I could toss someone a few million and not notice.

I see most people answering what they would do, rather than answering the question of how much they could give. I could give a lot, but I don’t. I do send hold to new players asking questions, seeming interested in the game, and struggling with some things, usually 25-50k. I don’t ever send gold to people specifically asking for gold.

If the Unwashed masses want my precious gold, they will have to earn it from me. I demand that they entertain me with Blood Sports, ideally a duel to the death in my Slave Colosseum. If I feel merciful, I will also accept a Rap battle.

If they asked me for gold, I would give them tips on earning it as i'm not going to encourage begging and give away my money.

Now if I see someone new talking about how expensive bag upgrades are or how they're struggling to keep up with daily riding lessons but not actually asking for gold, I might send 100k or so their way. I also send whole stacks of basic crafting mats when I see someone asking for 3 of X for a daily writ (not including alchemy mats as they're far more valuable than a stack of sanded maple).

If it's a friend I know that needs money, I'll give them a couple of million without batting an eye.

Almost never if someone asks just because I think it’s more often people who want everything now and don’t want to put in their own money or effort, etc. (I know that isn’t always the case but I’ve run into such enough in games and in real life to be sour, unfortunately.)

But I do love to help other players, especially new, and so if they’re asking about something else or need some specific materials to complete a writ, etc. I will often send them that and extras and often some gold too.

There's a saying that goes something along the lines of "give bread not coin"

I'll give them purple training gear and buff foods with no questions asked, some advice on how to make progress in the game too, but no cash handouts.
I remember there was someone begging for gold in stonefalls, relatively small amount, 5k tops. They wanted the money to buy gear from the vendors. I told them that all the gear from the vendors were overpriced and that they'd be better off just stealing the gear from the stall and laundering at an outlaws refuge or deconstructing it for mats to make it themselves and that doing this would help level important skills(legerdemain and crafting), at this time I didn't keep mats below my level(I don't have a sub) so I couldn't craft a set for them. They said it sounded like too much of a hassle to do asked me to just give them the gold, I told them the process would only take maybe 2-5 mins, they just asked for the gold again, so I just left.

Sent 100k at least 5 times. But not to beggars and strangers. Just to new guildmates who asked about game aspects actively and then struggled with low inventory.

I could give away millions without even noticing thanks to years of writs and not having a big need for gold. I typically give new players a few 100k and craft gear for them, though, because in my experience most new people move on from MMORPGs pretty quickly.

I was just thinking that the game gives so much away for free in levelling up and daily rewards compared to when I started and I had to save up to buy my first horse.

Not players begging for gold. Players who have replied to my /zone Any new players around? chat. Helped some new crafters, and I've given several players 100k for bank and bag space. And then told them how they could make their own gold so they'd be able to do the rest themselves for all their alts. I make training gear for them as well if they want it. People helped me out along the way and simply asked that I help others out once I could, so I pay it forward.

Yes, I'm big on pay it forward too. Friends helped me get started - one with gold, one with gear. When I had quite a bit of gold myself, I sent them gold to pay them back, which both returned, and both of them asked that I just help out others as they helped me.

About once a week lately (lots of new players around seems like) I get a whisper wanting to know if I could spare a few mats, usually for alchemy and JC. I send a stack of whatever was requested (yes, even columbine and corn flower - I have thousands of both) and pewter, and 10k gold - and ask if they need gear. If they answer yes, I make them level 10 purple training gear.

And nearly every one of them has sent me a tell or a mail later, offering to repay me; I tell them "I don't need it; just help out the next person who asks for help."

I never see the beggars - I don't have zone chat visible.

I selected the closest option to "other" as there was nothing that matches how I feel.

Personally, I find farming gold even on a new account to be stupidly easy provided you have a place to sell it. My guild's target membership is such a player and so I'm a little biased here. I have (often) mailed a player large sums of gold, usually enough to buy any "classic" home if I genuinely think they are new to the game.

Let's answer this based on how it would happen.
Scenario 1: I receive a whisper asking for gold. My response is to offer them a place to sell, if they turn that down then I offer to buy something they might not think has value (like mundane runes) at market rate, because I'll just sell any excess at 7% above and break even. This accomplishes my first offer in the end without them really thinking about it. If they don't have anything to sell me, then I give them a small task like (collect 200 of any resource and I'll buy the stack), if they turn that down then I write them off as someone just wanting a handout.

Scenario 2: Someone in zone chat is looking for carrots for their daily quest. My response is to send them 200 because I have thousands and the item is meaningless to me but probably a big deal to them. IF they respond asking how much money they owe me then this tells me they are truly new and don't know that the item is practically worthless. This is when I send 222k and welcome them to the game :). If they don't respond to the veggies in the mail then I move on with my life.

tl:dr - I've gifted up to a million before, it doesn't really impact me that heavily, but I need to know they truly need it ;)

New player asking for gold? I usually have a "sob story" about <insert local mobtype here> jumped me when I was harvesting some ore and took all my gold.

If it's a friend of mine that's new to the game, they get 500K.

This! Whatever game I play, I never forget that I was a scrubby noob once and people helped me, either through advice or gear, or the occasional carry. If I help anyone I just tell them to pay it forward and help the next person.

I see new people, but they generally don't stay long. If you knew they were going to stay around long enough to enjoy your money then fair enough. But people come and people go. They'll take your money or gifts, then log off and join the missing people on your friends list.

I usually deny such requests, but if I encounter a newbee who seems to be a good person, I give him gold food and 40-100k for the pack-merchant and some hints to get started (like getting Assault skill 3 for faster riding in cyro).

With a few I still have contact weeks later, and one turned out to become a valuable crown-seller for me.

It really depends on the circumstances so I went with 50k.

Honestly I find that often new players really love equipment and materials more tnan gold.

I regularily give away motifs, recipes and funrniture plans, a set of simple blue motifs can make a players day!

I have an old guild bank I keep stocked with such items, oh and event style pages and rune boxes, I give those away too.

Often genuine new players try to offer payment, my answer is always the same "one day do the same for a new player you come across"

It's good to pay it forward! 💕
      When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!
