What’s your Oakensoul Lead Experience?

I posted a similar post about Kilt when Blackwood dropped which took me about 1.5 hours, half of which was farming shadowfen water hyacinth. I got oakensoul on the first day of console release, and boy was it much more difficult.

Here is my experience in order of difficulty:

1. Malabal Tor NPCs: got the lead after about 15 minutes of killing NPCs
2. Glenumbra blacksmith nodes: got the lead after about 25 minutes of farming nodes. Took me about 11-12 nodes to get it. (Pro tip, farm all nodes you seen they sometimes respawn as blacksmith nodes)
3. High isle vents: got it after 3 vents. Luckily the same vent spawned 3 times in a row. Took about 15 minutes.
4. Stormhaven Crab WB: my god this was a disaster. The WB dies within 3-4 seconds and you must be one of the top DPS to loot. I swapped to MagPlar and just Jesus Beamed as soon as the boss spawned. I got the lead after looting the 3rd time. Took about 45 minutes in total.
5. Murkmire safeboxes: the worst experience I had farming a lead in ESO, personally thought it was worse than pale order bad man hollow. Took about 4 hours. People are saying that you can get the lead by opening safeboxes that have already been picked. I think this is unlikely. I opened about 20 picked safeboxes. My best strategy was just staying at one location. People get discouraged and leave if the box doesn’t spawn in 5-10 min. I waited up to 30 minutes on some. I got the lead after picking my 6th box.

All in all a dreadful experience that took me over 5.5 hours.

How did you guys do?

I was drinking beers while getting oakensoul to make the experience less painful
Murkmire lockboxes took me 3 hours and 30 minutes
Titanclaw mudcrab boss took 3 hours
Glenumbra nodes took about 30 minutes
Malabal Tor NPCs took about 2 minutes, literally only killed like 5 npcs

Spend two days worth of playing time (approx 10 hours) camping strongboxes, then got the other 4 leads in an hour

My experience, not in any particular order.

    1. Malabal Tor NPCs: Second monster I killed dropped it.
    2. Glenumbra blacksmith nodes: Under 5 minutes, roughly 6-7 nodes in and I got this one.
    3. High isle vents: I had already completed the entire High Isle overland before trying to farm this, and hadn't yet obtained the lead. Once I started "farming" for it, it took around 5 vents.
    4. Stormhaven Crab WB: First time I killed it I got the lead. Very lucky.
    5. Murkmire safeboxes: 3 safeboxes, and one thieves trove in, and I got it. It should be noted I farmed this one after the patch that increased chances.

I haven't tried out the ring yet, but my Wife and I both made dedicated builds to do so. Character names are "Oakenswole" and Oakenswoles." lol

    For me:

High Isle vents- about 2 vents
Malabal Tor- 15 minutes or so
Glenumbra blacksmith nodes- ugh, about one hour...this was as obnoxious as the crab boss
Stormhaven Titenclaw boss- fought boss around 6 or 7 times before it dropped
Murkmire safebox dropped the lead after first box that I actually unlocked manually...this was after auto looting/failing 3 others. Don't Auto loot!

    For me:

High isle vents: Second try, 20 mins maybe
Malabal Tor: 20 mins farming different mobs around
Glenumbra blacksmith nodes: 2 minutes as I used a survey instead ore farming
Stormhaven Titanclaw boss: Third try maybe 20 min, luckily enough DPS
Murkmire safebox: First try on box just when first one said in forums it drops there and everything was empty. Thank god for this xD

Made some videos too showing how to get those leads easily, e.a. if you dont have enough DPS to get lead from Titanclaw or that survey works well in Glenumbra (same name on YT)

Malabal tor. One lap of the Velyn Harbor beach mudcrabs got me the lead.
    Glenumbra..about an hour.
High Isle vents ..got it while doing dailies.
Murkmire..45 minutes of camping a lock box right after latest patch.
    Stormhaven. First boss kill.
Make sure you have ulti up and dump it immediately.

Got the first 4 in 2-3 hours, haven't tried the lockbox yet. I wish they would put ESO back on Xbox Cloud Gaming so I could camp lockboxes at work...

    - First one I got was safeboxes. I waited a few days and got it last week. Logged on a character I had stationed at a safebox, there was nobody there, unlocked it and got it. Took two attempts total though as I did unlock one a few days prior and didn't get it.

    - Second was crab boss. It dropped it on first kill, and at that point it was just two of us so no problem.

    - High Isle vents were next and it took 3 vents

    - Malabal Tor was next and took a little over an hour or so. This was the most frustrating IMO.

    - Blacksmith nodes 30-45 minutes.

Malabal Tor was the most frustrating. So many mobs killed for like an hour. Blacksmithing nodes was a bit less frustrating only because I got lucky and got it in about half the time it took for Malabal Tor.

I didn't even bother farming any of the leads until a few days had passed and the big rush for safeboxes and the crab boss subsided. I'm glad I did.

Today I farmed all 5 leads (so after they increased drop chance for the Murkmire lead).

Malabal Tor: About 20 minutes of farming.
Murkmire: The 4th or 5th safebox I found. It was the 3rd one I opened by myself. Finding safeboxes was obviously the tricky part but I think it took me about half an hour.
    Glenumbra: About 10-15 minutes.
Stormhaven: 2nd time I killed the crab boss.
    High Isle: 2nd volcano completed.

I think the entire process from farming the first lead to having all parts dug up cost me about 2 hours.

I got all leads pretty quickly, even the Murkmire safebox one (and before the second source was introduced).

My Waterloo is the lead from chests in the Vile Manse in Reaper's March for Mora's Whisper. Spend already several hours there opening a ton of chests, but no lead yet.

Also the lead from Psijic portals in Southern Elsweyr for that dragon-themed mythic is a terrible one.

    On console

Glenumbra - not to bad. About 30 minutes
Vents - not bad. Took about 7 to get it
Malabal Tor - not bad. 20 minutes killing things non stop
Titanclaw- Friggen nightmare. About 50 people camping in the spot it spawns and 1/2 with pets. When they all attack, it went into slow motion. Took about 15 tries. About 6 I actually got loot.
Murkmire - 4 hours. Opened 9 strong boxes. still don’t have lead - probably the worst experience I have had on ESO. Ever. Sad part is it was a known Issue 2 weeks before console release and nothing happened. So 2 weeks of frustrated PC players and now 2 weeks of frustrated console players

Ps. I have never seen so much hate in chat than I saw in murkmire. It was horrible experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if people got banned from the talk that was on there.

Worst for me was actually Malabal Tor because I was farming in the public dungeon which I guess doesn't count? I found a place in overland after a few days and got it pretty quick there. For the Glenumbra nodes, I got it pretty much immediately through a blacksmithing survey. Crab wasn't bad, only took a few spawns. I refused to try farming Murkmire unless I could find a box with no-one around... and after a few days I did, got the lead on my 3rd or 4th box.

Volcanic vents was the worst one for me, 32 vents were completed before getting.

Murkmire safebox I got last week on first try at around 11am ET. Went into a house in Lilmoth, safebox was there and noone else was around.

Stormhaven world boss was also first attempt, and there were 10-12 people there farming it.

The others were obtained in just a short time, so can't recall.

Took me an hour to get the four from base game areas , haven’t bought high isle yet to get the last one.

    Lockbox 2nd one I picked.
    Mining mode 1st one
    6 horvers
    2 wb kills

Almost guaranteed that the vents will my downfall.

I logged in right at launch which happened to be 15 minutes before it was supposed to be on PS5 had a character camped at a lockbox location and it was there waiting for me. Went to work and came home and got everything else besides crab which I got thismorning before work all and all a very painless experience for me mostly because I had a game plan based off of PC folks complaints and was able to execute it better than expected.

    I have a question - is there a cool-down on getting leads?

I have done a lot of vents and I have killed half the population of Malabal-Tor several times and got zip.

Just wondering if it’s just my usual luck.

I wish a better in-game guide for what we could get was available. I see them drop regularly, but I find figuring out what I don't have more annoying, so I have stopped trying much.

I know some data is in the system, but having to go to an external site to find the lead location is not productive.

No cooldown, no. I got some leads in fairly quick succession so it's just RNG doing its usual work.

    Glenumbra: ~1.5 hours
    Malabal Tor: ~1 hour
Campmire: Probably ~3 hours total. Did it while I had something else to do between spawns.
    Stormhaven: 3rd spawn
High Isle Vents: 4th try IIRC
