Do you think we can expect the return of the Breton Darien Gautier In High Isles - maybe he will be reborn with amnesia .. Or he just simply dead forever .

    If he ever returns, Meridia is most likely going to be the main villain of that chapter/DLC.

    Doubt it. She messed with his memories but he's still her champion.

    If Darien returns, it’ll be along the lines of, “Meridia dismissed me. No explanations, so here I am.”

    I think they'd be more likely to play up his amnesia. You meet him and he'll greet you like he doesn't know you but you'll feel familar if you've met him before. You can confront him about it but he'll say you must have him mistaken for someone else if you have met him, if not quest will proceed as normal. As you progress the quest line he'll forget other things but still know he's there for a purpose. And you'll help him unlock his memory, either with you in the lines of the quest only or other adventures if you have them. Meridia will get mad but since your both still serving her interests, she'll not do anything to you. She will however cast away Darrien from being her champion. You'll be appropriately sad for him but it will also be bittersweet as now he can live a more relaxed life as a regular person. He'll give you his sword and some leveled loot. If you comeback after the storyline is over, you can talk to him at the inn where he'll be flirting with some girl and sadly reminiscent as an additonal dialogue option.

    That's my guess.

    Very dismissive of you, considering he was the only npc who got decent enough explanation to be out of timeline and the fact she was trying to replace him for years now.

    And honesty not at least namedrop the most notable breton, even tho it's
    breton-looking daedra
    , would be a crime in this new chapter. Just sayin.

    I sure hope so! It would be strange to have a Breton chapter without him. I'd love to see the Merida antagonist storyline too but I think we'll have to wait longer for that since this chapter is supposed to be more politics focused (which I'm also very happy about).

    Woah! Hold your horses and temper! By the moons, peoples’ tempers and heartstrings are a bit fragile in this thread :D

    This one wants Darien to return as well. This one just doesn’t have much faith in the script writing to make sense of his return.

    @spartaxoxo rationale would be preferred, but Sammy just wants Darien to deliver on his promise of kegs of ale at the tavern.

    Or, if he returns as The Villain, this one wants to see his dungeon/final fighting place full of kegs and food.

    No temper whatsoever, just pointing out that Darien's creators are very passionate about him and I believe that they'll find a way to make his return meaningful even with "play in any order" situation <3 Each year since Summerset we had at least one mention/hint at what is happening on the other side so suspense is definitely building up.

    I missed those - can you elaborate? (Use spoiler tags if necessary)

    I sort of hope he doesn't, and not because I don't like the character but because it would weaken his very dramatic story arc from Summerset. It would be like Boromir turning up at the battle of the Pelennor Fields and be like " hey guys, miss me? Turns out I wasn't dead after all!"

    Elsweyr, Southern - quest "J'saad's Stone", note and context;
    Greymoor - chat with Gabrielle during Antiquities tutorial has a namedrop + Meridia being literally absent when her followers are sacrificed to get out vampire souls from Molag Bal;
    Blackwood - random encounter with Ylahizu the Magnificent, who can show you a vision of the Golden Knight's animus hovering somewhere, not very pleasant.

    I don't think family categories really work here since "Momridia" only refers to him by name while speaking to us and even using "it" one time. The fact that both times he died in game he returned and regained his corporeal from in the Rooms suggests that he is indeed a daedra.

    The above image was shared by the official ESO twitter account. Note the brown-haired figure in heavy Breton armor in the mid-left. Now take note of the blonde figure on the far left in Mages Guild robes. Darien Gautier and Gabrielle Benele. I don't think ZOS has forgotten. I'd imagine that Gabrielle will make an appearance in High Isle. Perhaps Darien will get a name drop?

    Darien, with due respect, should stay where he is right now. The last time we saw him looked kinda like a death scene for me, so it would feel pretty cheap to ''return'' him simply because he is a Breton. What we need is characters from the Daggerfall story line to come back and not just the noble and her servant.

    Incorrect. By her own words Meridia inserts him where she wants to push events in needed direction so no, it doesn't have to be a daedric plot. Neither was two main base game zone storylines he was a big part of back in the days.
    If devs want to bring him back they would and "any order" won't stop them like it was with Veya's part in Daedric War Arc. Npc was renamed and kept the cowl up the entire time.

    Marking Summerset spoilers just cuz.
    The thing about that is that ZOS pretty much immediately took back any sense of closure we got in the Crystal Tower by giving us the book that revealed that Darien wasn't actually dead. And since there wasn't anything we could do about going after our not-dead friend, we've been at ZOS' mercy to follow up on that tease and the teases they've been throwing out for going on four years now.

    It's my firm belief that we will see more of Darien's story at some point, since if ZOS wanted that story to end in the Crystal Tower they wouldn't have immediately gone "nope not really" after his apparent death. It's just a matter of when and what form that'll take. And while I will take any opportunity to angst about the prospects for Ilsabet's man coming back, I feel like a Breton-themed story that will probably involve some of our Breton and Breton-adjacent friends who may also be invested in Darien's fate would be a pretty good time for that follow-up to come around.

    With all that said, I do wholeheartedly agree with you about getting more of our Breton pals on the scene for more than just cameos.
