Storage Alts

Do people really make storage alts?

Do they buy them upgrades on bag space?

What do they store on these storage alts?

    Yes.
    Yes.
Crafting materials. (Enchanting, most notably, for me.)
Every time someone swears, it gets replaced with three asterisks. There's only one three-letter swear word that I know of. I read that in the place of every set of three asterisks. It makes for some amusing sentences.

yes I have 4 for storage and they also each have hirelings so it is a pain logging in and out and spreading the loot around ,but I do this mainly for crafting I stock pile then have a mass purge, when I have done then whole of the crafting then I wont bother with them just sell every thing

I did but now I have enough people in my little guild to use the guild bank so we are using that for our extra stuff and now I'm leveling all 8 of my characters.

I have eight characters. One is my crafter, one I play with my cousin, one is my main, one is a name-holder who hangs on to my extra pets and IE items, and the rest are mules. 60 slots each, and I have no reason to upgrade them currently.

I have one mule to hold armour and weapons with traits I don't know, one for provisioning materials, one for alchemy and enchanting runes/ingredients, and one for my tempers, trait stones, etc. I may have to improve my alch mule inventory space, but we will see; I may or may not do that.

Personally I leave my shared bank mostly empty, and then when I have a full inventory I spend ten minutes hopping to three to four characters and back to my main.

    Ok that's what I thought.

Do you guys think that storage alts impact the trade guilds? I mean if everyone had 2 alts in a 500 member guild then you are actually only trading to.....170 people, roughly?

No, each account joins a guild only once. Every character you log into has access to all your guilds with the same permissions settings.

Have you tried doing all crafts ?

Just the Provisioning ingredients rank 2 and above, those starting with the letters h up to letter z, take up about 50 spaces in my main bank. I then add all the clothing/leather/blacksmithing materials that can be transformed. These, in all, take up about 65 slots of my main bank.

My crafter takes off the main bank the other transformed mats (eg.: ingots while leaving the ore on my main bank).

One of my characters does Alchemy, so he grabs all alchemistic ingredients off the main bank to save space.

Another does Enchanting and his backpack is filled with only rune stones (no glyphs as I deconstruct them all in the desperate attempt to one day reach Enchanting 20).

I am surprised you even ask the question.

    Yes.
Crafting items mostly. I have four mules and three playing characters. I store some decent gear for my playing characters on my mules too. (The Warlock set, for example and good blue/purple drops)

I've given up on enchanting in favour of provisioning. I think trying to do both of those is a bit of a nightmare with the storage space limits.

I am surprised you even ask the question.

Yes I have maxed provisioning, which was kind of why I was asking. I wondered how other people store all the crap you need for it. I dump mine every time I go to a new area because the mats and recipes are different.

Does anyone think a mats tab in your bank would work? A tab that you could ONLY put crafting mats on??

I use alts that I am not currently playing to store things. Mostly crafting supplies for me and yes to the bag space because I play them.

At least you don't actually have to build a mule character with high Strength that can weighted down to point it can't move like a few MMOs. Asheron's Call we start a 100 STR character that would be pretty much good for nothing but holding stuff. Giving stuff to an Alt was an adventure as you had to drop the item on the ground the log off Mule then onto character you wanted to have the item. To store an item you reversed the process. Thankfully if you wanted to drop a group of items you could drop an entire pack. Each character had a main pack with with smaller pack in it for organizing item.

ESO really needs to add a bank account for each character plus leave the account bank account in place. Far too many crafting items for a game with so limited storage for a character.

I wouldn't be surprised; since it is possible however I personally find it to be to much effort. I like to have a clean and trim inventory before I begin questing while keeping crafting items in the bank.

Would you store the mats in your bank if you had a dedicated mats tab?

@Khandi a crafting tab would be nice but with the sheer number of materials in the game it would either be massive or it would be a band-aid on a gaping wound. This game has as many items as a regular TES game....except instead of being cups and plates and forks and other junk, it's all useable crafting materials.

Lulz....remember picking up the cup when you were trying to steal that soul stone :)

And yes I suppose you are right that the sheer number of mats may make it prohibitive.

Personally, I do like the crafting system in this game and the number of mats makes it feel like a TES game to me, insofar as the freedom and realism is there. I just wish I could drop 5k gold on a one-bedroom shack outside of Mournhold that has a bed, a kitchen table, and a half-dozen dirty barrels in the corner to store some of this stuff in. :P

My bank is little more than a swap area. My alt-mules are my permanent banks. In just one gathering session I can nearly max out my bank; whereupon, I must transfer items to the mules and crafters.

There really needs to be an add-on that allows selecting alts WITHIN your account and allowing for hot material transfer.

My designated mules have been upgraded to 70 slots each.

Where else would I store all my stolen cheese wheels and sweet rolls??

Amen. Having to transfer amongst mules is a horrendous time sink.

I bet if you shared with Sheogorath he'd give you a nice place in the Shivering Isles to store it.

It might cost you your soul, but such is the price of cheese.

@khandi I find it helps for the blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking to keep trait stones, tempers, and all but one type of racial stone on an alt. the. All you have to have in your inventory is stacks of the raw and refined materials. Alchemy ingredients are manageable if you just make potions every time you bank, and runes just take up an assload of space no matter which way you look at.

Because I have an alt for crafting I tend to sit on piles of material, which I don't necessarily need to do. If my main was crafting I would probably require less storage space because I would do crafting runs more than once a week. :P

The only thing I do regularly is break down armour and research traits, since those don't stack.

Don't collect and hoard the garbage and you don't need any storage alts.

Craftings: BS, Enchanting and provisioning (maxed). No alts, no space issue.

Storage Unit 3 = Crafting style resources as well as weapons/armor that need to be researched (2 bag upgrades)

I am planning on making a banker alt. I plan to make him as fat as I can, and to name him Sir Cumference if possible.

Was thinking of a Khajiit DK.

I was going to store the gems used for traits on him as well as the items used in improvement crafting.

With the left over space I was going to start collecting higher level crafting mats ahead of when I would need them. I have one alt (Templar) who is levelling faster than my other alts.

I don't use mules, I find the practice too labor intensive. For me, I'd much rather just vendor everything that the character I'm on doesn't need and worry about my alts when I play them.

However, that's not to say I won't throw a really nice item that would be perfect for an alt in the bank and log over for them to hold on to it, but it's gotta be pretty nice to be worth the effort.

For example, I picked up this legendary sword and board set from some guy selling it on /zone chat for a song, and I threw it on my level 3 DK tank that I don't have any plans of playing any time soon. That was worth the trouble.

My shared bank has got a ton of enchanting ingredients, simply because unlike the other crafts I've tried, I've found enchanting nearly impossible to level as I go. It's also got all the trait gems for crafting and the primal/barbaric/daedric style materials I've picked up from deconstructing. Oh, I also store all the upgrade materials for heavy, medium, and light armor in there as well.

A lot of people are asking for a crafting bank, well, that's exactly what I have. It also has plenty of room to shuffle the odd item worth saving for later to an alt that might use it.
