A new chapter next year: Buy it?

We have already received certain emotions from the High Islands. We have experience of passing previous chapters. Are we ready to entrust our expectations to the creators of the world of Elder Scrolls?

The story is not engaging in any way. Im still not sure why im on that island.
The card game is weird and boring. Elder scrolls already have a good card game for those that want to play. Why on earth did anyone thing a cardgame would be a good idea here.

Its such a weak launch. There is nothing intresting here at all. And the houses, furnitures and motifs are of course being held back as usual. Its of course a desperate attempt to prolong the game so you have to revisit things later. But by god its such a lame underwhelming launch.
If i can endure the inane prattle in chat, I can survive your assuredly erudite eluciations. Proceed.

It always depends what new features are being offered, Blackwood and High Isles companions are what drew me to pre-purchasing them. Greymoor on the other hand I put off until it was on sale as I didn't care much for Scrying/Excavation, I still don't as I find the activity very boring even though Mythic items come from doing it.

I'd never buy a product without knowing what it is, even an expansion for a game I'm already playing. I want to know what the new expansion is and what's included before making a decision.

Long-term I will probably get it one way or another (I've got all the previous ones), but that might mean waiting until it's in the crown store and discounted. There's also the possibility they could make an expansion I don't want at all and then I'll skip it entirely.

Yes, and regardless of the High Isle experience. I simply buy each new chapter - it's my life in the world of Elder Scrolls.

I will buy next year's chapter if, and only if, it's the Telvanni Penninsula.

Otherwise I'll wait till it goes on sale or becomes available for ESO+. I can't really justify paying $60 for a game expansion, especially one set in a corner of Tamriel I have no vested interest in, and ESO has already taken us to most of those places.

Don't base my decisions around "innovations", so I can't pick the last one. But I can't say Yes or No until we actually learn something about it. Plus, I haven't bought High Isle yet (I don't buy chapters every year).

So, yeah - can't say until we know more something. It's pretty premature to ask this question.

I'll have to see what's on offer. If it's like High Isle (smallish zone with a new feature that I can take or leave), I'll wait for a sale or until it goes into ESO+. Otherwise, I'll probably buy it.

What ZOS needs to do to get me to buy another chapter:
    1. Actually fix performance
    2. Provide more value for my money than the competition (which isn't just MMOs)
    3. Give Bosmer back their stealth radius
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

The content, as advertised as well as seeing what PC is currently experiencing, has me not buying it at all. I'll get it through ESO+, and by the time I get there I won't have missed anything. This chapter is a noticeable dip in a gradual decline.
Which ironically gives them the opportunity to look awesome if/when they rebound. So I still have some hope, but gone is the anticipation and excitement.

People who actually play the game and are interested in new content and raids will buy it. Those with less interest in ESO or play more casually will not.

This is how it happens every year and we don’t need a poll to tell us that.

Interesting that the small number of results so far indicate only a small percentage feel that they had a negative experience with this expansion.

We also have to wonder how many of those and of the maybe option actually buy chapters.

I've been lost in Tamriel since Elder Scrolls III Morrowind came out. It will take a lot more than one slightly toned down chapter because of a pandemic coupled with the need to redo the foundational coding of the servers to pull me out. Plus, I seriously love the characters in High Isle and look forward to completing the rest of the story for the Legacy of the Bretons.

I am not interested at all in new areas being created with new content while the existing map has so many open areas for which content can be created.

Also new areas can be created with much more exciting possibilities, such as bringing back a secret way of entering the lost Dwarven civilization or the lands of the Skyrim Nord ancestors etc...

Perhaps a whole new area of possibilities can be created by introducing time portals, an alternative version of the Imperial City etc. can be visited this way.

There are so many closed houses in the old places...lots of empty seats. Indeed, they could breathe life into them so that players would return to the beginning of the path and see how everything was enriched with new quests and color saturation

If I buy it, it won't be for the quest/story/setting. Been burned to many times.

Here's hoping we'll get a proper new system next year. As much as I like the card game, it's just not enough.

    At this stage probably not.

I was a bit disappointed by High Isle and the general projections for what the next story will be are either a Redguard area or a Telvanni area.

Thus far, the Redguard areas have been some of my least favorite parts of the game so I'm not really interested in more.

I think a Telvanni area could be interesting in theory but, in practice it'd likely be too culturally uncomfortable for the writers to actually produce in an interesting fashion and it would also be a challenge to mesh with some of the foundations they've built for the game when it comes to the recognition/power of your character as well as the moral views of the companions.

As a result, I doubt I'd buy either one at this stage.

Same here. I hadn't expected to be drawn in by the card game, but so far I'm enjoying it a great deal and think it's been very well designed. I can't speak about the quests and overall storyline yet, because I haven't completed them.

I haven't bought a chapter at full price since the Elsweyr chapter, and I probably won't buy any more until the quality goes back up to at least Elsweyr or hopefully Wrothgar. Summerset was the pinnacle of chapter releases, but it would seem that most of the talent within ZoS has left for something else at this point so aiming for that amount of value with a chapter these days doesn't seem as feasible anymore. Not even the loremaster stayed around for long after Summerset, and he helped write the amazing Clockwork City stuff which was pretty damn cool.

The question is not 'if' but 'when'.
I'll eventually want to play the new quests, but depending on how much gameplay innovation it'll bring, I might get it earlier than I'd otherwise.
