When do you pay for instant wayshrine port?

I find I sometimes do this by mistake, even standing right next to a wayshrine. When is the gold payment taken? When I confirm or when I port? Does interrupting it at that point save me any gold?

    You hear a "coin" sound when the money gets deducted. You don't pay if you don't actually teleport.

    I pay the fee all the time, sometimes even after I've built up additional fee. Time is money.

    I don't mind paying, but BeamMeUp usually gives me what I want, perhaps with 1 extra port.

    It is pretty subtle, but definitely a slight cha-ching. May have to adjust your sound settings to hear it though, not sure what category it falls under.

    You can cancel it with "Alt" during the animation if you're on PC.

    the sound it makes is the same coin ching it makes when you purchase an item from an NPC vendor

    beam me up does help save a ton of gold though lol (since ive used it ive saved almost 500k gold on porting)

    the way i usually know it charges you is it happens right when you go to the load screen at the end of the port animation

    Hews Bane traders are so far away, I just eat the port to the next zone Malabal Tor before I got the house.

    I think the volume of the coin sound might be hard to hear if you have the UI settings low.

    When I am treating myself or sleepy. 💤

    I own I think all of medium and small houses so most of the time it's free or a guild mate is where I want to go.

    My load screens are usually 3 -10 secs except intial one to get in game. So I can port to anyone then move on from there.

    P.S
    I don't think wayshrines are the right cost for current gameplay, but we still need more new gold shrinks

    Pretty much any time it puts me closer to where I'm going than any given House I own would. I have more than enough gold to stand to lose a potential 3-5k here and there, maybe more if I'm doing a bunch of surveys back to back.
