Why?

depravity_influence
Since forever this has happened. A bis item comes out and we all run dungeons for it. Group members ask what they want/need and just speed through the dungeon. I think its funny that they dont take the time to check for treasure chest. Ive found so many needed items in chest. I understand that rng is [snip] about which chest are in the dungeon but if your really looking for an item dont you think they would try to look for chest. I never understood that. lol. Its just so funny to me.

a more appropriate title would have been "Why don't farmers/speedrunners check chests?"

    why that title?

Because it worked. We both clicked to find out what it was about.

Checking chests would slow down the run too much. Chest being there is rng, getting stuff from a chest is even more rng. Chests are pretty much useless when you can get whatever you want from a boss drop eventually.

    This

I used to chest farm like crazy since it was the best way to increase weapon drops. Now it's faster to just power through and get the guaranteed drop for something you're missing from last boss.

Chest are still nice to have thought and I'll always get them on my runs when I see them. Didn't bother much during the last event with double drops thought 😅

If you don't have the perk for chest visibility on the character or a map of chest spawns they can be hard to notice.

You also ram into the issue that the items are frequently duplicates with the likelihood of them being duplicates increasing the more items you have.

Seeing a chest is awesome when you've got only a few items but, when you've got 30+ items it becomes meh.

Hard disagree. I've gotten weapon drops I needed in chests more often then from the dungeon boss thus I will always stop for a chest. It's how I got tzogs jewelry, kinras inferno, Medusa jewelry and Zens dagger.

I spent some less than happy days farming Dread Cellar and the chests did help me. While most of the drops were duplicates, I'd occasionally get a new weapon, which reduced the maximum number of runs I'd have to go through until I got what I wanted. The improvement on the odds might not be astronomical, but whatever got me closer to my goal was worth the time.

The terminology is a “cliffhanger title,” and is bannabe on some forums. But clearly acceptable on this one.

I always check chest when farming for sets, I actually seek them out after the final boss.
Maybe their just in it for daily rnd?

Ever notice how you get the same set consecutively when farming chests? For example, if you pull a Mothers Sorrow shield from a chest, theres a 90% chance the next chest or two will also be a Mothers Sorrow item. Then, when it switches to a Mothers Embrace item, you’ll get a string of ME items before it switches over to Plague Doctor, you’ll get another 2 or 3 of those from the following chest. Several times I’ve got the exact same item consecutively, like, Mothers Sorrow resto staff. Open a new/different chest 1 munute later, ANOTHER Mothers Sorrow resto staff (different trait). This has happened multiple times.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? This cannot be RNG. It’s something else…

    Seriously.... NO, please NO!
Not rushing the dungeon if anyone has the quest: fine.
Not skipping anything if people don't want to: fine.

But searching the dungeon for chests during a random group run, is simply a no go. If you want to farm chests for items, solo the dungeon or get a premade group. Don't expect three other people to wait for you until you are done crouching through every side tunnel.

I disagree specifically for Falkreath Hold. Lots of times I go in and people are looking for pillar of nirn or the antiquity that comes from the chests.
In other dungeons, I glance at chest locations to see if I find anything and if I don’t I move on. If someone finds a chest I’ll come back after I pull (as tank, because I don’t notice fast enough).
