There won't be new character slots. That's the tone I am getting from ZOS for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

With Account Wide Achievements reducing the database footprint of accounts by an order of magnitude, can we PLEASE revisit the 18 character limit we have been stuck at for the last 4 years?
WoW allows you 50+ characters! Surely ESO's servers have room to accommodate a few more slots to keep veteran players engaged?
You get to sell more characters slots = MONEY.
Veteran players who love the game stay engaged = MONEY.
It really seems like a win-win and as I said AWA really should have removed a TON of redundancy from account database complexity.
I feel this is a really overdue improvement.
@ZOS_Kevin any idea if this is something that is at all possible we might see? Thanks!

The new account wide achievement system did not free up anything, it just shifted the way it is loaded by the game so that it only has to load once for all characters instead of for each individual character all of the data for each individual character is still stored but only part of it is accessed during game play now. So, no, there is no new space for even more characters, in fact there is probably a little less because they've had to add the account wide database to the server as well.
I dot understand how anyone can actually play 18 toons!! You can barely do all the dailies on 1 so are we talking more alts just to better farm 1 specific thing repeatedly and log out?

This is extremely disconcerting to me. I have heard people claim similar things on numerous occasions now: "ZOS can't add new animations because the game can't take it," "ZOS can't add new classes because consoles," "ZOS can't add this because that," "ZOS can't add new character slots because database is full."
I worry if there is any legitimate basis to this. Have they actually claimed this publically, or are people just speculating?
Because if they really can't add anything new to the game, I wonder what am I paying for, what am I investing in? I gladly put money into games I feel will bring me a return on that investment with new content. If what you and others are saying is basically "game's full" and they won't be adding anything, then it makes me think maybe it is time to move on.
That is honestly the definition of "maintenance mode" to me. Nothing new being added, for whatever reason, and just keeping things going with maybe a card game added every once in a while.
If that is really where we are then I am really saddened to hear it. I though for sure ESO would at least make it to 10 years before they just stopped adding anything new to the game.
I sincerely hope you are wrong or this is just speculation on your and others' part.

It did shrink the database considerably.. Now theres only 1 set of achievements per account not 18 sets in there.

It's not about 'playing' them no.
They are different personalities you spend time with.
Not builds, not tasks, not farmers.
They are friends you take out for an adventure, bring along to a party or decorate a nice new house for.
