I like chasing achievements and exploring the zones. Questing. Doing dailies. Crafting. I haven't seriously started furnishing any of the many houses I own.

If you're not feeling the spark, take a break, or cut back for a while. ESO isn't the only game I play. I mix it up with a couple of others (single-player). I have periods when I want to spend a lot of time in ESO, and other periods when I just log in quickly to do crafting writs and the daily endeavors (if they're easy).

Yeah it's a little bit of that lol

I mean I generally enjoy ESO. I like the new content, Dungeons, Trials. Nowadays I'm just filling out the Stickerbook, trying out different builds and classes before slinking back to my Magden, then trying to develop new rework ideas that will 9/10 times be ignored.

Friends & doing stuff with them.

Questing alone & enjoying the story.

    Housing.

    {Well, it’s not the Forums, especially the day after new stuff drops & they are full of (somewhat entitled) whinging. 😘🤣}

And I don’t get the sunk cost fallacy - if you enjoy the game, play it. If you don’t anymore, then don’t. Take a break. Do something else. It’s not obligatory 😉

I lost my guild to infighting so ... not much. If anything I've moved on, and it's hard for me to sit down and play ESO anymore.

Can't even really take part in balance discussions since I'm no longer in the loop with the intricacies of how combat goes

I really don't know, I did all what I can do as solo player and with groups, all the trials and dungeons, some hm, played almost every class and all the roles, got tons on achievements, grand overlord, etc... Now I'm tired and bored of this game but I keep playing as solo player, I make weird builds to re-do contents I've already done (VMA & VVH with my sorc tank, Arenas with just 1 skill, soloing some dungeon, etc...). I would like to join again some serious group but I'm not motivated.
Eso is a great game and I love it but I really don't know why I keep playing :D

I still play because despite ZOS's recent attempt with achievement changes to deter me, I still enjoy the game very much - albeit with a single character on each server on my third account rather than with 50 characters across the servers on my original two accounts which are now mothballed.

Pretty much nothing right now, aside from the friends I've made along the way. I'm just very burnt out on the game and on its failure to deliver anything truly refreshing in the past couple of years. It feels stale, repetitive, mindless and not very fun or entertaining.

That's why I'm on vacation in Eorzea. Whether I'll come back or not remains to be seen, sunk cost fallacy and the "Elder Scrolls kick" I get every once in a while will probably do me in.

Oh and also studying for exams kinda takes priority over playing a card game that you need to pay a grossly exaggerated amount of money for.

I genuinely still enjoy the game, but more than that my guild.

I've met a lot of amazing people in ESO's community and through growing my guild.

I couldn't imagine leaving the game and leaving this community.
I have characters that have classes.

I'm not sure what their names are.

I know you asked reason TO play, but wanted to play the devil's advocate.

Some context: I've played off and on since beta, I've done all measures of the game PvE and PvE and I do it well.
I usually have the highest DPS in whatever group I'm in and I rarely die when I'm playing serious.
    I've 1vX'd, duo'd v X, big group PvP, Imperial city/Cyrodil/Battlegrounds.
I've done dungeons, trials, arenas, trifectas of each, achievement hunted for friends (I don't really care if it doesn't contain a reward but spending time and helping someone I care about was my goal)

Currently, I'm finishing a trial trifecta since we progged it for a couple months and are at 35/36 (Kyne's Aegis) then quitting
unless they make a change I find worthy. They game is musty, if you like the way it is great; however, for an MMORPG to live a successful and long life there needs to be change.

I don't like the direction they are taking the game; I don't think they and I are of a similar mind.

Crafting is boring AF to me. There is no skill. You click, you make, done.

The poor companions are not very smart in combat.

Subjective, but to me the story is terrible. I literally have fallen asleep while doing it.
The world is not immersive, one zone to another is so disconnected.
I feel no life breathed into the world or it's characters, it feels hollow.
My characters dialogue options make me seem like I have the intelligence of a simpleton.
I'm glad they decided to back off from the "save the world" thing but a resort knight island seems pretty weak especially when other games do medieval fantasy so much better (Witcher for an example)

Endgame is boring (this comes with experience of course as it does with any game):
Trials are not designed well and are buggy AF (block not working, taunts not working/purged magically and people getting instantly clapped, etc.)
PvP was fun, but, annoying sets and terrible lag/bugs make it not fun; I would have loved to see a Dueling Arena.
One of these bugs: IC DK dragon leap is still going strong (for years now) where if you enter a new zone in IC dragon leap is no longer castable, and sometimes if an enemy dies while trying to cast it you can no longer cast it if you try fixing it by logging off and on.
Dungeons are all the same with slightly different mechanics.
Arenas are more annoying than fun and have too many "wait" periods. (DSA and Maelstrom)

The whole PvE combat experience feels like doing the same thing over and over. LA (light attack) skill LA skill LA skill..
The skill ceiling is about how fast you can weave these skills and doing so in the correct order; at first it was interesting and challenging. Now it's mundane and actually quite static.
Most builds use the same skills, nothing really feels unique.
The classes never really change in meaningful ways, there is no growth, no interactive class mechanics, you just DoT (including AoE ) up and Spam in some fashion.
The abilities are lackluster and look boring, couple examples: Max level sorc -> scamp, Max Level DK -> a flimsy looking fire whip.

The graphics are sorely outdated and need to be addressed.
There is very little dynamic or "life" in the wild, the world is static, most trees don't move (clock work city has slightly moving trees), wind, etc.

In the end, I'm fine with this, and refuse to be spiteful and say "I spent so much time and money playing the game I'm going to keep playing."

I have made great friends and even met my lover in the game.
I have fond memories and don't regret playing; however, if I continue playing much longer I WILL regret playing more because I'm simply not enjoying it anymore. I genuinely hope they make a change I like, but currently it's in a state of white wash flux in my eyes.

If you like the game, play it, if you don't, stop.
Simple as that; the most precious commodity we have is time, don't waste it on something you don't feel like doing.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

When I first started playing ESO, I dove in and ran around doing quests like a maniac. It was a lot of fun, although a little bit confusing since I was doing everything out of order.

Eventually I settled down and got into a daily routine of doing crafting writs on my main character, along with other repeatable daily quests, and running around doing whatever caught my fancy that day.

Much later, I began doing crafting writs on all of my characters, which by that time spanned two servers-- 8 on PC NA, and 7 on PC EU. It helped me earn and save up a lot of gold, but it didn't really leave much time for actually playing the game, so I got to where I'd accept the writs but wait until the next day and do two days of writs in a row, such that I was alternating days between just playing the game and just doing writs. But it was stressful at times, as I rushed to complete my writs before the daily reset, and it felt like I was just tediously grinding for gold (which I was saving up for housing rather than spending).

When the change was made to the Alchemy writs, such that you can no longer do yesterday's Alchemy writs and then follow up with today's Alchemy writs, it was sort of like the straw that broke the camel's back, because it helped me to decide that I didn't want to spend so much of my game time doing nothing but writs on multiple characters. I went back to my old pattern of doing writs on just one character per server, although I still do occasional writs on alternate characters if there's a daily endeavor to craft a given number of items in a specific crafting skill line.

I now have a lot more time to play the game the way I truly enjoy it-- basically, doing whatever I feel like doing. I do take a lot of guidance from the daily and weekly endeavors as far as which activities I decide to focus on for any given day or week, as well as from any event that might happen to be going on. But once I've got those out of the way-- which doesn't usually take long at all-- I just do whatever strikes my fancy at that time, be it revisiting a zone I haven't been to in a while, or soloing all (or as many as I can solo) of the group bosses in a zone, or soloing a normal dungeon, or doing daily quests in the Imperial City and/or Cyrodiil, etc.

I've never been into grinding for anything, and I've never put a lot of thought and effort into creating powerful builds. I prefer to use stamina-based melee fighting, with a bit of magic thrown in sparingly as needed, and I'm not much into using ranged attacks or spamming AOE skills. When I solo a group boss or a normal dungeon, it usually takes me a while-- at a guess, I'd say perhaps twice as long as it takes more powerful players to do it, if not even longer than that. This is actually fun for me, even when it gets frustrating because I've gotten a boss down to 5% of its health and then manage to bungle something and get killed, forcing me to start all over again. When you can't simply melt the boss and all of its adds, it forces you to pay more attention to the boss's mechanics and to your own actions.

Aside from keeping things casual rather than turning it into an intense grind, I divide my game time between ESO and one or more of the other Elder Scrolls games. For a while I was playing Arena a lot (and I still play it weekly), but I recently started to play Daggerfall for the first time and have been spending a lot of hours on that. I've also got some ongoing characters in play in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim-- but I don't spend as much time playing those games because I'd already spent so many hours playing them over the years, whereas Daggerfall is still new to me. Playing other games besides ESO helps keep me from burning out on ESO, although I definitely play ESO for at least a few hours every single day.

What keeps me playing is not playing every night.

I refuse to treat it like a job where I have to login to do dailies and writs and various other tasks. I still enjoy clearing trials and i'm looking forward to getting into dreadsail.

I really enjoy a bit of theory crafting and messing with builds, seeing if i can find something niche without losing too much dps compared to the "meta".

I was so excited for this patch. New scenery, new trial, finally more useful sets, and the new companions. Unfortunately, with half of the new content being so broken, and only promises of future fixes on content that's paid for, I'm happily taking a break. It's getting very hard to defend them these days. As of right now, there's nothing to keep me playing, but hope others get the enjoyment still!

Bored is subjective and personal. No matter what I play I eventually get bored. Don't think there has been one single player game I finished.

I like eso for its simplicity, at least for me. Play as you want, and most the time you will do just fine. I like that.

Nothing keeps me playing lol. I bounce between this game and Guild Wars 2. I might not play either one for months at a time. I enjoy map completion, questing, buildcrafting, and soloing group content as a challenge.

Both of these games come out with content often enough to keep me entertained.

You know, sometimes, when you get old enough (maybe you are) and you've that feeling keeps coming up various times, you realize that feeling is telling you it's time to move on to something else. People think they need to stick to their investments even when it starts to go south. There are some by law that you have to. Like children. Then there are things like this. Games, Social Media, the internet, etc.

This game will NEVER be what I hoped it to be and it continues to stray away from true competitiveness. I found better balance in a game's pvp called Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow on the PSP. The higher the rank, the more powerful weapons were unlocked. However, they had something that always put people on equal grounding. The head shot, the almost instant death mines, traps, etc. and hand to hand combat.

If you had skill, you could start a brand new account at level one and go into the game put a team of top ranked fully geared players to shame. It wasn't gun vs gun, it was mind vs mind. The small map made people get extremely creative as to how to get to someone. Always evolving, things to learn from others. I've played few games that. Where behaviors were at the top. I always enjoyed losing to someone who had a better strategy. It was worth experiencing it and learning it.

In this game pvp in my opinion is utter trash. There is no skill...just sets..fighting each other. There is no thought in the game. It's all an illusion. I don't play illusions.

Sounds like chess suits you lmfao

Fast pace combat system , build crafting .

I would love this game much more if ZOS could provide a stable PVP server , BG is ok , no lag at all .
But I feel too laggy in Cyrodiil , no fun when I go freeze at the gate .

8 years already , I accept they cant fix it , just let it be .
