Stadia: Unable to change controller bindings

I am not sure when this changed, but a few months ago I was able to change the Stadia controllers bindings by using the PC UI. I suspect it happened in the latest update.
The method for changing it was as follows:

1. Start game in Chrome, login ad choose character to change bindings on
2. Using keyboard and mouse, open the Controls menu
3. Choose the binding that should be changed
4. In the dialog, press wanted button on the controller. The dialog would then display the button pressed
5. Click "Bind" and the change would be saved

Now, when pressing the controller button, the "Controls" UI just closes and performs the action mapped to the button, for example, a light attack if R2 was pressed.

I found this functionality/workaround essential for playing the game, since the default layouts are not optimal. So, I really hope you can reverse/re-implement this functionality.

    Is the PC method working again?

    I have not heard about a fix yet and it has not been resolved as far as I can tell.

    The only way I managed to fix this was to buy the PC/Mac version and set the keybind there. In order to remap the controller settings I have to select Settings->Gameplay and set Gamepad mode to On. I can not find this setting on Stadia where is seems to be set to "Automatic" when using keyboard and mouse, ie. run in Chrome.

    I did :) Both in-game and from the support site, but did not receive any response as far as I can see

    I investigated, and this is the reason of the problem, if they manage it to bring back this setting, we will be able to repmap

    I asked Bethesda on Twitter, they suggested the ticket, ticket is in a limbo

    I wonder whether there is any update on this. I am trying to work out how to lock target with controller like I would with tab target on PC. When playing PVP with controller I feel at a disadvantage as I have to always line the target up and this is hard in a fast moving situation. I am aged 59
