Making A New Character

Hey fam.

Just a little background - im nearly CP 1500 and have only played on my NB. Played every role - healer, mag dps, stam dps, tank, stam pvp, mag pvp, solo builds, one bar builds, you name it. I've done pretty much all the quests in the game and am an achievement junky so I go for every little achievement. The problem is that the NB is pretty stale to me - to say the least. I'd love a class change token (which I know there have been 600 threads about already). I'm heavily considering making another character but am truly dreading everything about it - leveling every skill line, map completion, crafting w/ motifs, skyshards, lorebooks, etc.

For those of you that ran into this and ended up making another character, how was it? Do you enjoy it/are you glad you did it or did it just make you burn out in the game? Looking forward to some opinions!

    I enjoyed it. Yes, some of the more boring level up aspects are not great fun (psijic skill line, getting your mount to max speed, legardemain, crafting skills). That said, the opportunity to replay quests is very fun and kind of makes up for some of the skill grindiness. Experiencing a different class is nice. There are also potential benefits to multiple characters. Want to do an endeavor quest in Chorrol and its owned by another alliance? Switch to an alt of the appropriate alliance.

    The best advice I can offer is to take your time and enjoy the journey - don't rush it.

    That all said, after 7 or 8 characters, I don't think I have it in me to repeat the process again. So I'm completely with you in wishing for class change tokens.

    I did it three times, and that was rather bad decision since all classes feel the same. A good thing, though, you can get more transmutes and more mats from the daily crafting writs.

    Make an alt - skip all the "leveling every skill line, map completion, crafting w/ motifs, skyshards, lorebooks, etc.", leave that for your main. Get enough skill points for a build and have fun on an alt.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

    Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

    Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

    Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

    Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

    Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

    The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

    The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

    Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

    Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

    And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

    After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

    After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

    Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

    Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

    We really need a class change token, the only reason why some people are against it are these 2 main ones.

    1. You can level a new character to 50 in a few hours
    2. People would change to flavour of the month class

    And here are my reasons as to why those 2 are wrong.

    1. People that want to change class have much more invested into a character than just a level, 50 being the case here. We have hundreds of quests done, many skill lines unlocked and leveled up, memories with that character that can't be replaced, motifs learned, riding lessons... you name it, we want to play with that character but we just want to change the class, it's just three skill lines really, it can't be that hard for ZOS to do.

    2. The kind of people that change to the flavour of the month class already can just do what you say and have an alt with that different class, they actually do this already and usually this kind of player cares more about result and winning than the connection with that character, which is completely fine but this proves that this point is just weak. And even then we could just have some kind of cooldown to this, few months, few weeks, doesn't matter that much, even making it something like 5000 crowns too, I would pay 10000 even.

    Anyone against this, feel free to state your reasons and I will be glad to discuss them.

    2050ish champion points, 18 characters, 3 of each class.
    Made a point of getting this on all 18:
    - Character level 50;
    - Base game main quest;
    - All crafting skills 50;
    - Maxed riding skills;
    - 8 traits researched on all items;
    - Undaunted, fighters guild, mages guild, psijic 10;
    - Dark brotherhood at least 7 (shadow rider is awesome);
    - Assault/support at least 6;
    - All lorebooks (I did not deprive half a plane of Oblivion of watchlings to get a substandard bonus from Mora´s Whisper);
    - All non-Cyrodiil skyshards;
    - All public dungeons;
    - Most group dungeons.

    The "trick"? Not rushing any part of it, on any of them.
    Not in the mood to run after skyshards? Dungeon.
    Not in the mood to go on a scavenger hunt for lorebooks or time things? PvP.
    Not in the mood to do anything on that character? Play another character instead.

    You don´t lose progress with time. There is no need to rush it.

    More alts is always a good thing, more transmutes, rp variety, dailies, writs, etc.

    Never feel like you need to 100% every character you have, but if you have the feeling of making an alt and doing something new, make one, it doesn't get rid of your progress on your main.

    I started off with a Nightblade too, trying to make a sneaky bow build (I'm still trying to get one to my liking) but I ended up making one of each class and I am grateful I did. Right now, the Sorcerer is my favorite. I have two characters with every trait researched and am trying to take the other 4 through the same process. I have just a few left on my sorcerer and am about half done with my Templar and have a long way to go with the other two.
    I like having different characters to play with.
    I am also trying to collect every set piece.
    I have every one of the base zones collected and all but 5 of the DLC zones collected. Once I get that done, I will then equip all of my characters with reconstructed gear, and will then have an easy time swapping gear when I need to.

    I hear you. I love leveling up a character. Then I get to CP and feel all depressed. I'm an achievement junkie too. But usually use my main on majority of those. I get the urge to purchase a skill line, to not have to do it all over again. :(

    I made a NB not too long ago, and I didn't like Magicka route, so switched her to Stam, and one bar. I like it much better. Not as much fiddling. I'm on xbox, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Just some builds are clunky to me.

    I've been focusing on housing and building lately! I have to focus on something else. But I haven't made an Orc character yet. So there's that. I guess I'm kinda in the same boat as you are!

    I love making alts. I don't care about how long riding training takes, or how long leveling antiquates takes. I use antiquities to get alts out into the world, grab skyshards and wayshrines, level them up with exploration XP.

    Alts are life for me. I have ZERO use for achievements however.

    I'd suggest making a character of every class asap and doing the horse feeding and crafting trait research. When you want to play any class its pretty quick to level but a fat horse takes rather long. Leveling gear crafting for writs is easy just by deconing junk drops from playing, and having traits already researced gives better rewards. One can't have too many writ ready chars.

    I myself have 9 chars at lv 50 with fully fed horse and gear crafts levelled. (Most still have not all traits researched on every craft which is why I recommend starting research early.) I play one char at time, have one main crafter for styles and recipes and do writs (when I bother) with other chars.

    Pretty much the right way to do it, the only real chore is to level up the riding skill. I recommend leveling it every day on multiple characters even if you don’t intend to play them for the day. That way, the day you decide to play that character, you won’t be bothered by your slow mount. I also recommend making one character of every class so you can have one ready when you decide to try them out.

    I am an alt-o-holic and it's basically one of the reasons I keep playing the game, so creating a new character does the opposite of burning out for me. Leveling nowadays it extremely easy (and I'm not even talking about going the CS route where you can basically buy your way to a complete toon); since you already have a maxed out character you can make training gear for your new alt for every 10 levels and with all the weapons you want to unlock, and also a bunch of things (like glyphs for eg.) for them to decon and level crafting. I assume you already have hundreds of alchemy mats, so leveling alchemy on a new toon literally takes 10 minutes just by crafting pots, and then once you have put some skill points in alchemy, you can do master writs and level 1-50 super fast. But even without master writs, if you have 150% scrolls/drinks and just do random dungeons and daily quests, you'll get there fast as well.

    Then for everything else, you can combine activities to lessen the grind: for example, if you want to gain levels or level a specific weapon line etc., by grinding mobs, then grind in a place where there's undead mobs (or dolmens, like in Alik'r) because that will simultaneously level the FG line. Then if you grind skyshards or the Psijic line, you can also find the lorebooks around those areas as well to level MG. Also, nowadays we have the war torte buffs, so leveling alliance skill lines is also painless if you need skills from there. Finally, I'm not sure how the Undaunted line is after the AwA system, but I think with the dailies it should be done relatively fast as well.

    100% agree with this statement right here. my main is my NB, and while i have only completed about 45-50% of the zones/quests available, I have built such a strong bond with her that I can't just bring myself to dedicate any substantial time and effort into my other 2 characters (Templar and Warden). Those two are literally just there to provide my NB with additional gold and resources if I happen to need any.

    If a class change token ever were to be created, I would probably use it once or twice, just to get a feel of the other classes that I haven't played yet (without having to dedicate extra time to level them), but ultimately I would most likely revert back to my NB in the end.

    Just too many memories and character developement already invested to start over, IMO

    Yep, this is what I did - created last year different chars with every class and after reaching level 50 I did mostly horse training every day. The most annoying skill line is for sure psijic order, this I did not with all of them. Fighters guild is leveling more or less automatically if you are doing dolmen and dungeons, Mage guild can be done while you are hunting for sky shards by reading all books nearby and the weapon skill line is also done pretty quick by doing some dolmen runs. Crafting expert is my (former) main char, one is enough imho. Same is for antiquities, I only need one expert for this. Just go for it, you will see that its really a lot of fun having different characters and because of this different play styles.

    I have plenty of alts and most of them are over 50 now. I've liked trying new races, classes, and mag or stam versions. Never did I rush it, as leveling up was exciting and gave me a chance to appreciate the different skills and race attributes. Some things are plenty grindy like leveling mounts, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, crafting, etc....so not all of my alts have all the abilities & never will. My main does the achievements and all the content; alts are mostly there to try new things. Its given me a chance to realize some surprising things: the class I hated the most was Nightblade when I thought I would like it best: I enjoy being a Dragonknight, a Khajit, and a Templar when my Fibro is acting up. The alts come in handy when an endeavor is in Cyrodil and the whole map might be under the control of armies that are not to my main's liking.

    I very much still enjoy WoodElf and Warden the most, which is what my main is...but sadly, the new changes that are coming are making me even wonder if she will still be viable or if I will even want to continue at all.

    have 12 alts, just creating them because the development time is long and its pretty nice to have an new character to run RND and get the dungeon quest.
    They are an backup, store items and is nice in stuff like some events.
    Grinding just make you go in circles.

    I have 18 characters. I'm glad I did it, because now I'm ESO rich.

    But as far your particular issue goes, no, I haven't had it because I'm a templar and templar's have always been fun to play for me (might change after next patch but the jury is still out). The only time I started to get bored was when she was still a tank. I grew to hate being a tank, and switched to mag dps, and it was fun again.

    My other characters don't do all of the content--I just do whatever content I feel like doing on my alts at any given time. They mainly exist to give me different characters to customize, or if I feel like going with a completely different playstyle than my usual one.

    Since AWA are a thing, I don't really have to worry about what character I'm using to earn achievements anymore. I just send whatever motif pages/plans/recipes I don't already know on my main to her and play whoever I want.

    I now have all 18 chars maxed on both servers with a spread of all classes and roles, PVP and PVE.

    To begin with it was hard, time consuming, tedius and expensive, but in recent years it has become so much easier and much quicker and rewarding, so read a good 'levelling an alt guide' and go for it ! :)

    Yep I realised I have done the initial scrying quest over 150 times :smile:

    I remember a conversation I had with a player who said they had beaten ESO and didn't know what to do. I tried to explain you never beat ESO, you play it. Get bored go fishing, play cards, roll a new NB healer or an Orc spellcaster.

    Explore the amazing map, find the dead couple who were having a picnic in Auridon. Chuckle at Mr Oinkerbottom and wonder who thought of the name.

    I have my imgakin monkey and enjoy ESO as much now as the day he arrived in my backpack.

    Personally I will never invest on another character, because I refuse to get again motifs for example. This would be a mess to me. So I am glad I enjoy my templar, even if I lack range and movement speed. (I only play warrior priests/knights in games, this is no different in ESO).

    As for class change tokens, I am not too sure that we need class changes if we dislike/are bored of our class, sharing more completion would be -imo- the way to go.

    Researching every item again? No way. So we need to have a way to get it fast if we did it w/ one character imo, with crowns or w/o I don't know I am not a dev.

    I am curious to know which stance chose ESO devs. Everything is fine/working as intended for them, right now?

    Cheers

    Alts are fun, if you realise that you don't need to complete everything on every one of them. My main does everything, has the PITA skills lines, virtually all motifs etc and my alts... do some stuff. They're fun for trying out new builds, different play styles, outfits etc They all have different stories.

    naw, just start a new toon, I have 18 toons (CP1750 +/-) I have at least one of each class, both in Mag and Stam, a dedicated, Tank, Healer and PvP toons, when the flavor changes, so do I.

    Everyone is going in one direction, I'm going the other direction

    I think I made a post similar to this last week and got split answers that people like leveling everything up again and others do not.

    From my experience its horrible and I will never make another character again (even though I want to). I always have to use the crowns I get from my subscription on my new character so I don’t need to collect skyshards again which sucks because Id rather save them for a assistant or crates. I also always go back to my favorite character which is my templar so my other classes i started or already leveled up are just sitting there since I don’t want to redo everything I already did and if you join groups your going to go on your main anyways since its already maxed out.

    Its also frustrating when there are so much changes to the game so frequently so a class you might think is useful/good today can be not as useful/bad randomly in a month.

    Its really up to you though. From how it sounds you enjoy your NB and id stick to it. You don’t want to be like me that used my crowns to get skill lines/skyshards for a character im still not going to use. All my real life friends that played eso quit the game completely after making a second character since they had to do everything all over again and just found it boring and pointless.

    Someday we may get a class change token but I think it is too far away to think about waiting for. Skill points are the major issue with alternate character though the armory has helped me with that to some degree.

    So jump off the deep end and try something new. If your into companions as well you can do the mages guild, fighters guild and undaunted dailies to level them and thier skill lines and add quick skill points from skyshards and the public dungeon group quest. Don't need companions but might as well have them get credit in the process.

    I myself have 15 characters, 14 level 50's of varying degrees and skill lines and 1 sub 50 that I will likely level with the last quarter events.

    My NB main has done almost all the things and is my crafter/motif holder with excess skill points to burn. In the armory I have a base templates with all armor, crafting and world passives set up so then just need to apply attribute and weapon skills slottable CP's as needed: 1-Werewolf , 2-Vampire, and 3(bought slot) Current primary build

    My Templar Healer /Solo Build and Necro Tank who are my other main stays have a Current Build and a stripped-out level 1 no anything build in case I want to try something else (Not enough skill points to extra options)

    All of the others have a level 1 build and a crafting build for events and periods i want to grind writs and are a bit more problematic when I want to just jump on and play as they are never set up right (Barely enough skill points for a solid build)
