Depends on the player and our relationship. I'd never give gold to a stranger that wasn't at least in one of my guilds.

If someone asks/begs to me for gold I won't give them anything but when I see new players struggeling to expand their backpack space I give them 50k so they can buy some upgrades.
It happens mostly when I see some questions in zone chat and I whisper them to help them with a teleport or such and we keep on talking.

How much could I give them? Easily 7 figures, how much would/ have I given a new player? Definitely handed out 6 figures on a few occasions. I gave a CP 100 something 350k for a Pillar of Nirn inferno staff the other day. Pretty sure he would have taken 10k if I had offered it. Wanted to make his day, and really didnt want to run the dungeon 20+ more times. LOL

I wouldn't bat an eye at several million for someone I know. New players I usually will give around 50k if I'm sure they're new - like asking about how to afford bank/bag upgrades.

If those fetchers want gold, they better make their pixels dirty. No handouts. I don't expect anyone to give me money, and I don't give my hard-earned gold to anyone else. Unless, of course, they're sending me gifts via crown store.

I have encountered beggars several times. Most of them quit playing very quickly, they are not interested in the process, they want to get everything at once

Someone asked me for cash a few weeks ago. When I gave him a few tips on how to earn cash his replies provided enough evidence to prove he knew how to make money (probably more easily than me). He was just lazy. I realised later that I probably should have asked him for money.

I said 3k but I'd probably give more than that. That's just a guesstimate. When I see people asking for coin to get stuff like their horse trained I often give it to them. More often they ask for items like soul gems, lockpicks, or a few mats for the level 1 crafting writs. I give those too. I've can't remember a genuinely new player ever asking for more than like 3k, they usually just want something small.

truly, daily dungeons and crafting on 9 toons is 30k a day for 30 days. 2-3 months you got all bank and bag spaces.

A new person isn't going to have the mats to craft for 9 toons a day, and a low level one isn't gonna be able to do a daily dungeon. Its nice you're willing to help them out so much though!

I really only give out gold to guildies if I learn they are new to the game. They don’t ask, but I often send them 10k as a welcome present.

I often “give away” upgrade mats as well but I limit it to just what blue and purple mats I have a lot of at that moment.

I'm in between "I would give them monies" and "teach them how to make gold"

I remember how difficult it was starting out and not having 10g to my name, then seeing things like repair costs, or buying gear from a vendor (I knew less than Jon Snow when I started) and thinking how in the world am I ever going to afford these prices? :D

So I wouldn't have any problems gifting them gold or gear but I'd look for an opportunity to help them learn too.

If they wanted 100k for a very over-priced piece of gear in the guild traders I'd ask what are they looking for the item to do for them?
Sometimes it could be just that they watched a streamer who said "This is the set you NEED." So they set out to try and get it without really knowing why, or what it can (or can't) do for their build.
Often I can craft something nearly as good that will hold them over until they are ready to go for specific later-game sets.
And give them a bit of gold for travel expenses ;)

Bank\Bag upgrades too I have no problem helping with, but also ask them if we could take a minute to look at their inventory. See what they are carrying, versus what they actually need to haul around with them. The game throws a lot of stuff at you and it's easy to lose track of it. Also some things that look like they could be useful or important really aren't and can be dropped or sold.

So gold or gear sure, but also see if I can pass on a bit of knowledge for them.

Also, to be clear, if we are talking about the random dude that asks for money in zone chat, then my answer is a big freaking ZERO.

If we are talking about a new player, usually encountered in group finder, that is asking questions and showing legitimate interest in getting better, my standard move is to craft them some solid purple starter gear, and usually attach 50-100k gold to the mail.

my "max" amount is 1k as a ONE TIME donation. after that, you have to earn it.

now for random crafting mats, i am more than willing to give you with what you NEED, as long as i have an over-abundance of that particular item

after reading a lot of your posts, i suddenly feel like a massive "scrooge" with my 1k max cap. i guess it stems from me never really breaking the 1m mark on my own. for me, giving out crafting mats is more beneficial when i see it pop up in the chat.

I don't want to encourage begging. If they ask for generic assistance, I might make training gear and send potions, soul gems, lock picks, etc. I might even give them some gold if I feel it might help them or if they are a close friend.

If they are just in zone saying "Someone send me gold plz" it's not going to happen from me.

Beggars get nothing; new players regularly get 100k gifts and information on how to upgrade their inventory, because IMO inventory makes a huge difference in game enjoyability when new.

It may seem cynical, but there be many posing in zone chat as 'new players' and asking for gold or materials. It's dishonest but somewhat profitable in environments where toxic positivity is rampant. The same thing happens IRL with people posing as beggars to make easy money off magnanimous, yet gullible, people with good intentions.

Now if we're talking about someone I've gotten to know and they genuinely need assistance, then sure, I don't mind helping them. However I do believe in the old adage of teaching a man to fish vs feeding him for a day. It's stupid easy to get gold for the bare essentials in this game like mount upgrades.
