Whitestrake - The Weedy Scardy Casual's Tale

Hello all o/

I hate PvP. I mean I really hate PvP. I am utterly crap at it, I panic, I am Prof. Deathy McDeathersson. However, every single guide I've watched/read about ESO says AP is a good way to make some gold, and I need gold to buy pretty things.

So this Whitestrake, I went to Cyrodiil. I ran about a bit in terrified solitude, looking at the map for flashpoints, rushing there and entirely missing the capture, or worse, finding myself in massive swathe of opposition with no sympathy for the solo idiot. And quite right too.

Then, and this is important, I joined a group. The people were jolly and kind, we ran around captured location after location, we ran scrolls across the countryside. I got told off once for not understanding siege weapon etiquette but that was resolved quickly and patiently when I explained I was a know-nothing noob.

I had a BRILLIANT brilliant time. I was still crap and I still died quite a lot, but I felt ok about it because I also did my bit, tried to pay attention and assist when I could, and other people in my group died too! It wasn't just me and no one shouted at me for being a fool. I made lots of AP and got a load of Pelinal Boxes and Rewards of the Worthy.

It has entirely broken my fear of Cyrodiil, and although I don't exactly have Emp in my sights, I'll def be taking part in Whitestrake from now on.

So, I competely understand if you hate PvP too, but I encourage other people like me to dare a toe dip in Whitestrake. It's not what you might imagine and it's a larf!

IMPORTANT edit:- Thank you so so much to the two groups I joined, who were so welcoming, helpful and importantly, good humoured. You changed my mind about PvP. You were fabulous people.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day! :)

P.S. thank you to the content creators who finally persuaded me to give it a go.

    Hey @Magenpie !

Really enjoyed reading this! I too am a bit of a scardy-cat when it comes to PvP and I totally understand where you're coming from. So happy you had a good experience - and I've been a bit inspired to give it a go myself!

Yep once you get into it and realize that dying is basically meaningless you have a ton of fun. IC carries consequences with Tel Var but it's no big deal, and it can be even faster to respawn back into the action.

Cyrodiil is what hooked me on this game way back in beta. The siege weapons, the castles, the feeling of being in an actual war, it was all so fun. IC is a more dangerous area but no less fun, just different.

I'm glad you had a good time! The first Midyear Mayhem I wound up leading a group by accident, and something that those players said has always stuck with me: "PVP sure is fun when you have an army."

I'm glad to hear that your groups treated you well and I hope you enjoy the rest of this and future Mayhem events!

I am so glad to see more players give PvP a go. It's really not that scary, but I can understand that going solo with 0 experience is a recipe for disaster.

All it takes is a few faction mates, and the experience can completely change! Enjoy the event.

This is exactly what happened to me years ago and I love to go to Cyrodil when I am in the right frame of mind. My internet and reflexes are crap so I will never be great at it, but it IS fun, especially when you have a great leader for your group! I particularly enjoy it during Mayhem because there are so many solos like me, more action and less of the meta-crowd. I have found most of the people in Cyrodil to be more welcoming then the dungeon groups!

I'm so pleased!! I had a quick thought, and I'm sure you know this anyway, but don't be shy about telling your group that you're new to the whole thing. To be honest, the general theme was, 'Don't worry, new bug, just come with us and have a good time!' but the siege weap misunderstanding did make me realise that it's kinder to your group to let them know, so they can give you tips if they need to.

Oh! And to find groups, just type LFG in /zone (I'm sure you know that too really) it did take me a while the second time, but it was obviously so worth it. Might be good to wait for evenings or the weekend for high volume of people to join. And other thought, suggest the new temp maps might be best - I was in Quagmire - I think the normal maps might be quite hard core and perhaps less patient? That's just a feeling tho, no evidence of it. Good luck!!

I really hope you meet friendly people like I did, and hope you have a brilliant time. :)

That's pretty neat story! As a pve main that's the only event I actually waiting for, sense of danger of IC and massive sieges of Cyrodiil are wonderful experiences when going with right mind for it. You lose nothing anyway, so what can stop you to try break out of a bubble once in a while.
