What keeps you playing?

Topic. Honestly I'm hoping for something to keep me playing...at this point I've lost my desire due to:
  • PVP just NOT being as enjoyable as I'd hoped (this was my endgame).
  • The treatment of our time from ZOS (yesterday's maintenance snafu, one of many).
  • The zero interest in this latest Chapter (card game, really? weak sets).
  • Overland quests just.....kinda boring after a while.
  • The grind of daily dungeons for keys just to not get shoulders I'm wanting every day.
  • Laughable crafting writ rewards (did my first yesterday for woodworking, metal, and clothing..reward? One dreugh wax)

I've been trying to get through some IC stuff to get the storage boxes...I'm sitting at 26K stones..it's going to take forever, and frankly I don't really NEED them anyways. So I ask...what keeps YOU playing? Maybe your comments will spark something.

I don't believe anything can sparks someone's joy unless you find it yourself. I may be able to share what sparks my joy.

So with a new Addon that we are making you will be able to Quest all the ESO quests like in TES3.

Each quest will have lore friendly directions, so you can turn off all the way markers and start exploring and figuring stuff for yourself.

A couple of talks into creating a Custom Quests addon for ESO also is quite promising, imagine the creativity ESO can pull out with custom quests if you look at the Housing creativity.

Taking the time to have an RP journal in game while enjoying the zones is something I enjoy too.

I also heard that all the mounts I get in ESO will be transferable into TES6, it's only a rumor, I know... but I hope it's true

I got introduced to Tamriel when Elder Scrolls 3 came out, and I just got lost and never came back. 15 of the 20 years I have been playing Elder Scrolls games, have been spent with Elder Scrolls games being the only games I play.
What keeps me playing? I really don't know. I haven't put any thought into it.

Having a goal and playing with people company of whom I'm enjoying. From goals Coral Aerie trifecta left for me, didn't even done it in hm yet so have something to do playing as unfrequent as now. Going for another Immortal Redeemer with semi-new group is fun and stuff so it's also occupying one more evening. New dungeon or story dlc will have something new and interesting hopefully to make a new goal or two.

Edit: what would make me play more are probably things like actually good expansions worth purchasing, better questing overall from veteran and hm difficulties to better writing without making player feeling that stupid and PvP performance fixed once and for all.

Comrade, you need a break. Really, take a look at other MMORPGs out there. Final Fantasy and New World and Guild Wars 2 and whatever else. I suspect that will refresh you faith in ESO x) It's very different, even if it started as another WOW clone back in the day.
For the record, i myself do this every year or so.. Although if it wasn't an Elder Scrolls title i definitely wouldn't play

Having other players you like to chat with and/or play with can help a lot.
I play for several reasons, one of them being that I actually enjoy the game. But it also gives my wife and I something to play together when we just want to chill at home.
I also enjoy making big amounts of gold. It gets the dopamine flowing.

Find something that keeps you hooked and happy, or move on. Please don’t waste your time on something like this that doesn’t bring you entertainment.

I love Elder Scrolls and have played since beta but I take breaks when things get repetitive or unfun. I recently started knocking out dlc vet dungeons, PVPing and trials to shake things up and have found my enjoyment increasing when meeting new people in those activities.

lol you can't be serious to complain about a crafting writ reward of one dreugh wax - do you have an idea for what it sells?

You know, sometimes, when you get old enough (maybe you are) and you've that feeling keeps coming up various times, you realize that feeling is telling you it's time to move on to something else. People think they need to stick to their investments even when it starts to go south. There are some by law that you have to. Like children. Then there are things like this. Games, Social Media, the internet, etc.

This game will NEVER be what I hoped it to be and it continues to stray away from true competitiveness. I found better balance in a game's pvp called Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow on the PSP. The higher the rank, the more powerful weapons were unlocked. However, they had something that always put people on equal grounding. The head shot, the almost instant death mines, traps, etc. and hand to hand combat.

If you had skill, you could start a brand new account at level one and go into the game put a team of top ranked fully geared players to shame. It wasn't gun vs gun, it was mind vs mind. The small map made people get extremely creative as to how to get to someone. Always evolving, things to learn from others. I've played few games that. Where behaviors were at the top. I always enjoyed losing to someone who had a better strategy. It was worth experiencing it and learning it.

In this game pvp in my opinion is utter trash. There is no skill...just sets..fighting each other. There is no thought in the game. It's all an illusion. I don't play illusions.

Honestly I had no idea. I'd heard...heck I think in these forums..that writs were good to do. I have almost 3 million gold in the bank so....the wow factor of 22-28k...not so exciting :)

Well they are - but people do not mean beginner level crafting with it, but master writ crafting. When you did your first crafting at all, you should not expect even that, it was just luck. And people do as well not mean to do it just on one character, but on like 16-18. Then the chance is higher that you get quite good rewards - and those dwarf your 3 million pretty soon, if done consistently every day.

PvP with friends - trying to out-think other players never gets old. The repetition nodes kept me coming back (writs, endeavors) until I recently broke that habit with about a month break. I have enough endeavors for a bigtime mount, and enough mats in case I go build crazy next update. Right now, it's all about the people for me. Not caring about the other stuff makes it easier to play and just enjoy.

I engage in almost all aspects of eso. I PvP with a guild in cyrodiil sometimes. I do pledges and writs and dailies. Once in awhile I do trials. I'd say the thing for me that keeps me going is completionism. I didn't start til August 2020 so I'm still working my way through old quests and what not. I really enjoy that stuff the voice acting is so good. I do take breaks from time to time though because sometimes eso feels more like work than fun.

Sounds like you're experiencing really bad burn out my dude. Definitely take a break and maybe try a different game like others here have been saying. I used to be a crafting motif hound back back before the outfit system was added and left in 2019 after getting burnt out something fierce. Just returned last March and totally amazed by all the progress and new stuff.

As for what's keeping me going? The new adventures definitely help from Greymoor and Blackwood to draw me in, but the new friends I've made since getting back have reeled me in for a while longer. I initially was saving up gold for a big home like the Alinor Townhouse but set my eyes on Proudspire when I saw they brought it back due to Skyrim nostalgia. Wheeling and dealing plus help from my new friends in the housing guild I joined made that a reality. Now I focus on making a proper endgame build while preparing for High Isle to make a killing when it launches on console, and building up my Proudspire home with furniture bit by bit. Additionally I hope to make an impact here on the forums and maybe one day get the attention of a dev/mod who will take an idea I propose and implement it. Its a long shot, but I'll keep plugging away at it.

I might get burnt out again and if that happens I'll step away for a while but one day return. Very few people can do this nonstop and a break is healthy.

At the moment, not a whole lot.

I logged in at like 1am this morning (UK time) to do the new content, but after a while I realised I wasn't even listening to the quest givers anymore.

It's certainly not the card game.

For me personally, it's housing. I don't do anything that takes a group or have an interest in pvp, but what makes me happy is immersing myself in the game environment via fishing and gathering resources, and very slowly collecting and decorating homes. When I get bored I take a break and play something else for awhile.

Thanks for the great responses. I think I will take a bit of a break. I'll still log in to get the daily reward, horse upgrade, and research, but I don't think I'll do much more. Maybe join the guild in a trial as long as it's not the new one. Just bought Elden Ring yesterday so ya...breaktime it is :)

Battlegrounds are barely keeping me playing in their current state. I need high level, competitive small scale PvP.

I will play through High Isle but the story is not why I play ESO.

I've played this game on and off since it launched, never been too serious or invested a lot of time into it and mainly playing solo or with my wife before she passed. Recently I've found myself tied into the story and enjoying the lore of the game more and more. To me it feels like I'm playing a D&D game, which I find amazing. Maybe it just took time for me to settle into ESO, but I plan on finding a guild and who knows, maybe even make a few friends along the way.
