The END of ESO being a Roleplaying Game

So it's out

they are really going thru with it and are deleting the history of all
our beloved Characters with the next update.

So ESO is no Roleplaying Game anymore - just an Action game with Tools.

I'm a member since March 2013 and just canceled my sub over this
ridiciulous move to trash my characters history.

I invested many bucks over the years and now I feel really cheated.

ESO is still very much a Role-playing game. There are many ways to RP, and there are roleplayers who do not care about the achievement tracker and actually like the new change. It's effected you and other players that like to use the achievement tracker, and I sympathize that the new system has taken away something you like about the game. But to say ALL rp and ALL rpers, is now ruined, is a little over dramatic... I for one like the new change and I'm a RPer. So...

I myself am not even that much of a rp guy.

But logging in into a character that hasn't set foot in, e.g., any single Aldmeri zone yet, and finding that he has still completed each and every delve and dungeon and killed each and every world boss in all of those zones - that breaks something for me.

    It's called immersion.
CAUTION! Rider breaks for resource nodes!

RP is indeed ruined. When NPCs thank your level 3 toon for stopping the Planemeld, or other such nonsense that hasn't been fixed which is tied to achievements, plus achievement quests you will forever be locked out of on alts, this IS the end of RP. The whole world of Tamriel will have this amnesia plague over who your alts are and what they've done. That destroys immersion. That makes RP impossible in game with the way the world reacts to you. My characters are not simple tools and extensions of me the player, they were their own unique individuals with their own histories in the world. Now they are just avatars of me the player if this goes through. No more RP. No more immersion. I'm not talking about RP with other players, I'm talking about RP in your head as you interact with the world on an alt. That's gone if this goes through.

I might have my own reservations about AwA, but some players take it way too far in my opinion. If individuality of your characters was expressed solely by achievements, fine, but definitely isn’t something gamebreaking for most players. Dropping game because of it seems a bit shortsighted to me.

Read my post above yours. This isn't about account wide titles and achievements. This is about how the game world interacts with your alts. Did you see the mess on PTS over this?

Eso is as much of an rpg as Skyrim was (not much of, eso is probably even more so). No identity was hurt in my case as they weren't tied to achievements I'll never look up anyways after getting, tracking would be more annoying if I'd be even interested in that after the change. Shouting at passing clouds won't help, there's feedback thread present for constructive replies.

Bugs? On a test server? My god. The audacity. How dare they.

Do you honestly think they will have time to untie NPC reactions from all the achievements and switch them over to a quest completion check in two weeks? Do you think they will even want to? Do you think they will give back all those achievement quests that will never be done again on alts? If they do, how many months or years before they fix these bugs given their track record? How about doing internal testing first before releasing to PTS? Hmmm we have some quests that appear only if so and so did this achievement, maybe we should move this to per character so all alts still have access? NOT! Hmmm, NPCs seem to react as if all the dead came back to life in Markath on this level 3 character who never completed the Markath story. Maybe we should fix NPC lines to check against quest completion and not achievements. NOT! Did it occur to them to think of this during internal testing before releasing this rubbish to PTS? NOT!
