe the comment about having High Isle companions out is more of a reminder for people who might forget. And doesn’t it mean you have to have the companion out when you open the box (something new and different) as opposed to just having the companion out when defeating foes like normal? I can only imagine what would be said by people who opened all their boxes without their High Isle companion out only to realize later that the companion had to be out AND had to be a High Isle companion in order to possibly get companion gear as a reward from the box. “ZOS should have told us!” would be screamed all over the forums. And I was thinking that we will only get a guaranteed legendary companion gear drop from the nested chest drop that is a reward for the community event, not as a possible drop from any of the event boxes, is that correct? Of course, I assume I won’t get my legendary item in the trait I would like, but that’s another tale! 😂

PS. I do love the PT Barnum story. I’m going to share that one with people 😊

Personally, "guaranteed chance" is what sounds so wrong for me in event loot description. It's either guaranteed or a chance! That phrasing just gives an impression that someone tries too hard to convince us that this isn't a scam.

"But that’s not all! Both the High Isle daily quests and the weekly Dreadsail trial quest offer DOUBLE their regular non-event reward boxes. In addition, during the event period, the zone’s harvest node yields are increased, and world bosses, public dungeon bosses, trial bosses, and delve bosses throughout High Isle ALL drop additional rewards."

Nothing about companion gear drop percentages being increased. You have more chances but at the same drop rate.

Others pointed out specific companions have to be used so that really did need to be mentioned. It isn't like normal.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Reminder that you only need High Isle companions active when opening the event boxes to get companion gear. I didn't like the requirement to have Isobel or Ember out for these drops to occur, so I'm still using Mirri and only bringing one of the two newcomers out when opening the boxes. As I understood it, there's a "guaranteed chance" to get one of the following from the golden boxes: crafting materials, High Isle treasure, High Isle style mats, High Isle overland sets and companion gear. If there's any increased odds of getting companion stuff, then, it's just from the golden boxes.

That's pretty funny. Reminds me of a bit of the lyrics from "Welcome to the circus" by 5FDP. ya know: "welcome to the [snip] show, just another freak show, hang your hat and hate at the door. Its a game of torture, souls are made to order, everything you wanted and more."

If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.
