What is the state of an Orc right now. Returning to Tamriel after years.

Hello my fellow Orcs and Orc-minded people!

It's been a long long time since I've played this game but yesterday I finally created a new account on ps5 (Orc obviously). Last time I probably logged in to the game was about 3 years and it's been maybe like 5 years since I stopped playing actively. So I have few questions.

1. Lets start with the most important. Are Orcs still the superior race?
2. What DLC's/chapters are worth buying? I stopped playing approximately when Morrowind got released. I'm thinking of getting eso-plus and trying out some of the new content.
3. How's PvP? As mainly PvPer this intriques me. Is there any new PvP-content? How's the lag?
4. Does it still take ages to get the ability to create certain weapon/armor-sets? I don't mind leveling up the character, but if I recall right for some crafting stuff you had to do research(?) that took months.
5. Overall state of the game? Are there still good amount of players? etc.

Thanks for possible answers

    1. It's still tops for stam, but the gap is very small.
    2. Summerset for sure, but each one has high spots. Elswyer is good, Greymoor and Blackwood are ok. High Isle just came out.
    3. It's still the neglected stepchild of content. I'll let a PvPer talk about it
    4. Yes, research takes forever, but the stickerbook has overtaken crafted sets. There are only a few traits worth knowing first (divines, impen, sturdy, precise and infused)
    5. Game is generally healthy, assuming you ignore the premonitions of doom found on the boards.

    Hello my tusky friend!

Orcs still have amazing stamina and if you combine this with a fully upgraded Steed's Blessing perk for a 20% on foot (out of combat speed increase) we can run long and fast. So much so I won't even bother jumping on my mount if I'm going to be on and off a bit

I'd recommend Summerset, as it will give you access to jewellery crafting so even if you decide not to purchase it, make sure you pick up and complete the quest over in there while you have ESO+

Personally, I enjoyed Murkmire because it was a good look into the Argonians which really fleshed out their history. It's an interesting zone to me. The terrain navigation in Elswyer is a PITA but that's highly subjective. You can however earn a large, free player home there by completing a series of quests, so if that's something you would like, then it is worth having. I don't think you can see the entire home through the preview system. Areas open up via portals as you complete quests. There are youtube vids of it though you could check out

I'm finding High Isle very enjoyable so far, it doesn't seem to have any major downsides.

The lag in PvP isn't bad, I'm playing from OCE on NA and don't have significant issues. that said I'm not a dedicated PvPer so when it comes to class balance I can't offer much advice in the way of that. Imperial City PvP always seems active though at the times I'm in there and they do some solid events which are fun

Research still takes a long time but there are cash shop "instant research" scrolls if you really feel the need to go hard at it

Hope you decide to come back and have fun, the game always needs more Orc brothers and sisters!

Good to hear that Orcs are still going strong!

So there is jewellery crafting now? I assume atleast some BiS-jewellery are craftable now.

I never really got into housing, do you personally find it something to try out? One of my last things on my old account before I stopped playing, was buing the largest (at the time atleast) Orc house. Never decorated it or anything.

But yeah I will dedinitely come back!

No, the free house in in Elsweyr https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Hall_of_the_Lunar_Champion

@Ghettokid with housing, it is probably good to have at lease one larger house where you can store furnishing rather than clogging up your bank. With the Antiquities system, you come across a lot of bound furnishings you can't sell. I also use mine as free teleport points around the map. There is a much wider variety of furnishings now so something might appeal to you. I am a "Grand Master Crafter" though so I utilise the space a lot with my workbenches

Jewellery crafting is particularly expensive so mostly it is for upgrading any BiS accessories you have drop from end game content. Or if you're not too fussed about min/maxing you can sell the gold quality enhancement materials for a small fortune. It's worth levelling even if you have no intention of crafting much with it as you'll get a nice stockpile of sellable mats through daily writs. You can always keep an eye on the Golden Vendor in Cyrodiil on weekends as they sell different pieces of legendary quality jewellery on rotation and max your own set gear out that way.

And for anyone saying Orcs are ugly, Umar does not care.

Take no prisoners. Skip no meals.

Orc dps is behind dunmer slightly. The difference between the two is less than the difference between golding out gear or running meta sets, and clean skill rotation. A good player in good sets will do well with orc.

Dunmer has same weapon damage, but slightly more max stamina and more max magicka. There are other situational racial passives that can come out better for one or the other, but all things being equal dunmer will hit harder than orc on stam, and will get slightly more out of mag skills now that hybridisation is a thing.

After Morrowind, Summerset and Elsweyr are a must. Summerset has a decent story, jewellery crafting, a fun mini-trial, new skill line, and great aesthetic. Elsweyr has the necro class, dragons, a good trial, and also a pretty good story. Murkmire is average at best, dreary zone, meh story, and was in fact given as a free log-in reward. It would probably be bottom tier of the expansions. The Skyrim arc has mixed community views. The story is so-so, and seemed to mostly rely on nostalgia, especially with Blackreach. In it's favour is there is a LOT to explore in the underground area, and visually provides some of the most striking places in the game. The trial is okay, but the last boss is a pain in the ass health bar. The introduction of Antiquities with Western Skyrim tilt it towards a must, because so many mythic items became meta, or introduced some of the best furnishings in game. It's almost pay-to-win, and certainly felt that way at the time. Blackwood has companions, which frankly suck, a story slightly better than Skyrim, and a trial that some people love, some people hate. The zone is meh. Lots of empty spaces, and swamps. One of the public dungeons is really cool, the other one is Argonian.

I'd argue that ever since Skyrim that the zones have become more and more bland and empty, the textures more dull, the areas more barren, and the stories more cut and paste, obvious plot twists, with the same token irrepressibly cheerful sidekick played for comedic effect.

Deadlands and Fargrave are aesthetically a big improvement on the DLCs. The story is really whatever, but the ambience is strikingly different from everywhere else, and I'd recommend it on that alone.

The above is all subjective, and if you disagree, you are right.

Oh hey, i have a favo quote about Orcs

There are only two places where you may purchase food and lodging. One is proper and clean, frequented by decent citizens. The other is rude and dirty, and a meeting place for drunkards, thieves, and Orcs.

My favourite Orc quote is from Old Orc Sayings: Shields - One shield is priceless but two shields makes you look stupid.
