ZOS – The Card Decks Are Fine – No Need to Change Them

When I first started encountering the last four sets of cards, I would have agreed some of the sets were overpowered and trying to compete against them was futile. However, I have now had all the card decks for some time and have had time to play and experiment with different sets. The short story is every single deck can be overcome and defeated.

I will admit that, yes, some of the decks are somewhat stronger, in and of themselves, but that alone does not mark the card deck a game breaker. I previously made another post about taking a lesson from history and how it applied to ToT. The same lesson applies here as well. Perhaps my military background has conditioned me to think strategically, tactically, and innovatively. History is replete with military conquests where all came to believe one side or the other could not be defeated. However, time showed that when the right combination of forces, strategy, and tactics were applied, the unbeatable could be defeated.

In my opinion, I believe what this comes down to, is some have come to have an affinity for certain deck sets and developed a play style they very much prefer. When they encounter a different set of decks, combined with a play style which overcome them, they find it much easy to say the other decks are overpowered and game breaking.

I know I’m going to be in the minority here, but having learned more about the game, I’m happy with the way things are. I’m no where close to being the best in PvP games. I win some and I lose some. When I lose, I don’t claim the game is broken. I do my best to look at how I played and how my opponent played. What decks where played? What combination of cards appeared to be preferred with each deck. What were the strengths and weaknesses of my game play? What were the strengths and weaknesses of my opponents play style?

You can’t expect your opponent to play your game. Look for your opponent’s weakness and apply your strength against it. In military parlance, the first casualty when you encounter the enemy is your well prepared battleplan. In the words of Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Highway, “Improvise, adapt, and overcome.”

ZOS, you’ve made a great card game, which is thoroughly enjoyable. I enjoy the mental challenge of trying to come up with game winning combinations and strategies. They don’t always work and produce a winning game, but that is the enjoyable part of the challenge.

Unfortunately, it does seem like we are getting some balance changes, but the changes are for cards that don't really need to be changed. Luxury Exports, Currency Exchange, Grand Larceny, and Conquest can all be disgusting. Because these cards help with economy rather than only generating power, it's less obvious how good that they are, but they can create games that are just as easy or easier to win than Armory and Raid do.

If they are going to nerf certain strategies, then they should nerf the powerful cards from other strategies too.

I presume Conquest is a typo for House Marketplace or whatever?
