Amenos Island

Does anybody else get the complete OPPOSITE impression of Amenos compared to what ZOS wanted? I think it's actually such a cool & beautiful island. Not the least bit spooky, fearful, etc lol. Partially has to do with how easy overland content is so nothing is really intimidating anymore ever since One Tamriel but even design-wise, it's just a scenic forest to me

My first impression there was, "wait, this is supposed to be a prison? Because I kind of want to live here."

I like Amenos. I know it's a prison, but hey, I don't have to mess with "that" if I don't want to. And I don't.

It's beautiful, but I think that's kinda part of the point. In nature, IRL, the more colorful something is in nature (usually animals that are not birds but it can extend to plants), the more likely it is to be deadly. The idea of the forest is that it's full of deadly stuff to the normal person, but obviously as the hero of tamriel, we'd be overtuned regardless.

It reminds me of the Escape from New York movie with Kurt Russell.

I don't really know what you were expecting its a remote-ish island the Breton's are using as a convenient prison, with the magic that turns the prisoners to dust if they leave they didn't need to bother with doing much to the island, just set up the prison boundaries put up a gate and shove the prisoners in to fend for themselves.

The other island right next to it is a holiday location why would you expect the next island over to be a haunted house or something, the only thing scary about it is the armed prisoners being loose to do what they want but that is little different to the countless bandits and cultists you practically trip over in nearly every other zone.

I think the problem is that the "safer" areas have so many hostile npcs near them that the "dangerous " areas don't really rate anything special.

I was really hoping there would be roaming gangs of prisoners, kinda like what they did with the Havocrel bosses in Deadlands.

Think Amenos is beautiful and they did a wonderful job with it. Wish the other "woods" of ESO where like Amenos.

    Stay safe :)

Yes I think its supposed to be more of a dense jungle but I really like the place. Amenos station is like the only part where they have a sort of penal colony and sending anyone outside the gates is like some form of punishment of survival.

I was amused when I learned Amenos was a "deadly prison island", mostly because "ameno" is Portuguese for bland or mild. I found the place quite pleasant and beautiful. Another reason it doesn't feel much like a prison is that there are so few prisoners around.

In Latin, amoenus means pleasant, beautiful or lovely :D I mean, it's a nice isle, vegetation-wise.

The Amenos Island feels like it should be the resort that nobles flock to.

Gonfalon Bay, on the other paw, can do with a bit more vibrant colours and a bit more hustle and bustle to convey that it’s a touristy town. In contrast, Belkarth with the current Zenithar event is more festive.

I don't mind pretty areas being deadly...in fact I prefer that! However, I think that Amenos would have benefited from actually being more dangerous. It should have had some different dangerous plants & animals (that we haven't seen before) in greater numbers- perhaps better hidden to surprise and take one off-guard, and perhaps some traps!

Amenos is the latest example of how the gameplay, world, and storytelling do not complement one another.

It’s a much prettier and denser forest than the base game “forest zones” like Grahtwood, Greenshade, etc.

i totally love amenos. i think the rest of high isle should be closer to it

i do think zos missed a big opportunity to put wandering bosses, a la deadlands style, for extra challenge. it would be such a cool, busy place with them, imo
