Booted from server then 'character is locked' and can't login - happened in the middle of a BG

I got 'Booted from server' in the middle of a BG that I was dominating. Then when I try to log back into character (even after the BG is clearly over), I get 'Error 326: character is locked'
Anyone shed any light on this?
Obviously I've raised a ticket on this, but it just seems absolutely unbelievable to me that this could happen
