"Nudge" feature for Tales of Tribute

So, I am playing with another player right now, and I STG this guy is sitting on each hand for at least 15-20 minutes. Literally, we've been playing for about an hour and fifteen minutes, and we're sitting at around 20 points each, and I play my cards in about two minutes or less. I am genuinely starting to think that he is slowwalking it on purpose to try to get me to concede the game.

Worst of all, I can't whisper him in game without triggering a concession. I don't think these games need to be timed, and I can see where they might not want an in-game chat window that could be abused with trash talk, but for Pete's sake, this is ridiculous. At least if we had some sort of "nudge" feature that could be used after, I don't know, five or ten minutes, it would prevent this sort of egregious waste of time.

I mean, we are still on the same hand. I literally had enough time to get annoyed at how long it was taking, write up a whole post, read back through it, and post this addition, and he's still just sitting there with no moves. And he only has two possible options!

Welp. We're well over an hour and a half into it now, it's 46-29 in my favor, and he's literally been sitting here for 12+ minutes with no gold, no power, and no additional cards left to play, literally just sitting here refusing to end his turn because then I would automatically win. Little does he know that I'm FAR to stubborn to concede at this point.

And, I finally won, after close to an hour and 45 minutes, but I didn't get a tribute box and the challenge broker won't recognize the challenge to beat another player as complete. :| For Pete's sake.

How is that possible? Isn't there a 90 second time limit per round?

Any match against a player is supposed to have a turn timer. They shouldn't be able to take 10 minute turns. NPC's don't have a timer, but also don't intentionally stall play unless bugged. Is this happening on queue matches specifically?

No idea, but it seems all bugged to hell.

I have to reluctantly admit that I am enjoying this game far more than I expected... or at least I was. This experience has greatly dampened my enthusiasm.

@amapola76 Thanks for the feedback here. We'll pass this along to the dev team for feedback.

Also, we are going to move this to the Tales of Tribute section. Just wanted to give a heads up. :)

It was another player. I accepted the challenge to beat another player from the broker, and started asking every other player (not NPCs) in the vicinity. This guy (whose name I won't share due to name and shame policy) was the first to accept.

I'll also be fair and consider the possibility that if it was truly bugged, he may have thought I was just as much of a jerk, if it seemed delayed to him, too. Maybe it was the game and not the other player.

Either way, pretty ridiculous. And a huge waste of time, particularly considering that I must have asked 30 or 40 other players over the last day to play, and everyone else declined.

    Applauding your patience...!

Personally I think it would be nice if you can just go out, enjoy other ESO aspects or even start another Tribute game and get a notification if your opponent has finally made a move. To be held hostage like that, is not a way to enjoy a game imho.

If it was a direct match invitation (not the queue) then that explains why you didn't get rewards or advance your quest. I believe you need to use the queue for that. It's also entirely possible that these "casual" matches don't have time limits? I thought they were intended to but it may be an oversight. At least that explains the issue with not receiving rewards or advancing the quest.

Yeah, what I would love is to have the equivalent of that thing that happens when you minimize your window, and then combat starts (or you get logged out), where the color of the icon changes, so you know to return to the game.

Hmm, I guess I don't know where to go for "the queue" (yet another thing not explained by the tutorial or the challenge broker intros). How do you get in the queue?

It can be accessed similar to dungeon or battleground queue from the party menu (P key by default). There should be an option for Tales of Tribute.

But even then, more than 5 minutes for a turn is trolling the other player and abusive - this should not be possible.

Any match against another player should have turn time limits. It's not supposed to be possible unless ZOS has changed their mind on something.

Even if that's the case and direct challenges have no time limit, why finish the match if you're being trolled? There is no penalty for conceding that match. The opponent doesn't win anything and you can add them to your ignore list if you wanted to.

Honestly, pure stubbornness. I don't like to reward seemingly bad behavior. Though if I'd realized the other player wouldn't win anything if I conceded, I would have done so. Hindsight's 20/20, though.

On the test server there was a player who would extend every turn to the full 1 and a half minutes. He would play his cards in a few seconds and often not even buy cards for himself or change 1 coin cards for 2 coin cards. There were few players on the test server so the group finder often matched me with him. On the pts we had access to all 8 decks. He whispered me and told me that he would continue extending his turns as long as possible if I didn't choose different decks to play with.

He started doing this after I blocked him for calling me names and telling me that I don't deserve to live.

There are a number of people who are still confused regarding how to play. It is quite possible since this is still a new game and people are still learning, they could have just been studying how you were able to get the high score. I see numerous comments in game on how confused people are regarding the tutorial, or even here on the forum. This may not be a behavior issue, but rather taking the time to study why they were losing.

I have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of the game and have both won and lost matches against other people. Even when I am know I am about to lose, I want to pause and take a moment to see, how did I end up in this position? What did I do wrong? What silly mistakes did I make? I look at the cards that were just played, the recent combos etc. so that I can hone my skills and try not to make the same mistakes. These were matches in the activity finder so I did have the 90 second limit in force.

In other words just because someone is losing or knows they are going to lose, if they sit and ponder, it doesn't automatically mean they are trolling. They simply could be studying their mistakes. This after all is how people in general learn and improve in anything in life. Try not to repeat the same mistake twice.

I am just saying it is day 2 (full days) of the game so I am just hoping that people will give other players the benefit of the doubt as this is so very new and many are confused by it.

Direct matches against other players should have the 90 second limit, or if it is a direct duel with guild mates/friends then possibly at the beginning of the match maybe an agreed upon limit between turns prior to the start of the match and once it is set, then it cannot be changed. Just a suggestion.

Oh, I fully agree with you when it's a couple of minutes. However, I was talking about someone who was just sitting there for 15-20 minutes each time, before ceding their turn, even though they had no gold, no cards left to flip, and no possible moves with the patrons. That's a bit more than "pausing to take a moment." It's more like, "going out to buy a burger" time.

Thanks! For what it's worth, using the queue (thanks also to @redspecter23) is much better than the method I was originally using, but it's still not perfect:

    1) I've won five times today so far, and I got all but one of the victory tribute boxes, but only two of the victories have been acknowledged for purposes of counting toward the daily challenge. And I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the daily turnover time, because I picked up the challenge well into the afternoon (CST), had one victory that did count, followed by some defeats, interspersed with three more victories that did not count toward the challenge (very frustrating!), then one more victory that did count, so I'm now sitting at the silver reward level. It's not great; I should have been finished with the challenge a good while ago, but who knows how long it will take to get a third that's counted.

    2) A couple of times, the queue gave me the countdown timer, told me I was in the game, but the game never appeared. After waiting about five minutes, trying to rejoin the queue (I was told I couldn't because I was already in a game), use doors to enter buildings (I couldn't), or open my mail, interact with vendors, etc. (couldn't do any of that), I logged out in desperation. When I logged back in, and tried to rejoin the queue, I was told I had a desertion penalty and couldn't play right away. :/

On a more positive note, I didn't expect to be into this card game at all, but clearly you guys created an engrossing product if I'm still trying this hard to play despite the frustrations!
