There are addons that can hide even more of the default HUD like taking out the compass bar or removing the loot display in the corner.

    Which HUD is this?

(I use addons, but not for UI. I've no idea what HUD you're talking about.)

I was wondering the same thing.

Even more importantly, why are we concerned about the effect of some addons on the screen of other players?

Depends on the addon. Using something that makes the hud a bit bigger made me happy. I think it was AUI maybe.

I'm not a fan of Bandit's UI curved resource bars (one of its many settings) for this very reason. But some people do like it. I like to have as little clutter as possible on my screen.

This does not mean "console > pc." Exactly the opposite. On PC, you're also free to not use it.

So far as the default UI goes, I'm not the biggest fan of it. I think it doesn't utilise the screen real estate as well as it could or should (I use 4k with 150% scaling) from UI or UX design perspective. So I use Perfect Pixel to increase my inventory, journal, etc. display. I can also move or hide various parts of my UI. You don't have that freedom on console.

Edited to add: Additional note, on PC you can use a gamepad and play using the console/gamepad interface. Yet more options.

As well as removing bits of the UI addons can be used to move/resize it so it's not so obtrusive. I haven't removed anything from the HUD (I have hidden dungeon map icons and some quest markers and muted some NPCs) but I've used Azurah to move bits of the UI further out to the edges and make them smaller. The biggest change is shrinking the notification and announcement text and putting it just above the chat box. I still see them, but they're not in the way of what I'm doing.

I'm also still using Azurah's option to colour your targets name by their reaction to you, because I find that less annoying than the base game option of giving them glowing outlines.

I do agree that some addons can look messy or out of place and a lot on screen together can look a mess, but it's up to each person which ones they use (including using none at all) so I don't see it as a problem. I always choose addons which blend in with the base game or are invisible.

I'm not on my computer and don't have a screenshot already uploaded (I'll add one later if I remember) but I'm using about 14 addons and when I'm in combat you'll only see 3-4 of them (Votan's Minimap, Azurah, S'rendarr and the Endeavour Tracker). The rest are either invisible or only affect menus.

Properly, you should capitalize this sentence. <--- just kidding!

One of the problems I have with ESO's UI, especially on the consoles, is that it looks too "modern". I felt the same about Skyrim's UI.

There is an addon out there that changes the UI to the Oblivion one. It has not been updated in a couple years, so I have not tried it recently. It is probably a lot of work to maintain such a beast.

    Update to my previous post:

Here's an example screenshot of me fighting with 18 addons running:

And here's a comparable one with just the base game UI:

I agree, but mostly when it comes to menus/inventory (I'm on PC). Also, the icons for items in the inventory or bank are too small, scrolling through so much text gets annoying. I much prefer the normal grid inventories where you can see at first glance what you have.

TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE. I do play on PC but just ignore all the addons. Watching a raid tutorial is painful honestly with how much clutter there is.
