In this questline you have to coose one of the 3 other companions to die so you get the power to defeat Molag Bal.
Who did you choose and why and are there consequenties for the rest of the game i allways chose Varen not for what he has done but because sai sahan and Lyris are young and in love (i think)
Later on in the game i do quests with Sai Sahan and Lyris , when i choose one of those , would it have consquenties for the rest of the story/game and will i meet Varen again ?

You should probably put a spoiler warning in the topic title. There's been a lot of new players starting ESO recently and they may not all have gotten through the main story yet.

I remember seeing a poll on this a while ago and Varen was by far the most popular choice.

I picked him as well, for a variety of reasons. Firstly he's more responsible for the whole mess than either Sai or Lyris. Sure he was mislead but he should have been more careful. Secondly it just doesn't seem like he has much to live for. I have no doubt Sai or Lyris would die for him if necessary, but they seemed more reluctant whereas Varen was resigned to doing this. Of course it was written so there's no obvious right or wrong answer and I think it's supposed to be a difficult choice, but it seemed like the logical decision to me.

I've heard that if you picked Sai or Lyris they will mention it when they come back into the story, but it's literally a one-line comment and has no major impact on the overall storyline. I don't know of any differences if you pick Varen, of course Sai and Lyris won't mention being sacrificed but I only know of one appearance by Varen outside the main story (at the end of Orsinium) and I think it's the same for everyone.

There are not lasting consequences for your choice, aside from which item you get at the end of the quest.

    (agree on the spoiler warning)

i personally usually sacrifice varen because of several reasons:
    • doesnt give you the full story throughout the harborage quests until the end
    • more or less the cause of all the problems (this is why i hate eveli in the dagon arc)
there are some unique dialog choices with other storylines depending on who you sacrifice
if you sacrifice sai sahan you get additional dialog options in the elsweyr storylines (since sai sahan comes back for that)
if you sacrifice lyris, you get similar additional dialog options in the skyrim storylines (since she comes back for that)

and another note, i hate eveli in the dagon arc because she is frankly an idiot, she goes searching for a book in black drake villa, grabs one that "looks interesting" and later in the blackwood story gives it to one of the ambitions which caused some other allies to die, then further caused us problems at the end of the fargrave arc), its stuff like this which is why i want to kill half of the NPCs we interact with

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (fully filled out with current game), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

I've chosen different sacrifices on different characters, but I usually go with Varen for the reasons others have mentioned.

I could never stomach choosing Lyris, because she doesn't seem to understand the choice. Abnur specifically says the sacrifice's soul is destroyed, with no hope for an afterlife, and Lyris is all "To Sovngarde I go!" Of course, it turns out that Abnur was dead wrong about this, given that...

(spoilers for Orsinium, Dragonhold, and Dark Heart of Skyrim)
Varen's ghost appears to you at the end of the Orsinium main quest, and of course Lyris and Sai are major players in the Elsweyr and Skyrim DLC.

I would've picked any random character if not because Sai and Lyris already show up on future DLC's (at least in the cinematics), so now it feels like it's non-canon choice to pick either Sai or Lyris.
Either way, neither the difficulty of the story quests, the voice acting or the animations alone are enough to get me fully immersed in the story to actually care (I probably would if the story missions had a tougher difficulty, defeating molag bal was as frightening to me as defeating a generic delve boss, the final boss of fungal grotto I was way harder and scarier).

Don’t worry if you choose Varen… everyone else comes back from the dead - and I am guessing he’ll be the Companion back for High Isle! ;)

I always choose Sai Sahan because I can't stand him. But I'm in the middle of that story now on my new alt and may choose Lyris this time because I don't care much for her, either.
