Thank you for the beautiful art direction

I've been posting a lot about U35 and the issues I have with it a lot lately, all negative. Wanted to say something positive, because of course there's a lot to be positive about.

I wanted to say thanks to those involved in the art direction of this game, and the ones who translate that direction into the world I walk through every day.

High Isle is *gorgeous* and is yet another gorgeous on top of the beauty that already exists in Tamriel.

The lovely detail like the thatched rooves with their organic forms and the grass/plants growing along the top in some places, the carved stone monuments all over, the wonderful palette that's close to the Gold Coast, but isn't, and the overall 'painterly' feel of the place as you wander out into the wilds of the Systres.

Just gorgeous - huge kudos. I am glad I bought it.

I actually love the whole game when it comes to art (combat.... not so much) - while I'm not really thrilled with Western Skyrim, I do love what they did with The Reach.

And the base game is still lovely. I've never really been a fan of Morrowind (yes, I played TES III when it released - as I have every TES game since Arena released) but all of the content since then has been artistically supreme. Well, even Morrowind is good art-wise; it's just not my thing, Dunmer and mushrooms.

Elsweyr - I've waited since 1994 to see Elsweyr, and it was AWESOME. And I love Blackwood (eh, not The Deadlands - I really don't have any use for daedra and their lands - but Fargrave is absolutely PRIMO). High Isle and Amenos though - a supreme realization of an area we've never seen before!

Now if the combat could just quit being massively messed up, so that I (and my 999+ ms ping) could really play.... I'd be a very happy person. I just have to do my best to not have to mess with combat.

I agree about how beautiful all the DLC zones are. Honestly I think the #1 thing ZOS could do to interest new people in the game would be to give all the original base zones a high-rez retexture, because those base zones are the first thing a new player will see, and if they don't like what they see, they might not continue to play.

The DLC zones are noticeably prettier than the base zones.

    Agree. I love Auridon tho.

As negative as the feel of U 35 is, I can honestly say that ZOS did a fine job when it comes to graphics. That vanilla graphics are low-res does not bother me at all.

Riding through the sandy Alik'r or volcanic Stonefalls, to name but a few, this is a sight to behold.

So, despite my criticism, GOOD JOB ZOS.

I'm so pleased you've started this thread and I completely agree!

I absolutely love the High Isle itself, just to 'be' in. Not sure why but it's more interesting to explore than Blackwood, which was fine but I didn't have the desire to explore the whole map in the same way. High Isle feels like there might be an interesting/exciting discovery in every corner. The architecture is gorgeous, as you say, and I just love the nautical areas and the druidic places!

And, oh my word, how amazing are the mobile ships and boats!? Seeing a ship glide across the background utterly changes how alive the world feels, and that little boat scooting around Gonfalon harbour! I know the cities/towns in Tamriel have npcs walking around, but they are quite slow, and the lack of incidental carts/mounts mean the world still seems quite static? I would love them to have more bustle (as Mirri would say.)

Imagine watching a stilt strider loping across the countryside in Morrowind, or some carts travelling in and out of Wayrest. I think it would dramatically improve the ambience. But prob make the game fall over. Nvm.

But yes, heartily agree, High Isle is a triumph, and I love running around in it. The main quest is great too!

Oh my gosh, YES!! The first time a ship sailed by I shrieked. And what a lovely touch with that singer on the small boat going under the walk bridge in Gonfalon Bay - so beautiful. I first heard him while on the beach looking at the large statue and watching the bigger boats go by :D

    Just amazing touches.
