For years, I've played The Elder Scrolls series and as a minority I feel overlooked. Left-handed people exist! This marginalized group has been forced to suffer equipping our weapons in an unnatural stance (especially duel wielding. I look like some common plebian with my left hand out forward). Please consider letting us pick with hand we use a shield with and correct stance! Left handed players, help support this endeavor!.

Don't know about the Elder scrolls lore but in real life during that kinda medieval period there was the superstitious nonsense that left handed people were connected to the devil in some way and ran the risk of being accused of witchcraft, so people made a serious effort of hiding that they were left handed back then to prevent discrimination or at worst being used as scapegoat and killed.

In game though its probably just a case of they can't be bothered to do the separate animations for such a small percentage of people in general let alone customers. Something along the lines of 10% of the worlds population being left handed.

Got no problem with them adding left handed animations but doubt they will ever be willing the spend the money on it.

The fact that the amount of left-handed people is that low is really weird.

    OMG, this is true.

I think @bmnoble has a point that Zenimax is not likely ot rework a geat deal of animations, and have that many more animations stored in the game.

I sort-of made one of my characters left-handed. She duel weilds a sword and dagger and I put the dagger in her right hand and the sword in her left, so it looks like that's her main hand. But of course when she's using a staff or doing anything else it revents to right-handed animations. (I accidentally made my Skyrim character left-handed too, because I'm left-handed in real life and was playing on Xbox where you use the shoulder buttons to equip weapons or spells - I always pushed the left one first, so that was her main hand.)

I'd like to have the option to make a character genuinely left-handed, I don't think it's a big deal but it would be a nice customisation choice to have.

But it may not be as easy as it seems. I've never seen a game which gave players the choice (other than the accidental example with Skyrim above, which again didn't apply to anything other than which hand had the best weapon and which I hit with first). There are games with left-handed characters, including games with a mix of left and right handed characters, but it's always fixed for the character.

The one time I know of it changing is the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, when it was released on the Wii. In the Gamecube version Link is left-handed (as he always was up to that point) but for the Wii version they were worried that motion controls for a left-handed character would be confusing for right-handed players - the majority. So they wanted to change it. To do that they mirror-imaged the entire game. Apparently it was easier to flip literally everything - the entire map is backwards - than to change 1 character.

(They looked at offering both options for Skyward Sword but apparently it would take too much time, even doing it while the game was being developed and in a series which famously takes as long as they think it needs instead of releasing on a schedule. so again only offered right-handed controls.)

Weirder fact: the percentage of left-handed people has been going up over time and it's more common in countries which are less likely to encourage right-handedness, suggesting that the percentage of people who are naturally left-handed may be higher than what's seen among adults but many are trained to be right-handed from a very young age.

As a left-handed person I agree, and disagree at the same time. The whole world is build for right-handed people, and while I struggle at times dealing with it, most things I have adapted to. Like using mouse and keyboard, or getting on a bike. Even driving is stupid (if you dont live in the UK that is). So its all a matter of perspective.

You weird left handed people! Get out of ere with your backward penmanship nonsense! *shakes cane*

    XD

But in all seriousness I think that being able to move your weapons to a different hand is a feature I'd like to see. Many games let you choose which hand the weapon goes in, so it's not a horribly out of this world idea. Who knows, maybe I'd even declare one of my characters to be a lefty. LOL

I am lefthanded but if I'm honest it's never bothered me in games.

I do however still remember the number of times teachers "advised" me I would be much better off writing with my right hand, being stubborn I refused and stuck with my prefered hand.

My father in law was however forced to be right handed, I am 60, he was in his 90's when he passed, so I believe the actually number of lefty's in the world is probably still skewed. ☹

The Kerr clan of Scotland during the medieval times were predominately left handed and it is believed they built the spiral staircase in their castle to take advantage of being left handed. Usually though being left handed wasn't accepted.

I'm fairly sure I played a game with a left handed character but danged if I can remember what it was. Might be misremembering?
My grandma when I was an infant used to pin my left arm to my shirt so I would have to eat with my right. That stopped when mom found out she was doing it. Kindergarten teacher whacked my left hand with a ruler if I tried to color or put a puzzle together with my left hand and again that ended abruptly when my mom found out. I'm 60 though and I doubt teachers have done that for quite a while now.
I did work with a guy a few years back that wanted to force his daughter to use her right hand. I told him to research the problems that could cause so he decided not to do it.
Playing the game I use the mouse with my left hand and all my controls are on the number pad so I never have to move my hand to do anything in game, just fingers and thumb. I have a mouse on each side of my keyboard and do some things right handed some left.

I like to tell people humans are still evolving and 100 years from now a left handed world will look back at this right handed world much like we look back on Neanderthals now. It isn't a highly popular opinion among my friends.

I would like to play a left handed character if it were possible but I wouldn't want ZoS to dedicate a lot of time and effort towards making that happen. Other things need to be dealt with first.

Just once I would like a detective show to say well he can't be the serial killer he is lefthanded.

    Okay I'm done now.

and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Last time I tried it, if you put a 1-handed melee weapon in your offhand, and keep your main hand empty, your character deals light attack damage without using any animation at all—your weapon is still sheathed, no swinging or punching.

I used to run a stam warden PvP build like this using Imbued Weapon, and I called it The Brainblaster.

So unless it's been patched, it seems to be the case that we don't see left-handed people in Tamriel because of their unsurpassed psychokinetic abilities.

I want to play a lefty so bad.

I get it, minority and it's easier to make one set of animations instead of two, but it is something that feels like it's been going backwards. Remember when Link from Legend of Zelda used to be left handed? And then they made it with motion controls possible, so now he's a righty.... I'm still not over that.

I was stoked to play Skyrim since it looked like we could put weapons in either hand, but it was more like "punching with a sword in your off hand" than anything else. I played that game for years before I found out there were killcams since they obviously didn't make any animations if you used a 1H weapon in the left hand only.

Ah well, I've mostly gotten over it, but I'd love to have my main be a lefty.

It would literally be just copy-pasting the animations for right-handed with a simple opposite change essentially. It honestly wouldn't be that hard to do.

I am right-handed, but a wrist injury caused me so much pain years ago that I started using my left hand on the mouse at work. It took a long time to be able to get the fine control to click on just what I wanted, but I can now use either hand for the mouse.

I play with a controller though on console. It is designed with most of the commonly used buttons on the right side so even though you use both joysticks it is more work for the right hand.
