Help New Players?!?

ZOS has made it clear that they want the game to be accessible to new players. But how can that happen when those new players aren’t taught how to perform well?
I propose ZOS reworks the tutorials in the game, as well as a few different stats. Who agrees?
Plus, if the new players get better, ZOS can start focusing on making endgame and PvP better

    I suggest tutorials explaining the following;
    1. The purpose and function of WD/SD
    2. The purpose and function of Stam/Mag recovery
    2. The basic mechanics of critical hits and critical damage
    3. The meanings of Resistances and Penetration
    4. Managing Buff/Debuff/Damage over time uptime’s
    5. Light Attack Weaving
    6. Set Bonuses

I also propose the following changes
    1. Rephrase Critical rating to the actual critical chance value. The numbers we see on sets and abilities are confusing, especially to new players who can’t do the conversions
    2. Make enemy resistances visible somehow. This will allow players to better judge how much penetration they need for different fights. Remember, new players don’t know the 18200/9100 rule for dungeon/overland enemy resistances

It’s not even just new players who have a hard time decoding combat in this game. In an end-game vet trials guild, someone was new to being a brittleden and asking questions in guild chat about how application works. He couldn’t get it to proc. I explained you have to be holding an ice staff AND apply the chilled status effect to get minor brittle. They asked where to confirm this information (because someone else was providing conflicting information). So I googled about minor brittle and found that holding an ice staff is not mentioned as a requirement to apply it on any web site I checked. They tested it on a dummy to confirm. Then they asked if that meant they had to hold an ice staff on both bars. I said no, once procced, it will last for the standard duration even if you swap to a different weapon.

I know these things from experience. From reading the patch notes each patch. Should that be required to get the best group dps out of this game? Apparently, Zos thinks so. This is the real skill gap.

How do you introduce a damage-raising mechanic like minor brittle and not explain it to players in the game somehow? Of course you are going to get a wide chasm between people who have some of this knowledge and those who don’t.

I think light attacks shouldn't exist at all. The people who are complaining are only doing so because they had to spend endless time getting good at it, or cheat.

If I'm attacking something, why would I not use my actual physical weapon?

Did you open up the in-game help / handbook (F1)? Last time I checked status effects, that whole brittle stuff etc. were explained in the official in-game help.

you can join a guild who usually offers help for new players
In reality, they don't give a damn about you, you're just an extra in the crowd of players. Rude, but true.

But they do, and they're not going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

So... time spent and skills gained equals... something to be punished.

You don't see anything wrong with that? Interesting outlook.

It's also an easy way to be very dismissive of anyone who doesn't agree with you. Here, let me follow your example. "The people who are in favour of this are only in favour because they don't want to spend the time to better themselves."

Whether that statement, or yours, is true or false is meaningless in the face of actual, valid, legitimate criticisms, and only serves to be antagonistic, muddying up a discussion with noise.

In-game help is one of the most under-used and under-appreciated resources in the game, that it seems very few people even know exists.

I did check and didn't see anything. If you enter brittle in the search box, nothing comes up.

I did look under combat > status effects, and I could swear that info about brittle was not there. But even if it was, why does it not come up in a search?

So if I read this I would think that I needed to be using the frost staff the entire time for it to work. That's what wield means to me in this context. And I would have no idea what "0% chance for status effects with LA/HA attacks" would mean. Really this "help" wouldn't be very helpful to me. It seems like unless you already know the answer this information isn't all that useful.
