Crown price increase - why?

Crown packs on PS store have gone up a significant amount.

Why was this not indicated as going to happen by Zos? And what are the reasons?

Is the same for all? Has the PC or Xbox price increased?

(Just to note that increasing the price of virtual currency when people are already struggling to pay the bills is not a good look.)

Is it just regional? Prices are sometimes adjusted to reflect currency rate changes.

    Can't say I've noticed.

Maybe with a particular nation's current imperialist pretensions and resultant sanctions, the bean-counters are trying to make up the shortfall by shifting the burden onto non-imperialistic demographics?

I appreciate that prices can change. But a bit of advance notice would have been nice. And customer friendly.

Confirming. No change in 🇺🇸. Probably due to the exchange rate.

Hmm. I checked the UK Playstation Store and I'm not seeing an increase. It's £5.99 for 750 crowns, £10.99 for 1500 crowns, £18.99 for 3000 crowns and so on.

Is that what you're seeing as well?

On PC they put the UK prices up when the Brexit referendum caused the pound to crash against the dollar. Of course when it recovered a few weeks later ZOS didn't notice and we've been paying those prices ever since.

For whatever reason they've now decided to increase the Playstation prices to match.

    Quoted post has been removed.

It is actually. Both from a PR standpoint and from customers can actually buy their product standpoint. This is why a lot of companies have decreased the size of their products rather than purely raising the total price. They want to ensure people buy their Lucky Charms. So they increase the price per piece rather than the total. ESO could have done the same if they had wanted to by decreasing the number of crowns, but instead chose to raise price. It clearly didn't effect purchases if people have continued to buy with little complaint, so that was probably a perfectly fine move. From a pure business standpoint they made a good move. Regardless knowing how much people are willing to pay and walking a delicate line when increasing prices is something all businesses do.

There was some country where crowns were exceptionally cheap. Some people made accounts in that country via a VPN, got the crowns cheap, then resold them in game or gifted themselves stuff in their main account. Don't know which country it was. ZOS apparently fixed it. Presumably they're keeping a closer eye on currency fluctuations now.

Looking at Playstation and I don't see a change in price? 750, 1500, 3000, 5500, 14000, 21000. Same price they are on Steam and the Bethesda/ZOS Store page (which is the same price they've been for years). Where was the price change?

    Greetings all,

    5500 used to be £23.99 now £29.99.

Thats quite a big increase. Have checked Xbox as is same.

Guild members stating that just won’t buy as they used to.
Silly really as it encourages gold/crown trading and the chance of people getting ripped off.

I'm pretty sure that's always been £29.99 on xbox and then discounted with game pass. I might be wrong, but that's how I remember it.

    5500 used to be £23.99 now £29.99.
So I went back and you're absolutely right.

    Price list:
    750: £4.79 → 5.99
    1500: £8.99 → £10.99
    3000: £14.99 → £18.99
    5500: £23.99 → £29.99
    14000: £73.99 → £74.99
    21000: £109.99 → £109.99

The "good" news is that the highest end pack remains unchanged. So if you save for longer you're no worse off for the £109.99 and is now the best overall value at 190.93 crowns per Pound. However, that's where the good news ends. The bad news is that you can no longer make massive savings per crown by purchasing multiple packs of 5500 to more or less the same value of crowns with a whopping 229.26 crowns per Pound.

This seems like an oversight by Playstation as the pricing wasn't "balanced" before and now it is, at least when comparing to any of the other platforms.

According to this post back in 2016, all prices are standardised across all platforms and the only relevant factor is region/currency and that pricing is ultimately set by the retailer and, according to that post, you should ask Sony/Playstation why they changed their pricing.

Came here looking an explanation on why UK crowns have suddenly jumped up in price by £6 a pack of 5500 from £23.99 to £29.99... the only ZOS comment is a moderation.

Can we get an official response on this please?

Why has the UK been targeted for a massive crown increase price, when no other country has?... it cannot involve shipping costs or any type of over heads as it is a digital currency that has no bearing on physical reality and involves no overheads. Many of us have been playing since launch and the prices have always been the same in every country and every platform. Why now has the UK Playstation had a significant price increase on crown packs when no other country has?

Hoping this is a mistake, [snip]

Please @ZOS_GinaBruno can you look into this or find the appropriate ZOS staff to look into this and provide an official explanation?

    Thanks

More that prior to the UK leaving the EU they were required by EU law to effectively charge all EU citizens the same price as they were not allowed to geo-lock any given price within the EU to part of the EU only. In fact Zenimax got fined over EUR1.5million for trying to charge different prices for some bits of the EU. (Cases AT.40413; 40414; 40420; 40422; 40424)

Now that the UK is not part of the EU they are permitted to charge whatever they like in the UK irrespective of their EU pricing.

    Look at post #22.

    5500 for 23.99, if you bought 4 packs was 22000 for 95.96.
Considering that the biggest (theoretically cheapest) pack was 21000 for 109.99, the 23.99 price looks like an obvious error.

    750/4.99 = 156.6 crowns per pound
    1500/8.99 = 166.9
    3000/14.99 = 200.1
    5500/23.99 = 229.3
    14000/73.99 = 189.2
    21000/109.99 = 190.9

So, yeah - those middle two packs are clearly off the price/unit curve. Surprised we haven't seen complaints about the "slap in the face" to purchasers of the 14k & 21k packs. So, yeah, not "disgusting GREED". Just fixing an error.
