Recent game account bans

It makes me feel good to finally see something from ZOS showing they are trying to combat cheating but what I want to know is what is the real penalty for getting caught cheating? is what you are doing really a deterrent?
  1. Do they get to come back after so many days (5, 10, 30, 90 days) and just try again? That's not much of a deterrent.
  2. Do you delete the account and let them come back after enough time has passed but they have to start over (still not much of a deterrent for cheaters)?
  3. Do you try to prevent them from ever playing the game again by banning a mac address? I recall when Microsoft was doing this when the first-gen Xbox was released and they even advertised that at the beginning and why you should switch to them because they take cheating seriously... was a very sad day when they stopped doing that.
  4. Do you work with other platforms like Sony and Microsoft to report this player was banned from your service for cheating because they also say it's a violation of their terms and services.

The reason why I would like to know this is I really don't know if I want to keep buying your content let alone playing it anymore. I am not the only one who thinks like this, I have many conversations with lots of people (not just in this game) who feel the same way. I am even to the point where I think I don't even want my PS5 anymore as even sony does not want to comment on the ever-growing issue of cheating. If I am going to play with cheaters then ill go back to PC where graphics and content releases are on average better...

I've been on Xbox now for about a year I think and played for 5 years on PS before that and don't recall ever coming across a cheater. I've never played on PC so I can't speak for them but on console the bot infestation is a much much bigger problem than cheaters imo.

Irish basically summed up what I was gonna say.

If it's the bots harvesting nodes you're worried about it doesn't matter if they give them short or long bans. They just make new accounts. Just try and ignore them when you have to go to those places man.

And if you're in to farming nodes get a good route in a dlc area, they're 100% bot free. I have one in Hews Bane, happy to share it- I'm pretty much retired from farming.

Yes, the bots are taking almost all blacksmithing materials in the starter zones and much of the other materials as well. When a lead for something involved nodes in a starter area I usually just don't bother with it. You cannot beat the bots.

No it has nothing to do with bots but everything to do with people running cheats, scripts, and programable devices. I have done an extensive deep dive in to learning about the cheating over a year ago, I have had players offer to bring me in to their groups to show me how its done and whats needed. I have been able to get my self (and its not easy unless you spend a few hundred dollars) to get in to the forms and discord groups and see whats going on. I have watched a player instant destory mobs in this game that should have taken at best a few minutes of combat to do, this player shared what he was doing and when I said its cheating I was quickly kicked from the guild, and blocked in the game from them.

    1. I dont know if I can name other games on here with out breaking some rule but its a very popular FPS and they announced that over 500k accounts world wide were banned for cheating.
    2. ESO just annouced they band 400 accounts for cheating
    3. Cheating is a multi billion dollor industry world wide.
    4. One thing I have picked up on with the cheating forums is they encourge their members to push the narrative cheating does not exist, try not to be too obvios about it, take advantage of companies not commenting on the cheating going on in their games.

Its not as simple as going out and reading a few headlines and the cheating industry has gotten much smarter about how they conduct them selves. for programable devices they encourage only sharing scripts with well known friends to reduce how offten you may have to adjust them. you really have to spend time and it will become much more easy to spot cheaters...

but this was not what this post was for, I am looking to find out how ZOS is dealing with cheaters and if its anything meaningful. It will determin where I go from here is all.

If you think you have insider information that you got from cheating forums and cheating guilds, then maybe you should be submitting that information in detail directly to ZOS instead of posting some questions in these forums.

I know for #2 they don't delete accounts and I hope they don't and I hope one day I get access again

My banned account is doomed to wander stage 2 of Maelstrom Arena and has been for 9 months

#3 They WANT you to spend more money on buying the game again, what I had to do and they said they didn't care

Pushing the narrative that cheating doesn’t exist?

I’ve played on PS NA since console launch.... I have seen plenty of bots and even multi-boxing but that’s the extent of it. In all the time I’ve played I’ve never come across cheaters or at least I haven’t noticed it if I have.

This is not to deny that it exists though. There’s vids that can be found on youtube for PC where players are flying and have shooting star spam.

We all know bots exist. Espessally anyone here on PC the first 6 months after game went live. Lol!
But what OP is talking about is players using things like Miats in PVP and abusing coding.
Here is the article from Jess about it.

it's actually quite easy to check if there are working cheats or not, if you are willing to invest some money.
make a burner email and a throwaway account, use google search for about 10 minutes, but the programs you find and use them in game.
half of them actually work, the other half seems outdated.
i think the fact that you see them very rarely is mostly due to the fact, that the majority of the eso playerbase is very casual and does not care at all, since they are neither hard to find, nor expensive.

    1. Length of the ban depends on the severity of the actions. Zenimax has mentioned this with previous bans. Some are permanent.
    2. Depends on what they did and how far they took it if it is permanent or not.
    3. While there are ways Zenimax can try to prevent someone from buying another copy of the game, it is not very effective. Fixing the code being exploited or using traps to detect behavior prevents doing the same thing again.
    4. Zenimax would not report cheaters to other companies as it puts them in legal jeopardy and it is rather pointless since nothing could come of it. Zenimax does not prove anyone cheated in the eyes of the law so someone could sue them, and likely win, for defamation character and violation of privacy laws.

The most ZOS have said in the past when dealing with e.g. exploiters is that the punishment given varies according to the severity of an offence and the record on the account.

That or, I imagine, other disciplinary offences. First offence, short suspension. Account riddled with warnings and suspensions - permaban! As it should be. Everyone deserves a second chance, which is why they allow a banned account to be replaced with a new account that starts from scratch. Plus it's very difficult to ban IP/mac addresses for one person only and it's pretty ineffective anyway, so realistically they can't stop banned players from opening new accounts.

I have spent plenty of time in Cyrodiil. I used to level my characters in Cyrodiil and doing battlegrounds. Never once came across someone I suspected of cheating. If cheating is so rampant on console in Cyrodiil where are all the forum posts? Where are all the YouTube videos showing these cheaters? I just searched YouTube for ESO cheaters and the most recent video is from like 5 months ago and appeared to be on PC not console.
Are there cheaters in ESO? Probably so. It's possible we play against cheaters but are never aware of it. I also believe ZOS should jump on cheaters with both feet.
I only posted here because OP said he was considering leaving the PS5 platform and I merely wanted to offer my experiences in regards to cheaters in ESO.
And to be clear I'm talking strictly console. I have never played on PC and can't comment about what goes on there.

I expect all three platforms have the ability to easily grab game video. It is best to take such video and report such actions to Zenimax, letting them know you have the goods to prove this is happening.

I am sorry, but do you honestly think that ZOS will respond to this? They can't even let people know that they run into a problem during maintenance and how long it will take them to fix it in a fashionable manner. More importantly, would you reveal your security measures on a public board?
