Transmute Station in house not working

antmck2011rwb17_ESO
So I bought the transmute station for my house and it doesn't work. I can't use it at all. When I mouse over it - nothing. All the other crafting stations work just fine. Am I missing nothing or is this a bug?

Your station is probably not placed right. Try moving it somewhere else.

when placing it, if it's yellow that means you can't interact with it. Move it around or lower it closer to the ground till it turns green. Green means you can interact with it.

Thank you - that was the prob. Can't believe I didn't notice this before.

I wish there were a little more leeway on placing some things. For instance, it seems like I can't place a cooking fire inside of a large, empty fireplace and then interact with it; I must place the cooking fire on the wooden(!) floor in front of the fireplace.

Do you mean the standard cooking station or the Winter Festival Hearthfire? The second one can be placed like that with zero issues while the first one cannot.

There is an additional consideration with a crafting station of where the user stands. You can’t place it where you can’t use it.
The same sort of thing that prevents you from placing chairs close to tables, and still being able to sit.

Honestly they should update the crafting stations, we should be able to build around, place things on top et cetera and still be able to interact with them. It's literally just a ui and an animation. The fact the hitbox becomes impossible to interact with should you place anything "too close" to it just seems like a design flaw and it limits creativity severely.

To expand on Bat's statement above -
    Just a data point:
I had some furniture grade 'dwarven gears' and 'stacks of fabric' that I put on top of an anvil and clothing table respectively for the visual effect.

Neither crafting station worked until I removed the gears and fabric.

I was mildly disappointed that they were affected by the interaction of each, but not really surprised.

I then checked and placed a stack of fabric on the floor under the clothing station and that caused it to fail, too.

I understand, but it's just too bad that the limitations are so unyielding.

    Just saying....

The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

This said, I experienced, that correctly placed items in a house can eventually loose their exact position (I guess due to rounding errors) and be non-functional next time you get there - I have that with some chairs in the snow globe house - picking them up and immediately placing them down again is fixing it - but it is still an annoyance. So if it happens again, eventually try a different location for that station, it might work there without problems.

I guess that is due to the bounding box of that item covering the anvil (the bounding box itself is invisible) - try a different spot on the anvil to activate it, like in the bottom area of it. I put candles on pretty much every station for a nice lighting effect - if I click near the candles, it activates the candle function, but in a different spot not near the candles the station works well.

With putting something under the station - the station has to be on something considered ground level or floor level, if you put it higher than the floor/ground level, it will be outlined yellow or even red, when it intersects with the item in the editor and won't function. Sometimes it helps to first place the station and then put a carpet down - it might or might not work, that is often a bit tricky to get it to work properly.
