Interesting observation into how the undead are seen.... and why can't we get an undead pet?

I have come to understand that we need to clarify how some things are seen in Tamriel --- my necromancer can get in trouble for accidentally hitting a key and popping a skill... albeit, all the skills that get you in trouble are ones that do damage, and target something. So, you are, actually. getting arrested for attacking, as opposed to having undead.....
I look at this because my Sorcerer is openly walking around with Daedric pets..... despite the supposed dread of the anchors, and Molag Bal.
And, my vampire can go into town.... but only has issues if he ate someone on the far side of the continent, and then it's a silly sort of penalty..... people won't sell to you.
Again, if they are so afraid of that vampire, why would they risk antagonizing it, by refusing to let it buy and sell, so that it goes away..... and WHY can I get around that by putting on my skeleton skin from Shadowfen, and then, sell and buy .....

They don't even question where that skeleton might be hiding his coin purse.

So, walking around with daedric minions... just fine.
Being a vampire, just fine.
Being a skeleton, just fine.
And yet, I am unable to have a servitor skeleton.

Just an observation.

Just mesmerize the merchant and they'll talk to you as a vampire/criminal, and if you use the overtly vampire powers you'll be attacked on sight to btw.

As for summoned daedra, they're puppets. They're your soul bound slaves that obey your every word. They're not independent free will pets.

Meanwhile necromancy is bending other people's bodies, and sometimes even souls, to your will. It's completely and utterly atrocious to most cultures in Tamriel, whereas summoning is not.

There are some undead pets, like the dragon constructs, the skeletal guar, wolf and cub, ghost chicken, kitty, mudcrab and netch and even a vampiric dragon-illusion imp.

Like you, I feel the game is somewhat inconsistent towards what it considers good and bad. So, raising granny from the dead in the middle of the town is bad, but no one bats an eye when I invoke an unregulated cemetery? If people know I'm a vampire even when I'm covered head to toe in armor, I'd presume they can sniff necromancers as well (their occupation might give them a, say, "pungent" smell) but nobody will turn you away despite knowing about your career in post mortem operations.

Interestingly, the people of Fargrave are far more coherent. You can safely bring up your recyclable assistants there and no one will care.

Caveat: Don't read too much into the justice system; it's a game mechanic first and foremost. For example, I think we can all agree that instant international, cross-faction, long distance and even interdimensional exchange of criminal files and enforcement assistance is not actually a thing across Nirn and Oblivion, especially given some parts of the world barely qualify as having a government.

    That being said ...

Lore-wise, vampires absolutely do get murdered in many places - walk around Vivec City (in Lore, not ingame) as a known vampire and there will be a legion of Ordinators, Armigers and other Big Damn Hero Types piling onto Bitey McFangs like a band of Gauls spotting a lonesome Roman.

If it's a known vampire. I always assume that they're not actually as easy to spot as our ingame appearances would suggest, otherwise there wouldn't be any left.

As for Daedra versus undead? Daedra are known and established magical servants in many places of Tamriel. How much will fly will certainly vary, but bands of bound Dremora may be guarding a Tribunal temple, and a variety of scamps, imps or similar creatures are said to flit across High Rock as messengers for Breton messages, to name just two example. Conversely, plenty cultures see Undead as despiccable abominations; almost no one likes their loved ones rising again.

There are exceptions to this too, mind you - in Cyrodiil for example Necromancy is restricted but possible on some criminals or with prior consent. The Khajiit hardly care, the Reachmen don't really have laws to begin with and some Clans openly practice necromancy, and the Dunmer... are complicated. If it's on a Dunmer and not properly clad in the trappings of ancestor worship, it's blasphemy of the highest order, but on non-Dunmer it might just fly, depending. But then you get the politics of keeping up appearances with their less Necromancy-inclined allies ontop ... Oh, and Telvanni? Haha.

TLDR? It's too complex for our simplified justice system, so they went with global effect for our benefit, and simplified it to 'Daedra tend to be okay', 'Undead tend not to be okay' and 'Vampires feeding on people is not okay'.

I thought I'd hate the hound's screaming, but as it turns out I quite like it. The doggy's just asking for some love and fresh victims. Who can blame it?

In addition to the undead pets already mentioned there is the Mummified Alfiq you can get from Rimmen Necropolis in Northern Elsweyr
You need to find 10 mummified Alfiq parts that you can then lego together to make the pet

EDIT: Forgot to add that the parts drop from standard mobs iirc, and that place has TONS. Great XP and loot farm too B)

I have 8 parts already -- been working on that one too
I have a high elf necromancer, who, oddly enough, in the random face (I do that with most of my characters), ended up looking like Imhotep in the Brandon Fraser Movies ......

I've debated on whether giving him a cat is actually a thing I should do ......
