Remove the selling functionality from guild traders and give them gameplay buffs

I would propose that there just be a central marketboard in towns and whatnot. And in exchange give guild trader NPCs perks or buffs to encourage guilds to still bid on them. Like +x% chance to get motifs in trials, another could offer -100% teleport costs for members, another could offer damage up buffs or a chance to increase writ voucher rewards. The possibilities are limitless. And the it would still serve as a gold sink because guilds would be competing to offer the most attractive buffs/perks/benefits to their members. It would also encourage guilds who are not trader guilds to make an effort to secure a "trader" (they'd need a new name after this ). Also it would give buyers access to more items as they're now browsing every single listing instead of the ones in a specific zone. It would also help sellers in smaller guilds that currently don't have the most visible trader get their stuff sold.
What are your thoughts?

(Honest and sincere question) The only MMO I have ever played is ESO so I have never seen a global auction house in action.

I don't care about the auction house part of it tbh. But it's a knock-on effect so I mentioned it. The issue is that guild traders right now do nothing except restore a locked away function - selling items. So why not make them be a net positive for the gameplay experience as opposed to just using them as a tool to bring players out of a net negative feature state? The groundwork for it is already half way there.

The first aspect is the same developers that decided to go with a trading system that also offered a social aspect, and one that was decentralized, are still running this game. They do not seem interested in ditching their design since it has served the game well for years.

The second aspect is those developers can offer guild perks without changing anything else in the game.

The third thing, where will the guild get those funds to pay for the perks. Oh, yea, every guild will now have to charge their members a substantial fee. I have never paid a fee to be in a trading guild, or any guild.

The fourth thing, just look at games that have guild perks that have to be purchased every week and inflation is through the roof in those games. So the gold sink is meaningless.

The auction house makes trading easier. This comes with benefits like making it easier to find the items you want. But it also makes it easier for big traders to flip everything constantly, which can drive prices up quite a bit.

The easier ability to flip items is one reason (of many) of why items are generally more expensive on PC. There are bigger traders on consoles as well but it's harder for them to snap everything up that's cheap due to it being very time consuming to check smaller traders that may or may not have better deals.

this kind of depends on how its set up

the auction house they had in city of heroes was pretty nice, you couldnt see what prices items were listed for, just the 5 most recent sales of an item, buying an item just put a "buy order" on the item for the price you want, if there are listings equal or lower to your buy price, that is how much you paid for it

i was absolutely lazy and always listed items for sale for 1 influence (currency in that game), but most of the time i still sold it for roughly what the the last 5 were selling at

now there were still flippers there, some people listed buy orders for very low and sometimes got lucky and then relisted for a higher minimum price, other people used the auction house as extra storage and listed something for much much higher than the item was worth to store more currency lol
    plays PC/NA

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (fully filled out with current game), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

in progress: acquiring mundus stones (currently only have the thief)

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

Here's an example of how removing sales function from trade guilds would gut an entire demographic of the game:

    New PC NA Sales Record?!?!

They're positively glowing in that thread - totally into the whole trade game, their collective (guild) achievement and the numbers involved.

It's not my 'end-game' but I know many players for whom trading is and the unique guild trader system offered by eso is the main attraction for them in the game.

Because the traders themselves arent as much of an issue since with each suscessive expansion more traders are added to the point even tiny guilds can afford traders now.

    @Comrade_Ogilvy
Spoken well but even you gotta admit there could be some.....adjustments made. For example, I personally think ZOS should move the traders in say Marbruk or Shornhelm closer to the wayshrine like the Bandaari Trading post or Rahwl Kha. Also move all the random roadside traders to the major hub with the rest of the traders

There is nothing wrong with the Global AH. Whenever this topic comes up you have the people who control the market in these rich guilds try to shoot anything down that takes gold away from them. This system was put in place to curb inflation and it failed. ZOS knows and won't even talk about it. I have tried to get many friends to try ESO out. Some do but when they see the guild trader system they laugh at it and quit. I'm just thankful I have 3 characters and all the gear they need for my play style. I stay away from the guild traders as much as I can now. I do like to look to see how bad it's getting now. ZOS has no idea how much of a big negative this system gives the game.

But the system didn't fail though. Claiming it did is forgetting that the system is functioning just fine, without inflation, on two of the 3 platforms. And, that coincidentally, the 2 platforms that do not have inflation issues, also do not have addons that act like de-facto auction houses by compiling sales and listings information across the server.

Xbox crown to gold ratio is still in the 100/1 range, and has been pretty much in that same spot since crown gifting launched. Our gold plating is still in the 80-100K gold per plate range, and has only mildly fluctuated from there (to like 120K during a few weeks after a patch) since the jewelry crafting launched.

We do not have an inflation problem on console. Which is evidence that the actual in game trading system is not, in any way, responsible for in game inflation.

Absolutely. In fact, I would go so far as to say it's turned me off of global auction systems in general. Every other MMO I played had one in some form, and none of them had prices as stable as console ESO. Not a one. Everyone can buy what they need on console at prices that value their time. And players that put in the work can be rich relative to the rest of playerbase and splash out on nice things. That to me is a good market.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

I'd rather see the tax raised from 7% to 70% as a proper gold sink. 5% for the guild, 65% gone forever. (no listing price).

I can understand that global auction houses don't work as a way to balance economies, but I also disagree that ESO found a good system by sticking to such a terribly low tax.

I believe someone suggested a graduated tax, which would be more effective since taking gold off the rich stops them purchasing items for re-sale (flipping makes a few people a LOT of money, which doesn't help the economy).

I'd love to see 5% tax on everything going to the guild, with:
5% vanishing tax up to 1k
    10% up to 10k
    25% up to 100k
    45% up to 1 million
    65% over 1 million

I know it wont happen, but I also think flipping is never taken into account when it comes to sales tax. Sure it'd mean a lot of people sell stuff in zone chat, but eh with the limited listings they do already.

As long as they introduce a feature that limits buying/selling I'm good with a central board. If you buy an item it should be account bound, non tradable.

Would fix much of the issues we have where the economy is just fueled by people buying just to resell.

This will decrease gold income to all traders but it won't have the outcome you desire. Who do you think will be able to eat the reduced profits, maintain prime trader locations and keep earning more gold than the casual player will see throughout their entire time in the game?

Another global auction house request in disguise?

    No thanks.

What is the problem with a global auction house?
(Honest and sincere question) The only MMO I have ever played is ESO so I have never seen a global auction house in action.

I would like a Trade or Auction housed of some sort... more and more we have to deal with groups of guild players doing mass harvest of chest and other mats in areas...if you get in their way you get told to stop looting "Their" mats and chests..it's ridiculous.

If you want to buy the items you have to spend a stupid amount at the Trade Wagon So it's pay the stupid price or get harassed by the farmers

This economy is more borked than any other economy in MMO's...if they are going to keep this nonsense up at least instance chests and mats.

If players have the funds and time to control the market across more than 200 traders what makes you think they wouldn't be able to do it with one location?
The trade system works. The economy is strong and vibrant. It flows with supply and demand. Players can get everything they need and much of what they want.
The game is doing well also. More often than not when I go into a delve even in the older zones I run into at least one other player. An entire sub community is built around the unique trading system ESO offers. Players at all levels can participate as much or as little as they wish.
Your friends are missing out on a really fun game because they don't like an aspect of the game that would have zero impact on their play if they didn't wish to participate.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

They just don'f like playing eso lol, don't tell me you actually believe them thinking 'the game is good, but since I need to walk a few more steps to buy some stuff, I quit.'

Somehow whenever this topic comes up one sees what I would call conspiracy theories. Is there any real evidence of these cabals that control the games economy? Links and/or videos with actual proof would be useful in this case.

The present system works well and has many participants. It is not broken and does not need fixing.

    No.

    1) auction house will never happen in this game, let it go. This dumpster fire of a system is too ingrained into the game. (and the pro traders are too happy with how it hands them control of the economy, they'd never let it go)

    2) guilds don't need yet more advantages

Please remember that while Consoles dont have addons they have army of bots that keep the most popular materials cheap. I wouldnt call that a "healthy" economy...

Pretty much every online game has someone cheating, and botting is very common in MMOs. Doesn't make it an unhealthy economy. It's does what it should do. Makes things affordable for the new and casual player, while simultaneously rewarding players who have put in the effort to be good at trading with the expendable moolah to buy everything their could want. A healthy economy makes things good for both groups and console has things good for both groups.

So you want us to pay a significant fee to are guilds to secure a trader we would no longer need for buffs with questionable value to each individual.

While the sales taxes that once went to are guilds would now all go to the void.

All your suggestion would do, is turn every trade guild into a social guild in the best case in the worst case they would all lose at least a quarter maybe even half their members or end up disbanded. If your suggestion happened I would probably ditch most of my guilds and keep the ones with the best laid out craft halls and people I know to do stuff with.

Meanwhile the trader bids would drop like a rock vastly reducing the amount of gold that gets deleted each week and the re sellers with tens or hundreds of millions of gold would have the easiest time imaginable cornering the market, setting whatever price they feel like, while keeping more of their profits than ever before, since the trader bid would now be optional for trading.
