Getting a copy of your pre-awa Character specific achievements and GDPR

I know for many that account wide achievements (awa) as implemented was a difficult transition, given the loss of the character specifics.

If you live in eu/uk you can make a GDPR request via your account support to obtain a complete human-readable(make sure to insist on this) copy of your pre-awa character specific achievements. No idea how data protection works elsewhere but GDPR is pretty defintive and explicit so the achievement data will/should be returned to you in the proper time-frame.

The data comes in a csv file split by character name and list of achievements but not all the numbers make immediate sense.

This should hopefully enable those players who would like to have the information to get a specific achievement record of what each character per server played had completed pre-awa and to what extent. While there are/were add-ons for pc that did this to some extent, that is not and was not an option for console users - hopefully this will be of interest or use for those interested in having a record of their characters pre-awa specific achievements.

Lol What? GDPR regard personal data, like your name, billing address, and any other real life personal information. The law is meant to protect your personal informations, not keeping your browser history available to you.

Its not about your ingame data... you just cannot ask to provide such details through a GDPR request. Those are just not the kind of information GDPR is meant to protect.

GDPR regards personal data, which is classified as such (quoting) and is protected (meaning you've the right to access and, more important, to request its deletion) under GDPR law:
“Personal data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable living individual. Different pieces of information, which collected together can lead to the identification of a particular person, also constitute personal data.

Personal data that has been de-identified, encrypted or pseudonymised but can be used to re-identify a person remains personal data and falls within the scope of the law.”

Did you actually tried yourself asking a copy of your character data by issuing a GDPR request?

In addition to what proprio.meb16ESO stated GDPR would apply to any data ZoS keeps as there is no data retention requirement for businesses under GDPR forcing ZoS to keep copies of their pre-AWA databases - the point of GDPR after all is privacy which is the opposite of data retention.

Since ZoS' stated point of AWA was to reduce the database size its logical to think those databases were merged and no legacy pre-AWA copy is maintained so you'd just get your AWA achievement list that you can view right now in game with any GDPR request because ZoS deleted/merged the pre-AWA data bases even if they responded to a non-privacy GDPR request at all.

GDPR is about personal or special category data. Data that can be used to identify an individual living person.

This is no way covers character data in an online game.

I've only just gone back to an old Xbox game to log onto every character to update the AWA. I have let the past go. I don't know if your main is a warden, but I would urge you to follow the Immortal advice of Elsa from Frozen, who has all of the ice skills which the warden uses in ESO...let it go!

I have considerable knowledge and understanding of GDPR and what data it covers. GDPR is for all personal data including 'pseudonomous' data. Sorry to burst your fiction-bubble but that does include any relevant in game data.

Yes - as you would have understood if you'd read the OP., I wouldn't have posted the information otherwise.

Saved me a ton of time and annoyance rather digging it out for myself and I am quite happy with the results, thanks for asking.

They stated they kept a backup. The data is available.

Actually, I did consider this but figured, since I wanted it in a more useful format it was simpler to just ask zos for it.

I received a csv file containing all the requested data for all my characters on both servers. Very handy.

Please understand that any non-anonymised (aka your 'account' ) data generated and held in any form by a separate entity (in this case zos) is essentially covered by GDPR. This includes, at games conclusion(by you or zos), the 'right to be forgotten' among others. And, obviously, the right to have a human-readable copy of that data in part or in whole should you, individually, request it, including any relevant time limits in providing it.

I know and understand this (with respect to eso and zos; staying on topic) because I personally have made requests for and received copies of this data, exactly the kind that many of you mistakenly and falsely asserted as not being included in GDPR.

Data that is anonymised and stored in anonymised form (eg. group stats where your 'account' is no longer connected with the data) is, understandably, not included.

Obviously this only includes eu/uk; I have no idea whether or if any such provisions for data protection exist or are as comprehensive elsewhere, as I stated in the OP.
