It's Time to Change - Harvesting Nodes

You basically want instanced harvest node where they're present for each player to loot. Sadly this would tank what little demand there is for someone to harvest it if there's no competition to get the node.

Only one i do agree changing is fishing like There's a whole damn. Ocean how did i run out of fish in this spot?

Speaking as someone who is a sport fisherman... ooooooohhhhhhhhhh maaaaaaaaaaaaan... you'd be surprised. The ocean is infinitely bigger than the number of fish in it... you can go out there feeling like today is the best day ever to catch fish, then after 12 hours on the beach without a single bite: you're breaking your rod over your knee and giving the water middle fingers.

As the descendant of professional fishermen let me add that prior to the invention modern of stuff like echo location, locating enough fish regularly to make a living was an art and there were closely guarded tricks to doing it. Even today a lot of professional fishers use them in addition to their modern aids. And no, they won't tell just anyone about these secrets of the trade.

So yeah, you easily "run out" of fish and only people who have never tried fishing whether professionally or for sport would make such a ludicrous claim.

Oh, no.... I will NOT tell people about things like that - I fish a fairly public lake, where I am, and I consistently catch fish... and NOPE, I do not share my technique with just anyone......

EQ1 came out in 1999 not the bastardized version of it called EQ2.

    hard disagree with everything else.

This event has highlighted how annoying and outdated this mechanic is. This is not EQ2, it's 2021, not 1999. Put a stop to material nodes disappearing once one person harvests them. IF for some arcane reason you must have them expire (for stability reasons or whatever) allow at least three people have a go at it. Nothing is more annoying that having numerous bots rampaging around a zone harvesting all the mats.

Also ideally I would love to see the fishing nodes be turned into just fishing the entire lake or river, and make the fish nodes special pools where you catch more fish for a short time. Like WoW does it... their system is better and makes it more of a pass-time instead of just another harvesting node.

Right they have lots of things locked behind cool downs, so once a node is accessed, yes once they open it, you have say 2 mins to loot whatever's there. Reason being is different characters may have different bonuses and you don't want to get stuck with someone else's roll.

So once I unlock and open a chest, that node becomes instanced to me and resets after 2 mins. Problem solved. Once you access a node it should no longer remain public.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

So you want bot trains to all get resources from the same node?

No it shows that the community hasn't cared about it being a problem for a while. Especially when the Last pre necro post was almost 2 years ago.

Are you sure no other posts have come in between that time? I often find old threads with a search and reply before I realize how old they are, but the trends seem consistent over my 5+ years playing.

We already have instanced nodes there called surveys.

Main changes needed is to add furniture mats to those surveys and an equivalent to the fur traps that clothing surveys have to alchemy surveys, while adding water plants, mushrooms and nightshade to the pool of nodes that can spawn in alchemy surveys in addition to the current flowers.

-instanced nodes: hard pass, that would cause all sorts of dramas. However, adding one of each node to the end of a dungeon as additional reward? Sure, extra materials for those who are inclined.
-bot harvesters: these are my bugbear, I dislike these with a vengeance and unfortunately there is no way to really deal with them anymore, you can’t grab a mob and aggro dump on them, you can’t stop them with “mystery meat”, you can’t do anything at all to them, and they go about nabbing all the Rubedite and Platinum seams. Reporting them does nothing, there’s just too many to even try dealing with that way…. The only grace period we get is updates, a full 6-12 hours of no bots….
-fishing nodes: I don’t fish, but I do agree that there should be a tweak made for this.

Harvesting and fishing is fine the way it is. Leave it alone.

It may break more close to even, but I would still bet more would want harvesting fixes than housing fixes. That said, I would be fine adding housing/furnishing mats to the harvesting mix. That would not take a significant amount of time.

    Greetings,

We have closed this topic as it was originally created in February 2021. In many cases, it's better to create a new thread on a topic that you want to discuss as opposed to bumping one that is rather old.

    Thank you for your understanding.
