    New race? Also unlikely yes.

I think they associate perhaps character slots only with build and race and class and those almost pre-defined aspects of a character.

However character possibilities are as diverse as all of life itself no?

Whilst some may see new characters as a chore of some kind there are those of us who see them as infinite possibilities waiting to happen.

If AWA showed us anything it's that there isn't all that much room in the current system set up to allow for new growth.

This is extremely disconcerting to me. I have heard people claim similar things on numerous occasions now: "ZOS can't add new animations because the game can't take it," "ZOS can't add new classes because consoles," "ZOS can't add this because that," "ZOS can't add new character slots because database is full."

I worry if there is any legitimate basis to this. Have they actually claimed this publically, or are people just speculating?

Because if they really can't add anything new to the game, I wonder what am I paying for, what am I investing in? I gladly put money into games I feel will bring me a return on that investment with new content. If what you and others are saying is basically "game's full" and they won't be adding anything, then it makes me think maybe it is time to move on.

That is honestly the definition of "maintenance mode" to me. Nothing new being added, for whatever reason, and just keeping things going with maybe a card game added every once in a while.

If that is really where we are then I am really saddened to hear it. I though for sure ESO would at least make it to 10 years before they just stopped adding anything new to the game.

I sincerely hope you are wrong or this is just speculation on your and others' part.

In an interview ZOS mentioned specifically that they had trouble bringing new player animations for player skills into the game because it didn't play nice with older console generations. They have said similar things about other functions as well. That said the same would apply to older pcs as well.

It makes me wonder when they'll finally end support for last generation consoles, half way through this generation, at the end of this gen, what the player count hits "X" number on last gen?

Both ff14 and dcuo ended ps3 support in 2017, about 4 year after the ps4 release and that one didnt have those shortage

There should be less slots total. No need for more. As it is now you really only need what 6 specially with the armory. Fine you want to craft give you 12 maybe even 18. There is literally no argument for more. You can do every class and build at this point easily.

    Race? Rp?

It really seems like a win-win and as I said AWA really should have removed a TON of redundancy from account database complexity.

It is so sad that we have to convince the devs for the simplest things by saying ''hey look, I will give you money for this''.

If it were about $ solely then they wouldn't put a cap on character slots. It is actually cheaper to buy a new account with high isle than it is to upgrade an existing account from 8 to 18 character slots.

Hmmm. Right. Okay, I know where I'm getting my next batch of slots then!

I'm not wrong, 1500 crowns per character slot... 15000 crowns. Even with a crown sale... compare that with the cost of high isle.

The only downside ( or plus if you hate awa) is that you are starting from scratch. But that's 8 more character slots.

The downside for me is that a lot of the ideas i get for new characters come to me from costumes, cosmetics, emotes, personalities, pets, or mounts that I "win" from crown crates that don't fit my existing 18 characters. There's absolutely no way to transfer those to another account. If I want to create a Dwemer-obsessed archaelogist (which Ive desperately wanted to add since Greymoor), sure, I can transfer my motifs and recipes, but I can't mail any of those other things.

Now, if they want to either add new character slots or allow us to gift unwanted crown crate items to other accounts, I would be ok with either solution.

I thought the point of AWA on top of armory was to encourage people to play one character multiple ways, which would inherently encourage peeps NOT to play multiple characters; possibly to reduce server strain.

That being said, I'm on board with these sentiments:

It's not about 'playing' them no.

They are different personalities you spend time with.

Not builds, not tasks, not farmers.

They are friends you take out for an adventure, bring along to a party or decorate a nice new house for.

    Not about dailies. Or farming.

It’s about creating different characters with different classes & skills & playing the game through on them to get a different experience. It’s the RPG aspect of this game.

This is what I don’t understand.

You can only log in to one character at a time, so number of character slots should not have an effect on the server.

(Personally I think the ‘performance’ reason for AWA was thought up after the fact to excuse a badly-executed & rubbish implementation.)

And if it was a storage problem, then why can people make new accounts? With potentially 18 new characters.

So actually none of the explanations make sense.

I think they mentioned about lesser used accounts and characters being semi archived after a period of inactivity.

    My thinking:

Thus potentially allowing more slots as the server loads would be reduced? If i am understanding correctly.

So there may be hope if more slots!

This is how I used to think about them... Until Update 33 when it became clear that this is not how the game was intended to be played. Characters are considerably more an aspect of the player than they used to be.

Now, I am finding it hard to understand why we need more than the base 8 or 9 character slots that come for free. Characters, now, are more "build options" and "storage mules" than anything else. For builds, 6 slots can cover the entire range of possible builds.

That said, I am on the fence with what I think they will do with additional character slots. AWA has been an exercise in reducing the per-character footprint that the database server has to maintain. Cold storage has been an exercising in reducing the number of characters that the database server has to maintain. It seems to me that the last couple of years have been occupied, in part, with coming up with ways to have fewer characters in the database, with less information stored about each character.

They just cleaned house... Why would they add more character slots, potentially reversing work they just finished completing?

On the other hand, very few people probably have 18 characters. They did just carve out room for people to have more of them, so why not use some of that new-found space and bump the limit in 2023? They can toss in a new class to justify it.

I have seen them try, from time to time, but I think that ultimately it is too little, too late. This is why I stopped rewarding the studio with new game related purchases until they fix the game, and themselves.

I don't mind people who want more character slots to get them.

But then make every daily "thing" in the game account wide. It will make thoes with "force tendencies" don't feel like they are missing out because they don't have 17+ alts...

The value of the "dalies" wiĺl increase. The enjoyment of the game will increase, since we will feel less of a"must". The overall experience will increase, since we will actually have time to do the things we want to do.

There would be an uproar if they made all daily quest completion account wide. Yikes.
Plus, it would be against MMO…. Standards? They want us online as much as possible. Non-account wide dailies give some players a reason to stay logged in.

Anyway, I was doing my daily writs on my 18 characters today, and I thought about how I have purchased 2 race changes over the past few weeks, just so i could have “new” characters to play. Because I’m certainly not deleting characters I’ve put so much work into. (All professions maxed on all characters, etc).

Just give us a few more character slots already! :s

I've gone the opposite way to those wanting more character slots. Once it became clear that the AwA changes on PTS with UD33 were here to stay, thereby removing a massive part of the reason for me playing the 50 characters on my two accounts, I bought a third account - not to enable me to make another 18 characters (or 36 across both servers) but specifically in order to create a single new character whose progression and achievements in the game would not be compromised by the progression and achievements of other characters. That character is doing well and is currently on 120 champion points with no gold or other transfers of any kind from the other accounts whose subscriptions I've cancelled and for which I haven't pre-ordered High Isle.

That's the way I'll play the game going forward, so more character slots hold no interest for me although they would have done before UD33 of course.

For me I enjoy playing the game. Only have one account I pay and play on. Not going to start a second account since I have thousands of hours played on my account. Honestly don’t want to pay for a second crafting bag.

Have 18 characters and never deleted one and never will. All are leveled up and did the main quest and most DLC’s on them also. Spent to much time creating and making each different with play style/look and their own story/personality in my head. That’s why I want more slots. So, I can continue to enjoy the game, not do writs for gold. Play on console and know of no one that has multiple accounts for writ purposes.

Think most people who want more slots is not, so they do more writs but continue to enjoy playing the game they love. If it was all about writs, then most of those people already have a 2nd or 3rd account for that reason. It’s not about the digital gold on a screen that I want more slots for, it because I want to continue playing the game the way I want to. Which is keeping with their theme of play the way you want to play.

    Stay safe :)

Khajiit does not play all 18 of them everyday, but he does play them all very often, specifically for their own merits. A tank, a stam dps and a mag dps for each of 6 classes. All are 7prof master crafters w/ 8-9 traits known (4 are fullly 9 trait), all are leveled to cp, all are and have been maxed on their class, weapon, armor, guild (fighters, mages, thieves, DB, psijic) skill lines, and mounts for years now. All do dungeons and trials.

17 khajiit and one argonian with furry delusions. Many days, all are logged in to do crafty dailies, some days only a few are logged in. Lately Khajiit is leveling up legerdemain on them (got all 18 over lvl 10 woo hoo, only 2 are lvl 20).

Every one has a distinct personality driven by their class skills and how that class approaches their game "life", and not just from the role perspective (i.e. a sorc tank is very very different than a necro tank, for instance), a clear story, which drives the motivation for which to play depending on this one's mood at the moment.

With the Armory and six characters, you can go a long long way to playing every possible build within a class and race. This is an amazing tool that can do almost everything you need it to do to respec a character.

Personally, I don't chase race. I patiently wait for ZOS to homogenize the races so that they are different in only cosmetics.
