I fired Mirri

I have a family member in my house who watches me play sometimes and they'll ask why I have Bastian but not Mirri. My only explanation is that me and my character are already full of attitude, I don't really need to be followed around by another character full of attitude.

    That's probably why Bastian is a better fit for me. His more upbeat personality is kind of like a counterbalance. But I've started to get into the habit of getting snarky with him and his repeated dialogue;

"what do you think you'll make with that?" (Nothing for you... they won't let me)
"They've made their choices!" (Yes Bastian, that wolf sure made his choices)
"You need to keep moving!" (Really? ... Is that what I'm supposed to be doing?)
"Don't you think that was a bit too much" [when using an ulti to keep him alive] (No Bastian, I don't think it was. You're still alive aren't you?)

I'd be in favor of a silent setting.

I like Mirri and have companion chatter turned to full. The one problem I do see is her responses aren't always situation appropriate. Telling me, "I'm still here, thanks for asking" has no real place, especially at full rapport

Whilst I enjoy the voicing, I do understand people would like a toggle and agree it would be nice to have it added in for those that desire it

For example when you kill a butterfly she says

"There has got to be a better source for your alchemy practice."

Which is passive aggressive to me. Meanwhile Bastian says this when you kill little critters.

"Stop it! That's wasteful and cruel."

Hmm. Whereas I see Bastian's comment as much more annoying. Hooray for subjectiveness! :D

(well, really, I find the whole "suicidal butterflies & torchbugs throwing themselves at your cursor" thing to be the most annoying aspect.)

To be honest, how easy it is to accidentally grab those bugs is super annoying. I actually think it's cute that Mirri doesn't want to hurt the cute insects but hates fetcherflies. Maybe because I also like Butterflies, lightning bugs, and Lady bugs but not like Worms. So I get it. There's a cuteness heirarchy, lol.

But honestly the targeting in this game in general makes me annoyed, so I don't really blame their characterization for that haha. I'm able to keep those two aspects separate in my head even though they are related and I get why people like Bastian and Mirri less because of it.

Then again it probably helps my most hated targeting difficulties are in pvp and Vateshran Hollows, so I hated targeting in this game way before I got the companions xD

Another +1 to option to mute companions.

Worst part is that "infrequent" option in setting is not "infrequent" at all, they have maybe one line less per hour compared to "frequent" and that's it.

lol, I don't use Mirri anymore. Bastion is a much better aggro for me, but I hate it when he says "are you just going to stand there?", when I wasn't just standing there. But I do miss his "Hello, what's this?" when a heavy sack is near. They got rid of the best thing he said!

I don't mind Mirri's snarky remarks. The only line that I find wierd is the "I was tired of walking anyway". That one never seems appropriate, especially when I just summoned her.
But hey, that's why we get multiple companions.

For some reason I find Bastian easier to ignore, maybe because I don't feel like he's taking shots at me. Or it could be because he has a soothing voice and I find Mirri's to be grating. But I'd still like to silence them both.

    This.
Bastian's comments are even more lame than Mirri's (and that's a thing), but at least they are less audible.
Being torch bugs free is rather good too.

I never really saw her comments as passive aggressive, I always saw it as her teasing my character in a snarky but familiar way.

I don't see it as friendly teasing at all. To me it comes across as her being irritated that she has been asked to help out and just one complaint after another.

I don't know why but she reminds me a little of Eveli, which is a huge turn off.

sounds like shes based off lydia and her "sworn too carry your burdens"

But Lydia only talked when you selected dialogue with her.
So did Mjoll, Aela and Illia if I remember correctly ... [snip]

Swap to an ice staff and she'll do that wayyyy less.

Yeah the only truly usable one is the ice staff imo since it's got a similar roll dodge tolerance as the sword and shield. There are definitely fights tho where ranged is superior because they take too much damage standing near boss

A thing I noticed with the ice staff is that she doesn't move into melee range to use close range skills. So unless the gapcloser is up she just uses light attacks if no ranged skills are up.

Yes please, give us the option to mute companions. The lowest dialogue frequency option is a joke, they talk every 30 seconds! I think Bastian sounds ok but I can't take it anymore with Mirri, she is just cringe.

    Annoying but hilarious!

I like that they made these characters somewhat testy.

Be nice if we could use our own recordings or have a choice.

Or be more evil "Let's kill them all!" "Yesssss, steal it! I dare you! Pock Pock Pock" - and you get rapport!

Imagine if MIrri started singing? Or rapping?

    IT COULD BE WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been wondering for a long time why he doesn't let me know about heavy sacks anymore. I'll drag him back and forth right over the top of one, and he doesn't say anything until I loot it. If that was an intentional change, they should change it back 'cause it was real nice.

I like both companions and only get annoyed by a few of their respective lines, and I either tune those out or have a snarky comeback in my head. I mostly use Bastian because he's my main character's headcanon wingman, so I focus on the things I like about him (his idealism, his supportive and encouraging nature, the occasional actually insightful philosophizing, the pent-up rage he unleashes when we're fighting some random scrub) and don't put too much stock in the less enjoyable things (the cringy battle catchphrases, the dad joke puns, yes I'm totally standing still by choice and no I'm not going to eat that gross dungeon bug I just accidentally shot). I also ask him to go somewhere else when I feel like doing crime, so we get along just fine in that regard.

Mirri's passive-aggressive ploys for attention actively irritate me, so I guess that's a strike against her. (I wonder if she realizes that it actually makes her less agreeable when she whines that I'm not validating her enough?) But again, I like her personality as a whole, so I don't mind using her on an alt character who doesn't have Bastian unlocked.

I don't use Mirri anymore, because of her annoying attitude and play style. I use Bastion as a healer every once in a while when I solo a dungeon for stuff I need. I must say, Bastion dies very little and taunts the boss giving me time to recover resources.

I think the saving grace there is that while her first inclination is to minimize the bad things her race has done, which is a fairly understandable defensive maneuver, she immediately recognizes and acknowledges that the problem was a lot bigger than that and it's not really something that's excusable. So she catches herself and doesn't just fall back on the excuse that it was just the Dres and the Telvanni.

Of course, your Argonian is completely justified in finding the whole comment distasteful, but I can at least see a silver lining to it.
