Honestly, as annoying as the level grind is (and I second whoever mentioned nDSA, I was farming that solo with my Bastian and XP scrolls for the lead that drops there) the reputation grind needs to be made WAY less tedious. I'm not at max on either of them and that's not from failing to try either.

Well, like I said - I had Mirri's rapport maxed out by the time she was around level 12. Rapport was easy, I just made sure to do the ashlander daily every day, and hit a bookshelf/Antiquity/goblin/snake/etc every so often.

(honestly wouldn't know how to run nDSA, even if I knew where it was. :D Since 2016, I think I've run maybe 8 normal dungeons, and one horrible attempt at nMA. At least I think it was nMA, not sure how you choose whether it's normal or vet.)

I found levelling rapport really easy as well, just walking into a library or mages guild takes literally no effort.

Thanks to tips about nDSA, I tried that out last night and I agree it's the best way to go for companion levelling - far better than dolmens or public dungeons, which are the next best.

It's in Craglorn. You can just walk in, I think, that's what I did. Normal mode is pretty easy, though it gets harder towards the end, but you can leave any time.

Give the fun trait Prolific an additional 3% increase in XP training (only) for Companions.

Makes it also more worthwhile to get all Weapon skill lines per Companion developed.

We should have fought for our village and not have backed down, with our tail between our legs. Now my home village is in shambles, the houses burning, the invaders feasting.I swear every day to Shor that after Molag Bal has been defeated, I will hunt down the invaders and restore peace in Bleakrock and drink my mead with my friends at the market place".PC-EU

all of the arenas still use the same normal/vet toggle that dungeons do in the group menu, so its a good thing to check before loading into your instance lol

I hope they consider making a companion who has a personality that would like what you do as part of the Dark Brotherhood like stealing, pickpocketing, assassinating, etc.

A companion that's different from the other companions.

based on what i have read on the PTS forum, that would be ember (just dont get caught doing bad things, or you lose rapport), and the bonus while having her active gives a chance to do a 4th pickpocket on an npc essentially

This one’s newly minted level 50 dragonknight took Mirri along for the Craglorn main quest and managed to increase her destruction staff by several tiers which is good.

But despite killing all those snake enemies, read books and brewed bottles of ale along the way, Mirri still considers the DK a “friendly acquaintance” :/

If you want to increase rapport, it’s the old grind of dolmens (fighters guild daily) and public dungeons (mages).

the only "fast" way to rank up rapport is through the daily quests (fighters guild for example)

every other source is almost negligible and basically just countering negative rapport for those times you accidentally grab a butterfly or torchbug lol

For Mirri, there is also the Ashlander daily in Vvardenfell. But that requires going through several quest lines to obtain the daily quest.

And in June, we shall have Ember and Isobel to win favours with! If only AWA also means the choice to apply rapport completion for all alts!

Yesterday, I had exp scroll and meal, and with Bastian in tow, did the Critical Mass quest in Craglorn... mobs aplenty! :)
Bastian's almost level 19 now, so I figure if I do this quest a few more times, he'll be level 20 in a short time. I don't have training gear on him, though, instead it's all quickened, to shorten his skill cooldowns, because I have him setup as my healer.

companions dont have a "training" trait, since they get a portion of the xp you get from killing enemies, you would have to be the one to equip the training gear to boost their xp (which is why xp booster scrolls work to further buff their xp)

true, i only really did the fighters guild one because it also helped to rank up the fighters guild skill line for the companion too lol

I found public dungeons worked well for companion xp. I managed to hit 20 with Mirri the other night. I did find that getting reputation with her was much easier than with Bastian.
Books, goblin killing, snake killing, all aside, the museums helped a lot. Wrothgar one didn't work but Artaeum one, northern & southern elsweyr, & Vivec library all worked. Mirri commented like she should get a rapport bonus over one in Murkmire but no luck. 75 for first time, 5 each time after (cooldown period though). In addition to the daily fighter's guild quest, the Ashland dailies were good for 125. YOU MUST BE UN-MOUNTED TO GET ASHLANDER QUEST RAPPORT. I found that out the hard way after doing quests for a week and a half with no rapport gain. Going to clockwork city, entering Daedric places (both public dungeons and delves).

With Bastian I found that many things listed on websites as giving rapport didn't actually work. No gain from opening treasure chests, no gain from going to crafting station areas, no gain from killing some bandits & cultists even though they were labeled as such (and cooldown was not an issue). No museum gains & there is a long cooldown for going to Eyeveya shared with Artaeum. Entering a mage guild with portal to Eyeveya (also a long cooldown). Random encounters are hard to find and I've done a lot of them & some are not recurring. There only seems to be one quest (mage guild) that gives 125 rapport (or any rapport for that matter).

I managed to get maxed with Mirri on one character and Bastian on another.

A few things I would like:
    • Companion equipment footlocker that works like a craft bag
    • Buff stat food/drink for companions
    • Ability to craft gear for companions & set appearance
    • Have a hat slot appearance (why can't they show hats?)
    • Dye their costumes differently than player character costumes
    • Eventually more companion quests or mini-quests of sorts for their storylines (would love updates on Mirri's mother & Bastian's sister). Feels sort of meh to hit 5500 rapport with them and not really get anything. Even just a quest for them to say "You're my bestie! Have a little xp!" or something would be nice.
    • Companion emotes- some sort of way to make them emote, play an instrument, or respond to an emote from the player

I've heard that Ember doesn't like fishing and gets negative rapport. I hope this will be removed when the game goes live. I wanted her as my fishing buddy! A cat should be excited about fish! Although, I could see rapport gains with an Argonian companion (if one is ever made) since they like fish. Having them give a bonus to fishing somehow (like you can find extra items or catch more fish) would be nice.

Since they level up with combat exp only, I recommend running a public dungeon killing spree route, such as old or new orsinium in Wrothgar or the Vile manse in Reapers March.

Public dungeons seem to work for me. One other minor nitpick is the companions sometimes getting in the way when I go to click on chests, boxes, fishing holes, etc. I've missed out on stuff bc I went to click an item and stupid companion was up in the way. LOL. I had to dismiss Bastian's fat behind because he kept walking right in front of me.

In veteran dungeons, no. And on dlc dungeon bosses they often die, mostly to ground AEs. But normal vanilla dungeons should be no issue. Got Mirri in medium armor with melee weapons and she never dies in those dungeons. And Bastian can tank those easily, not that he needs to but then I don't have to waste so much stamina on blocking or dodging.
Mirri's AE fear is great for handling those thrash groups in dlc dungeons.

Anyway, judging them after two hours is just silly since level is their most important stat for survivability.

Of course, I unlocked Mirri on the character who can't fly through mobs as well as my Magplar or Stamden, because that's who'd need the help from a companion more.
    (my single-target, stealth/thief, stamblade)

So "grind ALL the mobs!" isn't a great option for her.

Guess I need to drag the Magplar over to Blackwood and do that quest again, if I ever want Mirri to level up

You can level your companion with the character most suitable for grinding. Companion-, weapon- and armorlevel is account wide, only rapport counts per character. Just do the intro quest so you can use your companion with that character.

Right, that was my point - I hadn't done the intro quest on any other characters yet, because they didn't need a companion along.
/Edit: NB (stam) is perfectly suitable for grinding. You only need whirling blades (dual wield), bombarde (bow) and Ring of the Pale Order (or Vengeance Leech set).

And yeah, I know that there are Stamblade builds that are good for grinding mobs. My Stamblade, however, isn't. ;)
(bow, stealth, Thief Guild, single-target skills; Night's Silence, Night Mother's Embrace. Don't have any mythics yet, on any characters.)

I've just finished leveling rapport/actual level for bastian and switched over to Mirri. Been using her for a week and have just been questing, running dragonstar here and there and 2 manning dungeons/dsa with companions out and she's level 20?

If you're wanting to really grind them out I recommend going to skyreach and grinding some CP with a friend simultaneously while having your companions out.

I don't do dungeons or arenas, and I don't "grind mobs". That's the issue. Not everyone kills lots of mobs in the course of their regular play.

Well if you’re not doing activities regularly that gives you xp for kills, you won’t level them quickly. That’s all there is to it 🤷🏻‍♂️

My companions die too easily but then I don't have them geared properly. If I geared them right they would probably survive longer. I'm one of those people who likes fishing, gathering, & crafting more than fighting so it took me awhile to level up Mirri. I made more effort to level Bastian faster. Hoping to have him maxed (if possible) before the new ones come out. But, I can take turns grinding levels with companions on different characters.
Ember and my thief will be good buddies.

I feel you. I think I have him at lvl 13 now and its slow going. He whines about a lot of things which makes him annoying, although he did randomly tell me a joke while I was fishing. Wish I could remember it. Involved a Nord and a duck. I like little things like that. Makes it entertaining. Wish I knew what had triggered it. Adding an interaction to ask companions to tell a joke would be fun. I wish I could turn off his comments about cities every damn time I walk near one.

I felt the same way with Mirri when I saw how much xp I had to grind even at the halfway mark. But I did a public dungeon with her & xp came fast (compared to other grinding methods). Only works if you're able to solo it seems though. So, have to pick one that is not hard to do. The one in the northern area of Deshaan works well for me. I pick up Mothers Sorrow gear as a bonus. I did drink a crown potion to boost xp and it seemed to boost her xp as well.

While it takes forever because they only level off your combat XP, I have mine out when I'm tooling around overland doing stuff so at least they'll get incidental XP. Bastian probably only got to level 20 because I had to farm DSA for a lead.
