Do you believe ESO will still improve in 2022?

Absolutely. Can't be all doom & gloom
U36 will be an improvement over U35, if for no other reason than it is not U35. It's already an improvement for that reason alone and there are no other updates left in the year. If the story DLC follows the trend of the last 2 years, then Firesong's story will also be more enjoyable than High Isle's story.

Rotation.... for me, the biggest problem in all game.
Players have to keep eyes in skill bar to mantain damage and forget the game\action is bad. Very bad!
There's 1000000000 other ways to do damage. You don't need Rotation at all in this game.... well... if they change this. lol!

But i agree with you in all other points!
Btw, i broken 5 mouses until i can learn the rotation. in 30 years .... never, but never never never broken one mouse!

I disagree. A rotation doesn't have to be overly complex. It can be as simple as firing 2 buffs and then using your spammable. That doesn't require you to keep your eyes glued to your skill bar. I mean that's pretty close to what it is with oakensoul anyway. I personally love the combat because it is so distinct from other mmos. You can get plenty of damage without 100% or even 50% uptime on most buffs for the majority of content. When your start getting in to vet content, which presumably means you more optimal combat then you spend more time monitoring your skill bar until it becomes muscle memory. I rarely look at my skill bar unless I have a dungeon where the boss has a debuff mechanic and I need to see it on my bar. But that's just me.

The patch with AwA was for me the beginning of the end.
I don't buy crowns and eso+ now. For what? The patches make the game worse and worse and worse!

I could live with questionable combat changes if writing and cosmetics quality were good. They aren't.

    /rant on

I'm waiting for ZOS to get their stuff together since Greymoor and, while this chapter isn't that hopelessly broken (I mean, Greymoor had bugs that 100% warranted release delay, but we don't do that here) I don't see much of improvement.

Updates shouldn't be "oh, I can work around that" or "it's still playable", they should be "yaaaay, exciting new content and changes that make sense".

Every crown store update shouldn't spawn new threads about bugged or poorly made cosmetics.

Bugs shouldn't linger for years while totally harmless things get "fixed".

Quests should be memorable and emotional, they should make us care about characters. They should make us go "oooooh, I did not expect that!".

    It's not the game I fell in love with. It's a cash-grabbing dumbed-down maintenance-mode shade.

I do hope they give Firesong for free, because I want to check one last time whether ZOS still can do good content, but my hope is so faint, I'd like to avoid spending money on that.

    /rant off

    P. S. Am I imagining things or were older dialogues written in slightly more old/fantasy-ish and less your-everyday-modern-English manner?

Shouldn't the title be "Do you believe ESO will still improve in 2023?" because , if I'm not mistaken, there won't be any balancing patches outside of U36 for the rest of the year.

I feel like given by how long balancing changes have happened and still continue to happen, we won't see much of the missed potential (e.g. new weapon types and skill lines) being implemented, which in my opinion would greatly improve eso. I feel like they will tackle the four basic classes and redo their skill lines into very clear aspects for damage, healing and tanking like the warden and necromancer have. Also things like general crit chance and the distinction of weapon and spell crit as well as weapon damage and spell damage leave the game in a rather confusing state for new players I believe, so that's something they will probably change again. My feeling is they are not done at all and instead of doing one major overhaul they implement these step by step balancing changes which take way too long. Personally, I would appreciate one major overhaul if that means we won't get major balancing changes in the next few years and instead we are greeted with actual new content like weapon skill lines.

Well, they did say they'd have some of the engine code rewritten by the end of this year to improve performance. I wonder where they're at on meeting that commitment.

On another front, I was in cyrodiil for 50 minutes last night. I was stuck in combat for 40 of those 50 minutes. That bug has existed for 5 years now. Sometimes it gets a little better, sometimes a little worse, but it's ever present.

    No.

U35, and the lack of the promised follow-up Q&A, reveal a lot about where the company is at with this game.

For me everything is fine, so I don't really care.
nothing has really changed for me, except making improvements on my builds lol

    throughout the year:
    • i was happy for account wide achievements, it completely frees my shackles to being forced to play a single character and use the one that is appropriate for the group im running with instead of trying to force my main through certain content hes not good with
    • the card game introduced with high isles is fun, and has decent rewards, good to help kill time while working from home, but not something i would probably enjoy playing competitively or even all the time
    • enjoyed high isle story and side quests
    • enjoyed the new companions, the only part i absolutely hate about companions is needing to run through the POI quest on every character to be able to use them that requirement is absolutely ridiculous

U35 had a lot of negative hype (and i am still not particularly happy about the heavy nerfs to sticky dots, i am glad they walked back some of the dot changes), but my main dps toon a stamplar is hitting the highest dmg ive ever been able to do (not really fond of the new jabs animation, but when im fighting i am most certainly not paying attention to the jabs animation)

all in all i would say nothing much really changed for me (U35) or overall was an improvement (AWA)

I understand, for some people, a lot of this was an improvement, and that's great. But, if they are going to go with AWA, please, as you even noted, have it consistent.... I did that quest to get the companion, and I can even click on it and get a quest guide arrow for another character....
Just let us unlock them for our account .... I like Mirri's quest, but it gets tiresome to do it more that twice ....
We get the benefit of the companions, even if our current character has never met them.... my newest character got a Mirri gift in the very first chest he ever opened, at level 4, having never met Mirri .....
Please be consistent, either AWA the whole thing, or make companions AND their passives character only.

so the companion unlock isnt tied to achievements at all, its actually in the collection menu, but the collection menu forbids use of the companion on characters that have not completed the quest

i unlocked mirri and bastion on 10 characters, and was quite dissatisfied when i had to do the same for ember and isobel (especially with how freaking long isobels unlock quest is, even speeding its still upwards twice as long as the other 3 companions)

I want to believe they'll do better. I do. I've put my money where my faith is though.

Which is to say that I not only cancelled my subscription a month and some ago, but actually had my remaining subscription time refunded to me (and I've been a bit cagey about even saying that lest I be -snipped-), under the argument that the game going forward was not the game I had paid a subscription for.

I keep an eye on the PTS, but things aren't showing promise yet. Hope is a bitter thing right now.

The combat choices are still very clearly unpopular among a wide swatch of players, not just "endgame" or "lowend" or whatever term de jour is applied to cause a scuffle between folks in the forums. Will ZOS change direction?
One hopes, but so far they seem to enjoy roasting marshmallows over their tirefire so it's hard to tell.

    Hi.

I had a post removed that was neither baiting, nor bashing. In fact, I pointedly did not mention people to avoid that.

What my post was, like most of the posts in this thread and in others that are still active, was critical. Not bashing critical, but critical nonetheless. As has been noted by your moderation team's comments time and time again, all views are welcome, as long as you fall within the community guidelines.

    Which I did.

So, again, this is a point of censorship, not moderation. Do better.

    >Solo story contents is still hopeful as one of Elder Scrolls series.

    >Group dungeon, the new dungeon visual become very nicer than before,
but mech is still so much cheap as game of 2022.

    >PVP and Trial are almost dead. But it's not so Elder Scroll theme anyway.
Just optional contents, not main at all as Elder Scrolls.

    >General combat issue. It's hopeless from 2014, and still too much dated
game design in 2022. But I don't care anymore about this. Elder Scrolls is more
RPG title than hardcore action game anyway.

    This one is hopeful.

However, story, vision and creativity wise, the game is not same, say, four years ago. No doubt the global pandemic has a lot to do with that. Sammy keeps his paws crossed that things will improve.
