More character slots with High Isle... PLEASE!

With Account Wide Achievements reducing the database footprint of accounts by an order of magnitude, can we PLEASE revisit the 18 character limit we have been stuck at for the last 4 years?

WoW allows you 50+ characters! Surely ESO's servers have room to accommodate a few more slots to keep veteran players engaged?

You get to sell more characters slots = MONEY.

Veteran players who love the game stay engaged = MONEY.

It really seems like a win-win and as I said AWA really should have removed a TON of redundancy from account database complexity.

I feel this is a really overdue improvement.

@ZOS_Kevin any idea if this is something that is at all possible we might see? Thanks!

If AWA showed us anything it's that there isn't all that much room in the current system set up to allow for new growth.

There won't be new character slots. That's the tone I am getting from ZOS for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Yeah. I'll be surprised if we get any after 2023....

It's a problem for me. I have all these characters beating on the inside of my mind, wanting me to create them. I'm probably going to have to do another account....

I agree. Until all servers are performing well I would not expect more character slots and especially when a new class is not being added.

This is extremely disconcerting to me. I have heard people claim similar things on numerous occasions now: "ZOS can't add new animations because the game can't take it," "ZOS can't add new classes because consoles," "ZOS can't add this because that," "ZOS can't add new character slots because database is full."

I worry if there is any legitimate basis to this. Have they actually claimed this publically, or are people just speculating?

Because if they really can't add anything new to the game, I wonder what am I paying for, what am I investing in? I gladly put money into games I feel will bring me a return on that investment with new content. If what you and others are saying is basically "game's full" and they won't be adding anything, then it makes me think maybe it is time to move on.

That is honestly the definition of "maintenance mode" to me. Nothing new being added, for whatever reason, and just keeping things going with maybe a card game added every once in a while.

If that is really where we are then I am really saddened to hear it. I though for sure ESO would at least make it to 10 years before they just stopped adding anything new to the game.

I sincerely hope you are wrong or this is just speculation on your and others' part.

AWA was to optimize access, not save space (per se at least).

Storage is cheap. How would they handle more players if not?

The new account wide achievement system did not free up anything, it just shifted the way it is loaded by the game so that it only has to load once for all characters instead of for each individual character all of the data for each individual character is still stored but only part of it is accessed during game play now. So, no, there is no new space for even more characters, in fact there is probably a little less because they've had to add the account wide database to the server as well.

Selfishly, I kinda hope they don't even consider this. I recently expanded with a view to level up some craft mules and jesus it is starting to feel like a job....but I haven't started resenting it yet. Selfishly, like an addict, I hope this doesn't happen, because I would almost certainly get some more toons going for even more passive writ income....and then *** my wife off even more! ;)

If they ever add a new race and/or class, then they need to add additional character slots. One of the things I've enjoyed most is the building of new characters. The only thing I wouldn't look forward to is having to train up riding skills all over again for a new character.

It did shrink the database considerably.. Now theres only 1 set of achievements per account not 18 sets in there.

I dot understand how anyone can actually play 18 toons!! You can barely do all the dailies on 1 so are we talking more alts just to better farm 1 specific thing repeatedly and log out?

I went from one...to six (during a double xp)...to eight (during the next double xp)....to eighteen (during the slot crown sale just before the next double xp).

Those last ten toons are now all ~ level 31-41. They are joining my next to last toon as crafting mule only toons. The amount of passive income and master writ (semi passive income), and crafting mats (cost saver or yet another income generator if you want) one gets for each extra max crafter toon you own is not to be scoffed at.

I will be the first to admit that the move from 8 to 18 toons has changed the grind of the writ tables each day and at times makes the game feel like a job. 1-2 hour round trip to get it done.

I can afford this in my life right now. I am working thru strategies to shorten it (addons to craft extra, back to backing two days). I also fulllllllly expect that when my first child arrives in a couple months I will go many days or weeks..maybe months or years without doing a single writ.

I fully accept this strategy is not for everyone....but jeez you should see the gold slowly build up and better yet the gold mats build up every single day!

Oh, to me it has nothing to do with Dailies. I haven't done Dailies in years. It's about making distinct builds and experimenting with them in dungeons, trials, vma, world bosses, etc. I don't want to change a build to do different things when I can just swap to a different character.

In an interview ZOS mentioned specifically that they had trouble bringing new player animations for player skills into the game because it didn't play nice with older console generations. They have said similar things about other functions as well. That said the same would apply to older pcs as well.

The old 18 sets of achievements are still stored on the database, they won't go away because so many things still reference them even though they're account wide, for example the achievements for skyshards while being account wide, still need to be tracked individually so each character can still get the skill points from them, making achievements account wide didn't free up very much space at all.

20 seems like a much nicer number than 18.

However 18 is kinda special. It’s one of a few double digit numbers that add to one of its component numbers. 1+8 = 9. It’s is also an even number with more than one odd number components (3 and 9) and one of its components is also the square of another component.

20 on the other hand is kinda boring. 2,5 are its base components. It’s lacks the same style as 18.

Don’t even get me started on how sexy 49 is. Hoooah.

But I’d still prefer a couple more characters.
