You'll Never Take Me Alive

Whenever I play the bad guy, I have two rules:

1. They'll never take me alive.

2. I never pay a bounty ever.

Do any of you play the same way too?

Can't really do that in ESO since there are guards that are invincible, and you *will* pay a bounty, alive or dead, because it's removed from your corpse when they kill you...

I just avoid getting caught, they can't kill me or make me pay a bounty if they never find out a crime took place.

Helps that all the guards in ESO are basically Sergeant Schultz, finds bodies, find that safe vanished from the shop, store shelves empty, guard didn't see it happen so nothing is wrong carries on with their patrol.

I have done that. It helps to plan your thefts so that if you get caught you can outrun the guards. Being in a small interior with a guard is just asking for trouble. Not that you cannot do the theft but that if you do get caught, there is no where to run.

I have certainly paid more to the fences to clear my bounty than I have to the guards. And I usually have to steal or stealth poorly in order to get caught just to increase the 'flee' related achievement.

If I'm deliberately stealing in front of a guard for the "escape from the guards" endeavor, I'll cut and run.

If I accidentally steal in front of a guard or encounter a guard while I've got a bounty I forgot about, I'll either play the "I know important people" card or just cut and run.

Once upon a time I would just pay my bounty and be done with it, but for a few years now I never bother with paying bounties. My passives are high enough that large bounties go away pretty quickly, so I just avoid the guards and let my bounty go away on its own. I don't even use those two bounty-clearing documents, so I've got a nice little collection of those stacking up.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

I use invisibility potions for those small places or where doors will get locked if you are caught.

To clarify, I always attempt to escape if I'm caught in the act, and it's actually quite easy to get away if you know what you're doing. It's also easy to not get caught in the act if you are patient and constantly aware of your surroundings. But I never willingly pay a bounty to the authorities (or even a fence). They will have to take it from my corpse.

    Bounties also decrease faster offline

its all situational. For throwing mudballs at the Kings/Queen - walk up to guard and pay. For obnoxious interaction they surround with crates to accidentally steal from - cut and run. it doesn't take that long to wear off.

This is why I only steal around large bodies of water, NPCs can't enter deep water while you can swim out as far as you want... minus slaughter fish. If NPC/mobs do happen to enter deep water, they immediately despawn, it's freaking hilarious when you use an ability that causes knockback at the edge of shallow water on any mob and if they happen to land in the deep area, they get vaporized by the game.

Did you know you can steal in front of the guard who patrols inside the Saint Delyn Canton on the upper floor? Just break away from him, run out into one of the long side halls, and get as close to the door at the end of the hall as you can. He'll give up and go back to patrolling around the inner area.

i think at max decay rate its only like 120 bounty every like couple of minutes (some places ive seen suggest 3 min per "tick")

at the 63 mil bounty that they posted it would be 525, 478 "ticks" to remove the bounty

each tick being 3 minutes, would mean 1, 576, 435 minutes would have to pass

translates to 26, 273 hours, which translates to ~1095 days for the bounty to fully decay

if you didnt have anything upgraded it would likely take upwards 4 times longer

Well, it takes a lot of hard work to get a bounty that high. I tried a crime spree so I could get the achievement for paying bounties and I got tired at around 40k...

Oh, that's just a small portion. I'm at well over 300 millions combined on all toons while my highest one is at over 112 millions.

It's nice having true freedom in being an outlaw and getting away with everything if you just know how. As a mass murderer i don't care about guards, they're just a minor annoyance. Killing NPC's right before their eyes and escaping before they can harm me is just so satisfying.

I only pay bounties on the character that isn't meant to be a criminal, when I accidentally steal an item or I hit an NPC. I enjoy swinging my weapons around in cities...

My Necro is my criminal character, so she never pays bounties or gets caught by guards. I have pardons in my inventory when I need to do business in the city though, she is my main and I love idling in Alinor/Rimmen. I guess I don't take the criminal life as seriously as some of you guys!

That 63mil bounty is impressive @Kisakee
