I figured out how to balance Oakensoul without ruining it

-while wearing this ring you cannot bar swap and your critical resistance is reduced by 1000.

Problem solved. PvPers have a significant downside while running it. PvEers aren't effected whatsoever.

Everyones happy. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

I'd be happier if ZOS never nerfed or balanced items and skills based on PvP ever again.

Perfect balance can never be achieved, so please stop asking for it! Look at how much of the game is already destroyed because of PvP 'balance'.

So only those who think something is too strong are complaining? By that logic there must be a lot of PvP players being okay with it but not saying anything. And there's not a single post of PvE players claiming that Oakensoul is outperforming a 2-bar-build so it's actually weaker than that.

In the end it's NPC's who can't say anything (and even if they could Oakensoul is dealing less damage than a 2-bar-build), PvE players who enjoy it and tell it in those threads and PvP players being okay with it but not saying anything VS PvP players complaining because they don't want to or can't adapt to a change of playstyle.

I'm not saying I agree with OP's suggestion, but decreased crit resistance would not affect PVE in anyway whatsoever since only players can crit.

Broakensoul uses named buffs though so they'd have to nerf all those buffs to make this suggested change :s

As indicated above, if you're playing a nightblade that is purely focused on ganking then it doesn't matter how much crit resistances you have, since you can just disappear.

IMO Oakensoul needs the Thrassian Stranglers treatment. Buffs from Oakensoul are lost if you remove Oakensoul, go invisible, or crouch.

In this way PvE isn't affected at all and gankers using this mythic will have to once again choose their targets wisely instead of being able to seemingly one shot just about anyone.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Fault lies with ZoS for not balancing PvE and PvP separately. It's not the PvPers that are "destroying" the game, it's that outdated concept. ZoS can balance things separately so the game engine / code can handle it, they just do it very rarely. For example Bahsei doesn't work in PvP, and current mist form doesn't work in PvE.

As for highly used mythic items like Oakensoul, they are destined for nerfs. Why? Because these are released in a very powerful state to tempt players to buy chapters, and when it's time for the next chapter, they WILL be nerfed. You need only look at the history of Thrassian Stranglers, Malacath's Ring, Pale Order Ring and the latest victim, Harpooners Kilt.

Nerfing powerful mythic items is a marketing strategy. No point in getting mad at PvP players for it.

I don't get why players are even asking for a nerf here... it seems the 'easy' to kill targets in PvP can now finally fight back, and PvP players do not like losing those 'easy' kills. It has been proven many times, oakensoul performs worse than a good two-bar player. So there is no issue at all.

Just disable mythics in PvP entirely, or we will run into this issue again and again on any new mythic release. Or ZOS should stop thinking about PvP entirely when creating new items, as PvP will always be unbalanced anyways. PvP is currently severely crippling item diversity in the game. (Edit: Or balance PvP and PvE separately.)

Here here! As a PvE player with a disdain for complicated rotations, the Oakensoul ring has changed my ESO life. I've been fearing serious nerfs to it that would ruing my build but simultaneously I can absolutely understand PvP player's frustrations. Your solution seems to be a perfect compromise.

    1. You would simply regain the buffs once you unstealth, they will not dissapear and you ahve to rebuild them like with thrassian stranglers, his proposal was onyl aimed at gankers though, would not change much for PvP either. That would not massively impact pve. the buffs do not impact thieving, crouching in quests usually do not involve killing.
    2. It is not the "easy to kill targets" that suddenly became overpowered or very hard to kill. Specific builds started to outperform many others and already good people became stronger. As you are a PvE player I am sure you like 1 hit mechanics . Not sure why you believe PvP players are inferior to Pve as in a PvP player never PvE and vice versa and want easy kills, it became easier to kill now for many. I understand you want to protect something you like, not sure why you choose to bash on other people for that. I am sure many players who play PvP also enjoy this mythic.
    3. Some people could say to disable mythics for PvE and only design them for PvP balance.
    4. Those tests are only for PvE Damage dealing you know, the ones that say 1 bar do not outperform 2bar.

There are probably many PvP players who think it is okay.
Many player who PvP are adapting, they use oakensoul ;) Imagine if you could not adapt in PvE and that every monster one hits you, would you play?

A bit sad you think in terms of PvP vs PvE.

I disagree. I use invisibility all the time in PvE land and I've never been in a scenario where the loss of buffs hindered my ability to do Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, or PvE related shenanigans. For instance, I can easily one-shot any NPC in PvE land with the Blade of Woe or Vampire Bite. In relation to other PvE content, the only time someone needs to crouch is in the March of Sacrifices dungeon, and even then all the buffs will return the second you stand up because as I said in my suggestion, the buffs are removed only while invisible or crouching.

None of the Oakensoul buffs improve stealth in any manner so your disagreement based on it affecting PvE stealth gameplay makes no sense, since the second you're revealed all your buffs will return.

The reason I made my suggestion is due to the damage buffs given by the set. Gain Major Berserk (10% damage increase), Major Brutality (20% weapon damage increase), Major Sorcery (20% spell damage increase), and Major Force (increase critical damage by 20%).

Now under normal circumstances, you would need to activate a skill, proc a set, use a potion, activate an ultimate, etc. to get access to these buffs. Now with Oakensoul you have them active 100% of the time. So even if you survive an Oakensoul gank, the ganker can simply reset the gank with one button and still have all their damage buffs active which doesn't allow for much time in terms of counterplay. Sure you can use a detect pot, but then the other buffs the set provides that improve survivability come into play. Logically one would think a high damage build would also be a glass cannon, but not in this case.

In relation to the rest of your comment,
the easy to kill targets are still easy to kill and that will never change
The problem is the lack of counterplay to being hit by so much buffed up damage even when wearing full impenetrable gear. Mythics in PvP are fine by the way. ZOS will ensure that so that they can make money off of the PvP population. With that being said all overpowered mythics end up being nerfed when the next new thing comes out, such is the ZOS way.

Good line of thinking, but as has been pointed out, not really affecting gankers.

IMO, they should just consolidate the 3 damage focused Major buffs - Berserk, Courage and Force - into a damage buff that only affects PvE enemies, like Major Slayer (except for overland, too).
No need to juggle conditional stances based on Battle Spirit when buffs like that exist. Makes it clear that this is predominantly a PvE assist mythic without just banning it from PvP.

Mythics have been the only selling point of chapters when it comes to PvP players since their introduction in Greymoor. ZOS has already said don't expect any new PvP content for the foreseeable future, so item sets are the only thing left to look forward to (of which mythics being arguably the most powerful and impactful). And sorry no, I don't consider Tales of Tribute PvP content, but props to anyone that enjoys that system.

On the other hand, cutting mythics from PvP would be a damn good way of telling that part of your player base that if they haven't already, maybe it's time to move on to something else.

IMO Oakensoul needs the Thrassian Stranglers treatment. Buffs from Oakensoul are lost if you remove Oakensoul, go invisible, or crouch.
PvE players also often use invisibility, and crouch is required by many PvE quests. Especially thieves guild, or thieving around. So your proposed change would massively impact PvE.

(Not directed to the above quote)
I don't get why players are even asking for a nerf here... it seems the 'easy' to kill targets in PvP can now finally fight back, and PvP players do not like losing those 'easy' kills. It has been proven many times, oakensoul performs worse than a good two-bar player. So there is no issue at all.

Not necessarily true at all. Buffs are severely different in PVP vs PVE. Buffs like major force, major heroism and major berserk result in way more toxic gameplay as those buffs are rare to find on a PvP build and they make some builds ridiculously overperform or do things they shouldn't be doing. Like ulti gen builds building around major heroism spamming meteor continously ping ponging u into the air continuously or having full penetration against players with Corrosive armor. Behaviors like this don't matter in PVE but for PVP it can completely destroy playstyles or make counterplay non-existent

    No-CP PvP (RW/BG) should be No-Proc & No-Mythics.

PvE & CP-PvP Proc/Mythic. No more nerfs, buff past nerfs to sets/items.

    Everyone has a playstyle choice.

Just leave the ring the way it is and have it not work at all in pvp.

Make it a pve only item. That’s what it was intended for anyways. To help people with various issues compete a little more in dungeons, arenas and maybe trials.

I specifically want a lower APM option for PvP. I like it, I'm not bad at it, but I have carpal tunnel syndrome. So after 20-30 minutes of intense battle, my wrists ache and my hands start cramping up. I want to stay in Cyrodiil for hours, have great fights and not be in pain.

Please stop with this "Disable it in PvP and everyone will be happy" crap, it's just not true.

in PVP DKs are pretty much unkillable and able to deal massive dmg without the ring -- yet somehow the ring is the root of all problems?

you can build a 2 bar DK, NB or necro and destroy anyone wearing the ring.

less constant complaining, and more build/rotation strategies are what's needed

The ring's fine and this community is on the verge of ruining another mythic item.

It is strong, yes. But it is NOT overpowered as you say. People die to a more skilled one and blame the ring. Keep in mind the ring does NOT make your character an A.I. controlled character. It doesn't play for you. Also losing half of your ability slots is perfectly fair in exchange of those buffs (most can be cast with class and common skills placed on your backbar).

I'd hate to say this. I really do, but some people deserve it: git gud.

What does the ring give in pvp that cannot be obtained in other ways? Nothing.

For that you lose 5 skills, a weapon line and an ult. Not worth complaining about in my book.
