All NPCs should be killable.

There are a lot of annoying NPCs in the game that really should be killable.

'You have been looking for me everywhere, huh? Well, you found me *BoW*'

"Tests your wits and courage in a brand new card game, Ta.." *BoW*

".. but is well worth the visit" *BoW*..

"i have an important message for you.." *BoW*

It would be highly cathartic.

Nearly all NPCs were killable in the beginning, save guards. Then Zeni discovered how much some enjoy greifing by killing quest givers and other NPCs needed for quest stages

I read the post author's topic, then thought, but that would lead to exactly what you posted here. Thank you. Sad, but true.

I'm not sure they they feel the need to have quest starters follow you around shouting .Do they not trust that players are interested in the content to organically seek it out? I was doing a woodworking survey in the middle of nowhere it the rift and a male npc literally followed me around to an impressive distance from his spawn point. It was funny at first but it got annoying after trying to harvest and instead clicking talk over and ever. I would have killed him if I could tbh.

Killing the ToT NPC or Stuga would be satisfying for sure, but letting players kill all NPCs would create a very different game, and one most would not play (imagine not being able to access the bank, start or finish a quest, train your horse, vendor or purchase items, etc all because some angsty man-child decided to spend all day killing every NPC).

I do think they should implement some better quest NPC system to allow players to engage and dismiss or outright turn off all the starter spam that exists nowadays.

I couldn't imagine starting this game as a new player and by the time you get to the first settlement, have a log full of random quests from story chapters to the main story to side quests to guild lines to prologues to features like ToT and be totally confused.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

The only time I went on a full on murder spree in Skyrim was when I was after the high bounties, and bounties in every hold achievements, which were on temporary saves.

Also the werewolf and vampire lord perk achievements, but I was very careful to only kill unnamed NPCs in case I broke something.

Otherwise, yeah, I don't really see the appeal.

I think they should put side quests and prologues on a couple of different noticeboards directing the player to the quest giver who has been placed in out of the way towns and villages where nothing much else happens.

That way only main quest and zone story's are immediately visable.

Daggerfall (for instance) is a nightmare of quest markers at the moment.

obviously side quests local to small towns and villages etc can remainl as they are.

The way the expansion barkers literally bombard any new character with their slogans is frustrating and I dread to think what its like for new players. The first thing I did when starting a new character recently was to make sure I didn't spend too long in the starter towns but there is only so much you can avoid.

The High Isle companion quests do something similar as well and it made going across the landscape a bit of trial. How many times did I hear the "get away stupid thing" guy and the "how scandalous!" couple. It was like the devs didn't trust the player to seek out the quests themselves and had to be battered over the head with them.

Ideally we should be able to just turn of all expansion barkers. I get they're a cheap and easy way to introduce your new content but its obvious that a lot of players just find them obtrusive and confusing. There has to be a better way to start new expansion questlines than this.

Despite the slight irritation caused by barkers I've never felt to the need to murder the npcs for it. When I see piles of dead npcs in major cities I just sigh because it just makes a mess of the place. I just don't see the point of it. Allowing all npcs to be killed would just ruin the game for everyone else who doesn't find npc murder the pinnacle of entertainment. As well as, most likely, making the game non functional.

The only npc I've ever felt the urge to kill isn't even a quest-giver. When I was taking my crafter through Daggerfall, while doing the daily crafting writs before questing, the "Did you hear? Some guy saved King Casimir, I'd like to buy that hero an ale" guy just jumped up and down on my last nerve. I'd have loved the opportunity to take out a DB contract on him if my character couldn't kill him personally....

Maybe not all NPC's, but perhaps more of them than we currently can kill. There was a time that the bard in the Wayrest Undaunted enclave was killable (maybe all bards?), but I'd go there, cash in my daily, kill the bard and log out. It became very satisfying to do so. Then one day, the bard was immune to death. I was not a huge fan of that change.

There are enough NPCs that are individually instanced that I would think it would be possible to have your cake and BoW it too here. Although that might require quite a bit of work for them to implement across the board. Work that I'd much rather they spend on other things.

It'd be nice, but that's just masking the core issue: players are annoyed by NPCs.

We complained about Stuga, Nolus, and a few others for years, and they thankfully fixed some of them - only to launch the ToT NPC in key areas. I think in general, they overcompensate on NPC availability. Too many quest givers follow players, happen in multiple scenes, and are available outside of chronological order. It seems like our feedback on this goes largely unnoticed, or discarded.

They could expand the existing dialogue volume sliders. One for current quests, one for ambient dialogue, and another for would-be quest givers.

I tend to play with dialogue off these days because I get too irritated with the constant chatter.

People shouldn't have to fill their limited quests with starters to avoid listening to the dialogue. You know the limit is 25, right? And realize that all the quest starters we have would take most of that space?

People playing on alts might not want to do the quests again they've already done on one or more characters. Why should they have to do the quests again to shut up the quest givers?

What about times when it's a quest people just don't like, or don't want to do? Why should people have to accept the starter just to avoid being hounded over and over?

Maybe forcing people into doing things they don't want to avoid repetitive and annoying NPCs is just as annoying.

What else is there to even do at Tor Draioch other than Ember's quest? It's not exactly Vulkhel Guard. Castle Navirre is at least on the way to a vent and a delve.

The 'stupid thing' character is on the road so if you want to go through that road then you run into him. If you ignore him the first time round he will appear further down the road to do his routine again. I did the companion quests last when playing High Isle because I wasn't that interested so I had to ride my horse past that guy everytime I wanted to go down that road.

No, it will be borderline psychotic. Most NPCs (except the enemies from the storylines, delves and dungeons) should not be killed, for the sake of immersion.
