I don't know if this has been addressed, frankly I was too lazy to search.

Why aren't companions included in AWA?
You've had nature explained to you and you're bored with it, you've had the living body explained to you and you're bored with it, you've had the universe explained to you and you're bored with it, so now you want cheap thrills and, like, plenty of them....

What do you mean? They do seem to be included.

Do you mean why rapport is still character specific?

Their level and skill and gear are and have always been account wide, and their keepsakes (and the benefits therefrom) are and have always been account wide. Rapport is basically only for roleplay purposes. You have no real reason to do their personal quests repeatedly as you gain nothing from it except a different three lines of dialogue. Making rapport account wide wouldn't really achieve anything.
PC NA, CP2500+. Character creation is the true endgame.

It's the same reason that you have to level scrying on every character yourself. They were created for the grind.

Wait, companion weapon skill level is accountwide?

Yes. Companions share a single gear and skill set up and level across your account. The only character level thing is rapport and costume/style/mount.

Companion achievements are also account wide. So are their unlock rewards.

Oh, I knew about the achievements and unlock rewards.

I'm very glad to hear that about weapon skills, I never have to do that grind again

You also need to unlock each companion per character. That and rapport is the only non account wide aspects of the companions.

I was really hoping you didn’t have to dig them up again with AWA. I haven’t bothered.

Why keep companion progress on characters separate like that? Does it save database space? Likely not.

Why keep crafting alt knowledge separate? That doesn’t save database space.

Why keep zone progress unlock separate? That doesn’t save database space either.

All this data still being tracked separately but no achievements, not sure it bought us anything in return.

    I've found that
the envelope that you get from Mirri after completing her questline always has a Blackwood treasure map in it
    which is still nice.

The only thing AwA deals with is the granting of the Achievements, themselves.

It doesn't affect the actual content associated with earning the achievements.
With specific respect to the Companions, that means you still have to go through the quest to unlock a Companion for a particular character. You simply won't get the achievement again for doing so, IF one of your other characters has already earned it.

AwA allows using rewards associated with getting the achievement though (buying achievement furniture, houses, using titles etc) by any character. The only technical reason I can come up with why it does not extend to using companions is the fact that companion collectible is a reward for a quest and not an achievement. Afaik there isn't even an achievement for just unlocking a companion.

Both Mirri and Bastion have "unlock" achievements; "Earn Mirri's Loyalty" and "Earn Bastion's Loyalty," earned by completing their respective unlock quests.
They are sub-achievements that are part of the larger, "Mirri's Companion" and "Bastion's Companion" achievements.

The various skill lines are another thing that are not affected by AwA.
All of your characters may have earned a particular skill line achievement via AwA if just one of your characters have earned it, but they all still need to do the actual work to unlock the skill line and the skills before they have access to them.
