I really really wish they'd produce a game events calendar. I know this means they can't easily just plonk events on us - like this I guess - but it would be a polite acknowledgement that some of us like/need to organise our gaming time.

I mean, normally I'd absolutely agree, but I don't think that was a scheduled event. Just a kind of compensation for all the problems in the last days after the new patch.
So, I rather take that without an anouncement, than nothing at all. :)

Unscheduled event doesn't mean spur of the moment.

The Devs and Community Managers knew this was coming for at least however long it took them to set up the announcement article and the event coding to run the event.

We have a calendar. How hard would it be for the Community Managers to add a post saying, "We'll be having an Explorers Event starting tomorrow running through Tuesday?"

How do you expect them to do that when we don't even get dates mentioned in the crown store showcase confirmed until 1 to two days prior to their start?

I mean they can definitely commit to telling us when crown items will be available. But it would be nice to know exact event dates further in advance.

As far as Explorer's event goes we are usually lucky if we get 1 or 2 days notice. This isn't the first time they have launched it before they told us elsewhere

To put it simply the Explorer's Event is always random and spur of the moment. They are never scheduled. But they also have a tendency to pop up after they feel that they have lost some community goodwill.

In other words, it's not that random. It's not like they decided to run the event this morning.

It's an event that people at ZOS decide to run, pick times for it, set up the code to run it, write the Community announcements for, etc.

Even if they don't want to schedule it, there's no reason we couldn't get a day's forewarning once the decisions been made. We shouldn't be finding out because the event's gone Live, with the announcements coming after.

To be quit honest, knowing ZOS. It's entirely possible that they did just to decide to turn it on this morning. Of all the events they operate this is the easiest one for them to launch.

Either way I agree with you on wanting more advanced notice on these things.

Have to agree here. At least give me a day’s warning to shuffle Master Writs over to my main. I guess there’s technically nothing stopping me from doing that after the event starts, but it’s cutting into the time I could be grinding Mirri up, and hypothetically speaking if I was considering rolling up a new character I could have gotten them ready to go last night - if I had known about it.

As-is it turns something that should have been a low-pressure bonus into a scramble.

VaranisArano Thanks for the feedback here. We are going to have a poll up in the next day or so to ask about this. We like to get feedback for future events if surprises like this are wanted.

wolfie1.0. Just checked in on this. Survey resource nodes are not included in the increase.

So whatever your opinion on surprises/forewarning, keep an eye out for that poll, and let ZOS know what you think!

"No matter where your adventures take you, you’ll be celebrated as a seasoned explorer should be" - whether you have actually been there on that character or not...

The event comes across as more of a distraction / compensation without admitting anything about the issues spawned from the latest update. I would assume that the announcement was a copy/paste from the previous one and wasn't vetted to remove that particular line which reflects one of the major concerns of the AWA changes to many players. Hasty or tone deaf?

Considering the recent complaints about log in issues, lags, zone loading times and more, it seems odd to host an event that is usually expected to increase player populations.

But whatever, we all love double loots and xp , makes everything right?

Not the first time an Explorer's Event shows up after major discontent in the player base...
Because yeah.... That's what we want. More XP.

Thanks. I thought it was maybe just my cynicism in overdrive wondering if the timing of this seemed like a rather desperate attempt to entice unhappy customers back after the character implosion fiasco of u33 awa implementation.

If your cynicism is in overdrive then mine is going into orbit.

This event tells me a few things.

First Is that between AwA and the update breaking the group finder and logins, ZOS know they screwed up and don't want to admit it but are biding time while they try to fix things.

Second, they feel they need to earn some goodwill with the community

And lastly they are concerned about the hype around other games that have recently released and want to get players focused back on eso.

This event tends to drop when any of the three conditions are met.

I dunno, and I realise I'm probably going to get flack for this, but I think they're in a 'damned if they do, damned if they don't' situation.

Yes there are things players are upset about at the moment, yes there are things which need attention in multiple areas of the game, but those issues are not going to be fixed overnight.

So what if this is a sweetner? It doesn't do any harm, it doesn't mean they aren't trying to fix the problems people are annoyed about, and it's good for your characters.

I know people are upset and frustrated, and it's fun to have a gripe and swipe on the forums, but deary me, this is a reason for jollification of sorts, is it not?

Sure, go ahead and enjoy it if you can.

    I'd love to as well.

Unfortunately, u33 destroyed character individuality so if I do log in, not only will that be lost but my borg drones will already have assimilated all possible exploration.

It is not a reason good enough to get me to log in if I'm totally honest...... don't need xp, don't need materials and I don't need puny amounts of extra gold!!

What I need is a reason to log in and not be upset by my brand new character being hailed as an all conquering hero!!

It's not necessarily a bad thing to throw an event as an apology.

I also play Warframe, and in apology for the bad rollout of their new Nightwave series, DE will be running an alert with extra rewards and giving Playstation players boosters to make up for their inability to play for a bit. Those Devs were pretty upfront that it was an apology and compensation.

ZOS has even done that in the past, such as when they extended the Anniversary Event because PC/EU was having login queue issues.

I can only guess that ZOS may be reluctant to say "this is an apology for the Update 33 mess" because that creates a certain expectation that we'll get an Explorers Event every time something goes wrong.

This explorer's event is always welcome, but I do still want the auto-complete delves/world bosses/etc for alt characters fixed! Even more so, so this issue won't affect future zone content.

And I do not feel ZOS should give advanced warning about this event, as no advanced warning makes it more of a reward for those who keep playing loyally/daily. As those will find out first. And the surprise-factor is always nice!

Thanks ZOS, despite my criticism I do love the game!

Now, the real test, does it stack with the Green Line buff AND for harvesting maps?

Edit: Testing shows it does not. :)

Regarding nodes, they're double draws, not double drops. It's as if when you harvest a node you are actually harvesting two of the same type of node. The results can look odd, because you don't just get twice as much of everything. Anything that was a guaranteed drop should be doubled (but see below), but anything (excluding special things such as leads) that merely had a chance to drop may or may not be doubled-- if you even get it at all.

That's why the description for this celebration says "increased resource yield" rather than "doubled resource yield."

This increased resource yield has never applied to survey maps during this or other events, but it does combine with passives that can increase your resource yield. However, those are just chances for an increased resource yield, not a 100% guarantee.

So let's say you chop a Maple log. You will get some amount of Rough Maple, as determined by anything that gives a chance for increased yield, but you may or may not get Heartwood, since that only has a chance to drop in the first place.

Then it will be as though you had immediately chopped a second Maple Log. You will get some amount of Rough Maple, but you may or may not get Heartwood.

So the results might look like the Rough Maple had been increased by some factor from 2 to 4 times the normal yield, since the Rough Maple yielded from the first draw may or may not have been doubled by Plentiful Harvest, and the Rough Maple yielded from the second draw also may or may not have been doubled by Plentiful Harvest.

But you might end up with 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 Heartwood, since each draw-- including an additional draw from Plentiful Harvest-- may or may not yield a piece of Heartwood.

That's my understanding of it, anyway. It's kind of confusing. :p
