Question about Transmute crystals

I have been away for a while and am coming back after about 2 - 2.5 years.

Are transmute crystals still basically just "Do daily dungeons and PVP" ? Is it faster to get them now? I don't PVP much and I assume I will need a bunch of them.

I believe you need 50 each time, and I know you can get them thru PvP, but not sure where else, if any.

random normal gives you 10 transmutes, pvp, trial leaderboard for the weekly, pledges

The methods of acquiring them haven't changed. The storage cap is higher and if you have a full known set you only need 25 to reconstruct, so there's a bit more flexibility in the system in that regard. I don't think it's actually faster now, but more people seem to value transmutes, which means more people run random normals, so if you're in an active guild it can be quicker to pump some out than before. Even without that, the queue seems to generally pop faster than 2 years ago, at least during busy times.

If you have the gold to buy repair kits and don't want to fight, just make several characters to repair walls in a 30-day campaign for 50 crystals each (plus more you might get as rewards for the worthy
Sometimes I'll go with all 18 characters for 900 crystals (sometimes jumping off the walls into a zerg for the 25K AP when the mood hits me)
You'll need 25 crystals for each piece of gear if you have discovered all the pieces in that set, more if you only have found a few

I think it still costs 50 crystals to transmute the trait on a piece of gear, which might be what @koopdaville68 meant.

Reconstructing a known piece of set gear can cost anywhere from 25 to 75 crystals, depending on how many items from that set you've collected, so 50 crystals would be the average cost of reconstruction.

Although it's often cheaper to reconstruct set gear with the desired trait than to transmute the trait on an existing piece, that isn't an option for non-set gear and craftable set gear-- although in those cases it's likely cheaper to just recraft the gear with the desired trait.

Of course, the other advantage of reconstruction over transmutation is that most reconstructed gear can be deconstructed to recover 25 transmute crystals, although I'm not sure whether reconstructed mythic gear can be deconstructed to recover the transmute crystals.

Yes, thank you for clarifying! :-)

10 for each first daily dungeon you do on each toon. The more toons you have, the faster you get them. It's wonderful.

No, mythic gear can't be deconstructed.

No, mythic gear can't be deconstructed.

Yeah, that's what I heard, and I'd planned to test it for myself (for verification) on the PTS, but kept forgetting to. Bummer. :(

I've not tried that. Is that regular deconstruction at a crafting table or something you do at the transmute station?

Yes, but only once a day. For every random (and vet) after that, it's only one.

When you queue for the random dungeon it will tell you what kind of rewards you are going to get. Premium is 10 crystals.

I've not tried it yet, either, so I'm not sure. I want to try it on the PTS before I do it on the live server, and I haven't done that yet. I've got a couple of other questions, too, such as how many temps you get back, and if it matters whether you'd specifed the quality while reconstructing the item or had reconstructed it at the default quality and improved its quality afterward.

Regular deconstruction at a crafting table. Reconstructed items will always yield 25 crystals, but no style or trait items. You may get one temper (as with a regular deconstruction) if the item has been upgraded above the default reconstruction quality.
