So people almost always leave them dead in the bigger fights wasting time to revive them will often get your character killed during a dragon/WB or harrowstorm.

Seen companions out everywhere I go in most zones plenty of people are using them as they quest.

Even if they let you use an alt instead of one of the default companions it would likely just be a reskin akin to a polymorph more than likely using one of your alts look that would play the exact same way as one of your existing companions, they would not make it so they could make use of player gear and skills, companions were never intended to fully take the place of actual players.

I found them helpful in dungeons, they give you a bit of extra whatever you want, I never used them for tankingthough, I can imagine an AI isn't very good at that, unless they boost stats to rediculous levels.

Companions are much more impactful than champion points, than gear quality, and even most gear sets. You don't need to optimise your build to play ESO, but if you do choose your champion points and upgrade your gear you are missing out by not having a companion out!

Like cp and gear, your companion needs to be specifically chosen for your build and your needs. There hasn't been much (informed) discussion about companion builds and mechanics since they were on the pts 9 months ago, and I think some players have learned a lot since then... It's interesting that certain companion gear is consistently selling for millions more than others... Some players know what's valuable.

On topic - companions AI will kill them against some mechanics, but they can be built to be very survivable. Most importantly, slot a conditional heal (used at 25% health) first, so it goes off as soon as it's condition is met. You can put HoT's and damage shields (from skills or sets) on companions, or if you want them to be independent build them tanky with lot's of vigorous and bolstered. The tank club showcased the survivability of a companion solo tanking a trial boss, and I believe we could build something better with what we know now.

Other players are far better companions? Uhhh...yeah. That's how it has to be.

My tank Bastian hardly ever dies. He also taunts well so I can get behind the boss. If anything I hope some day Zos allows us to have more than one out at a time.

I disagree, my companion has helped save mine and others ppls life, plus out dps many on daily dungeons .

But i use em for the company anyways.

What I would like is a companion feature that allows me to edit race/appearance features. Then kit them out as desired. My Dunmer Dragonknight would love to have an Argonian templar companion. If only wishes would come true.

Anyone tried to solo White Gold Tower (normal) with a companion?

First boss has a bug where she resets if you are solo during the "prison cell" mechanic. I'm wondering whether having a companion would prevent this bug.
Can dungeon bosses target companions with pin mechanics in general?

I always thought companions were useless (as they can't help with levers or pressure pads), so I never tried the companion system yet. Also I hear they are terribly grindy

For me the main reason to let Bastion tank instead of Mirri is the difference between Drake's Blood and Twilight Mantle. Both heal for 25% of their max health but Drake's Blood gives 20% damage reduction for 8 seconds where Twilight Mantle makes Mirri go invisible for 3 seconds. With quickened traits the damage reduction can be permanent.

I think Mirri is great. She often kills my enemies before I get a chance. It makes doing the daily endeavours more time consuming, but Mirri is as Mirri does. I'm getting used to Bastion but he seems a bit shy. Hopefully a few major battles will loosen him up. Shame I couldn't take him to Cyrodiil.
