Seals of Endeavor - what are considered “wild or domestic animals”

I’ve killed bears, wolves, goats, etc. and none count towards today’s total.

According to a post I found in another thread after a handy dandy Google search:
Wild animals are rabbits, squirrels, deadrats, pony guar, nixad, antelope, and more.. basically the animals that do not attack you that can be killed with one light attack.

Domestic is what everyone thinks it is.. cows, sheep and such.

With this group of endeavors you can get the stealing, the killing, and kill by class abilities in one effort by killing the domestic animals that drop stolen mats with a class skill.

Thanks Arunei. So the bears I killed don’t attack me but I can’t kill them with one light attack. Wow. What a strange requirement.

    Thanks again.

I know there are more than 3 endeavors each day, so this is not required. But I hate being asked to kill non-aggressive animals for an endeavor. I generally try not to kill anything in game that does not attack me. :/

Lions, tigers and bears are only considered wild animals in Oz.

I killed some small lizard like creatures, they counted.

You're welcome. Apparently things like bears and wolves count as Beasts. ZOS really could clarify on some of these what counts as X and what doesn't.

Cavies in Blackwood and some others don't count though so who knows. It worries me that none of the entities in ESO appear to have proper flags categorizing them. It was the same with "chitinous creatures" where only a handful of them actually counted towards the endeavour even though you could make chitin stuff from them in other games.

Many "humanoid" enemies don't count either.

As far as I can tell this one includes most, but not all, the animals which don't attack you but can be killed.

I found animals like wolves and bears which attack you without being attacked don't count and mudcrabs, which usually don't attack unless you hit them, first also don't count. Deer, elk, squirrels, rabbits and the smaller echatere do.

I agree that some of the categories could do with more clarification. For example 'humanoid' seems to specifically mean the 10 playable races and therefore excludes a lot of enemies which look humanoid but apparently technically aren't like fabricants, goblins, undead which used to be humanoids etc. (I haven't checked but I assume enemies which lorewise are different but use the same models, like maormer would count.)

I suspect these are internal classifications which the game has used for years and it's never mattered until recently that they're sometimes inconsistent and don't make sense to players because we never saw them.

Same, still doesn't stop me from wasting my ult on them by accident far too often...

Ah. Pressing on Daily brings you over to the details line you posted. Another thing I didn’t know 😩. But using the word “critters” is very ambiguous.

Critters in this game are any of those like 1 hp targets that don't attack us on the map and just run around giving us atmosphere. It's not really a term used for anything else as stuff like wolves are considered beasts.

Rabbits worked fine for today's endeavor. My elf normally hunts a handful of bunnies each day to keep her pantry stocked for making her Braised Bunnies and Greens Ragout recipe. Just likes she catches a few fish each day to support her Solitude Salmon Savoury. Bunnies drop bunny meat and guts. And the guts are used to go lake fishing. No waste.

    Bunny: Emits death squeal.
Bastion: "Have you no regard for life?!?"
Buffy (my elf): "Where do you think your lunch came from? Oh, and you're fired."

Mirri: "You can never have too much of that."
Buffy: "Ahh, much better. You go, girl!"

Fellrunners (those emu-looking things) and Daggerbacks (boar) in Craglorn count. Oddly the wandering camels, which are also non-hostile one-HP wonders, do not.

When you mouse over a potential target, they can be in 3 colours - red, yellow and green. For the purposes of this Endeavor you want to finding those that meet the yellow criteria i.e. they aren't hostile to you, but can still be attacked and won't hit back. Within that is that they don't fit into another category, so crabs are yellow but fit into chitinous and can hit back and so won't count.

Easiest for me was shooting deer - or those walking birds - as I walked along the southern path of N Elsweyr. They're everywhere, and they yield provisioning ingredients. (You also get a lot of butterflies along the way)

Voljar Meadery is nice if you've done the quest because they are unguarded chicken livestock, so you don't get a bounty despite them being owned. Let's just get progress towards kill livestock achievement too.

Went to my usual critter spot - Monkey's Rest in Auridon. That's also where I do "kill with weapon abilities" tasks, since it's easy to just one-shot dozens of monkeys with bow instants.

Another poorly worded endeavor. But now I think about it, bears, wolves, etc. are filed under "beasts" for a different endeavor.

I accidentally killed a spider and it counted.

I went to Khenarthi's and killed rats and mudcrabs. Mudcrabs don't count today, but I always need chitin.
