If a New ESO Player asked you for Gold, how much could you give them without batting an Eye???

If someone is begging for gold I'll ignore them. If they need mats for writs, or some training gear, I'll gladly help out.

I would teach them the ways of how to make gold, but no hand outs.
Somebody already brought up the ‘teach a man to fish’ angle, but yeah. I usually point them towards robbing the Daggerfall docks if they need money.

Now, if they ask for something like enchanting glyphs for decon, those I will generally mail whatever I have on me at the time.

Like other people have said how much I'd be willing to give them depends on the situation. If it's a total stranger spamming map chat begging for gold I'd give them nothing but might suggest some more productive ways to use their time.

For new players I usually recommend stealing because you can do it and make ok gold (especially for a new player) on any character - your build an gear do not matter at all and while there's skills which can help they're not required to start. If they're not willing to steal then I'd recommend either just doing quests (no it's not good gold for an experienced player, but again it's accessible to everyone) or daily crafting writs which are more of a commitment because you need the skills and materials but can be very profitable over time.

If it's someone I know or trust, like a guild member, then it depends on what they're asking for. I'm more likely to help someone asking for gold towards something they need (like gear) than cosmetics. I get those can be important to people, myself included, but not having them won't hold you back, so if you can't afford them you can just wait until next time.

More than a few times I have explained how daily writs work not just to new players but ones that have been around for a long time and ignored the crafting side of the game.

Recommend guides for mat farming set ups, recommend add ons like lazy writ, map pins, harvest map, lost treasure etc...

Even invited a few of the ones that are serious to one of the trade guilds I am in which is on the lower side when it comes to weekly dues.

If asked nicely free training gear up to blue quality for everything other than the rings/necklace, same with other low level gear in other traits aside from expensive ones. That said more than a few times over the years I have given out purple weapons/armour and even enchanted the gear.

Given a few 100% XP potions out to a few random encounters I have had with people who were levelling up to 50.

As for gold really depends, I have loaned gold to a few guild members from time to time at no interest about 100K at a time at most, so far always been paid back within a month no rush.

Not really a fan of just handing gold over to people just because they ask for it in zone chat, even less likely if someone whispers for it never know if its actually a new player or just someone hoping to prey off peoples good will, more than a few times I have seen people bragging about getting over a million gold all up, just standing around in different zone chats begging for a few hours.

Have played along with the occasional role players acting like the beggars in Skyrim though, stopped and given them 1 gold coin and they acted out the dialogue. More out of curiosity than anything else.

As I used to say back in the day in WoW... "I keep all my gold on mobs out in the world. You're welcome to go get it." o:)

(honestly, though, I don't even know how to directly trade with another player in this game. It's probably a right-click menu, but I've never even tried looking for it. /shrug
Luckily, I've never had anyone ask me for anything. Seen a few general "gold pls" posts in zone general, but that's it.)

...I really don't understand why anyone would beg random people for gold in an MMO. It seems very strange and intrusive and rude.

truly, daily dungeons and crafting on 9 toons is 30k a day for 30 days. 2-3 months you got all bank and bag spaces.

A new person isn't going to have the mats to craft for 9 toons a day, and a low level one isn't gonna be able to do a daily dungeon. Its nice you're willing to help them out so much though!

my account was opened july 31st. i have 9 toons am cp 360+ on 2 and have all the sky shards on one. Please don't tell me what can't be done. They are all sporting the title cyrodil skyshard hunter.

Just because you did it, doesn't mean it's generally gonna be something people can do. That's a poor metric. New are generally speaking not going to have the ability to do all of that. They generally lack mats, coin, gear, and knowledge. And they accumulate these things at different paces. It's great for Usain Bolt that he's the fastest man alive. It doesn't make it the general human running speed, which is what the average person can accomplish.

It's actually very common, especially in older MMOs, for new players to seek help from experienced players in the all chats. It's one of the reasons stuff like zone chats exist. You might not like it, but they aren't being any of those things. MMOs tend to be dense games with a lot of stuff to learn and some get overwhelmed by it. That's all. I can count the number of these people that were rude or continued to beg after being give a bit of guidance on one hand.

like everyone else said, it depends on who they are and what they want it for. for buying their first house? i'll give a friend a mil to cover that.

most of my friends who i got into eso i usually ask them how much help or assistance they want and they usually don't want any other than some useful tips. they like the learning and growing and doing it by themselves

A newb rando who asked nicely and seemed sincere, 10-15K and not bat an eye. Done numerous times.

A co-worker buddy who is newish and struggling in the economy game, just gave him a million last Sunday to get him up and running.

Early on I was gifted a nice chunk of change by a kind random stranger, and I recall how much it helped (as well as the impression it made about the community in ESO), and I have always remembered that and have always tried to pay if forward as well for others, so that they can enjoy those same feelings when starting their adventures in Tamriel.

absolutely nothing, I live by the phrase neither a borrower( I include beggars in this) nor a lender be in real life as well as in game.

I see the same names in different zones asking for handouts all the time, I just block them, I'd say half or more are lying imo.
Heck I'm poor on PC too, but I have some pride, and just make do with with what I have

But only to guildies or someone I've grouped with. Not to some random player in zone chat.

Because I don't farm, do most dungeons, or sell stuff at a guild trader, I've never had more than 1.5 million gold at a time and I've been playing for a while. So I don't give out handouts lightly.

Where as I do have plenty to spare, I won't hand-out to beggars in Zone chat. You don't really know who they are.

The game provides enough for new players to get going and not go broke.

I have sent free stuff to someone who asks in Zone to buy say a crafting mat; so since they're willing to pay I send it for free, if that makes sense. I make plenty on the guild traders so I have no need to try and make money in Zone chat.

I once saw a player, probably about two years ago, or more, in Glenumbra, begging for Gold; say 2000 gold. I could have given it to him no problem. His argument was that he had very little time to play so needed others to give him a bit of gold. He was probably on for close to an hour, or more, begging and arguing. My reply to him early on was just to steal junk and go sell it at the nearby fence in the local Outlaw's Refuge. Nope, that would be "playing" and he'd no time for that LOL. I mean for that hour he could have made thousands of gold just doing game stuff.

A friend of mine, new to MMOs, recently started playing. I hooked him up with a few of the good guilds I'm in, including another friend's. They gave him 100K gold to "get started". Now I wouldn't have done that personally. I wanted him to enjoy getting into the game and earning his way a bit. I've now shown him how to make gold selling on the guild traders and he's much more independent. Naturally, I'll gladly help with mats and gear, but only on an as-needed basis. He's not really come to me for anything since early on and he's quite enjoying the game without the "crutch" of needing me.

I just think people begging in Zone for loads of gold are just lazy or scammers. And if it's a tiny amount, again, they can get that in just a few minutes of doing something game-wise in the game.
PC NA Yes, I use add-ons.

For me, it depends a lot of the reason why they ask for gold. My experience is that it's rarely newbies needing some gold to ease their start (in that case, I give), but mostly players who just try to skip playing the content and/or grind, and hope to get enough by asking in every maps one after the other. In that last case, I don't give anything.

I gave someone the 1.5m for a house because they didn't ask for it.

It's unfortunate you have to be wary about people who ask for gold, because you're not quite sure if they're scamming or not and, while you'd like to be kind.. the odds of them being deceitful is too high these days.

No I wouldn't, I'd tell them to start crafting so they can make gold. To start out, the amount of gold from crafting is quite good. But I never sell through guildvendors, so the only gold I have is from questing, making it worth quite much to me. But if I really had to pick an amount to give away which wouldn't hurt me too much, I'd say 100k or so.

Have actually seen many new players this weekend, welcome to ESO you all! Feels good to see that many new players.

I wont give out gold to anyone that asks for it.. but I have on many occasions given gold when new players have asked for certain mats to help them out. This is usually the result of asking further questions, what are you doing, what are you finding difficult, how are you going about it etc and you can usually figure out if they are genuine or not. I havent given any more than 10K each time but I like to feel like I am helping them out just a bit

I won't give people gold, but if someone asks for mats in zone chat and I have a large surplus I don't plan on using, I'll mail them those mats. Someone asked for Flax in Glenumbra, unless I get new character slots I'm never going to use them again so I sent him 3 stacks; he was kinda shocked getting that much for free.
