Any reason to get more character slots, besides when a new class is introduced?

This is extremely disconcerting to me. I have heard people claim similar things on numerous occasions now: "ZOS can't add new animations because the game can't take it," "ZOS can't add new classes because consoles," "ZOS can't add this because that," "ZOS can't add new character slots because database is full."
I worry if there is any legitimate basis to this. Have they actually claimed this publically, or are people just speculating?
Because if they really can't add anything new to the game, I wonder what am I paying for, what am I investing in? I gladly put money into games I feel will bring me a return on that investment with new content. If what you and others are saying is basically "game's full" and they won't be adding anything, then it makes me think maybe it is time to move on.
That is honestly the definition of "maintenance mode" to me. Nothing new being added, for whatever reason, and just keeping things going with maybe a card game added every once in a while.
If that is really where we are then I am really saddened to hear it. I though for sure ESO would at least make it to 10 years before they just stopped adding anything new to the game.
I sincerely hope you are wrong or this is just speculation on your and others' part.
In an interview ZOS mentioned specifically that they had trouble bringing new player animations for player skills into the game because it didn't play nice with older console generations. They have said similar things about other functions as well. That said the same would apply to older pcs as well.
It makes me wonder when they'll finally end support for last generation consoles, half way through this generation, at the end of this gen, what the player count hits "X" number on last gen?

You get to sell more characters slots = MONEY.
Veteran players who love the game stay engaged = MONEY.
It really seems like a win-win and as I said AWA really should have removed a TON of redundancy from account database complexity.

If it were about $ solely then they wouldn't put a cap on character slots. It is actually cheaper to buy a new account with high isle than it is to upgrade an existing account from 8 to 18 character slots.
Hmmm. Right. Okay, I know where I'm getting my next batch of slots then!
I'm not wrong, 1500 crowns per character slot... 15000 crowns. Even with a crown sale... compare that with the cost of high isle.
The only downside ( or plus if you hate awa) is that you are starting from scratch. But that's 8 more character slots.

It's not about 'playing' them no.
They are different personalities you spend time with.
Not builds, not tasks, not farmers.
They are friends you take out for an adventure, bring along to a party or decorate a nice new house for.

That being said, I'm on board with these sentiments:SantieClaws wrote: »

Exactly! I like all my characters as people, as individuals, not as "alts" or "more storage".
Some of them like to do some things, some like to do others...hmmmm there is a song for thathttps://youtu.be/OFzXaFbxDcM

I dot understand how anyone can actually play 18 toons!! You can barely do all the dailies on 1 so are we talking more alts just to better farm 1 specific thing repeatedly and log out?

This is how I used to think about them... Until Update 33 when it became clear that this is not how the game was intended to be played. Characters are considerably more an aspect of the player than they used to be.
Now, I am finding it hard to understand why we need more than the base 8 or 9 character slots that come for free. Characters, now, are more "build options" and "storage mules" than anything else. For builds, 6 slots can cover the entire range of possible builds.
That said, I am on the fence with what I think they will do with additional character slots. AWA has been an exercise in reducing the per-character footprint that the database server has to maintain. Cold storage has been an exercising in reducing the number of characters that the database server has to maintain. It seems to me that the last couple of years have been occupied, in part, with coming up with ways to have fewer characters in the database, with less information stored about each character.
They just cleaned house... Why would they add more character slots, potentially reversing work they just finished completing?
On the other hand, very few people probably have 18 characters. They did just carve out room for people to have more of them, so why not use some of that new-found space and bump the limit in 2023? They can toss in a new class to justify it.Sylvermynx wrote: »Yup. I just bought my 3rd account.
This is a fun game to play, but honestly, the studio does not exactly have the best reputation for being forthcoming with the players on plans, reasons, or even just communicating. I have seen them try, from time to time, but I think that ultimately it is too little, too late. This is why I stopped rewarding the studio with new game related purchases until they fix the game, and themselves.

But then make every daily "thing" in the game account wide. It will make thoes with "force tendencies" don't feel like they are missing out because they don't have 17+ alts...
The value of the "dalies" wiĺl increase. The enjoyment of the game will increase, since we will feel less of a"must". The overall experience will increase, since we will actually have time to do the things we want to do.
